IMG_3266

Date: Friday 25 August, kick off: 7pm
Venue: The Lamex stadium
Head2Heads: 3-2 Man united, 1-1.

Our under 23’s are in action again tomorrow evening, as Wayne Burnett’s side go in search of their first points of the PL2 season, with a home game against Manchester United in Stevenage. Ricky Sbragia’s side are the visitors for our first game at the stadium of this campaign. Burnett’s side come in to this game on the back of a bitterly disappointing 3-2 defeat to West Ham earlier in the week, but they have the chance to make amends in front of a fairly big Spurs crowd. When both these teams met last season, the two games were incredibly closely thought affairs. And I’m expecting more of the same when Spurs go toe to toe with the Red Devil’s on Friday evening. Sbragia’s side have started the season well, with a 1-0 victory over Leicester and a 1-1 draw with Swansea on Monday. Scott Mctominay, former Brentford forward Joshua Bohui and centre half Axel Tuanzebe are all standout players, if involved. As always I will be in attendance for tomorrows game, and shall be providing an in depth match report, here’s hoping for our first win of the campaign. COYS

Team news: I’m purely guessing when I put new signing Paulo Gazzaniga in my predicted starting 11, I just wouldn’t be surprised to see the 25 year old get a half or so, so as to build up his match fitness. I’ve no idea whether centre half Christian Maghoma, Shayon Harrison or Luke Amos will return from injury. However, I’d be surprised to see the injured George Marsh or Nick Tsaroulla feature. It will be intriguing to see whether goalkeeper Luke O’Reily (on trial) will feature on the bench again.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Gazzaniga, Eyoma, Maghoma, Tanganga, Brown, Duncan, Skipp, Shashoua, Pritchard (C), Edwards, Sterling.

My score prediction: 2-1 to Spurs.

One to watch: Young united forward and former Brentford academy player, Joshua Bohui.

Wayne Burnett’s development side play their first home game of the PL2 season later today when they host London rivals West Ham at the training centre (kick off:12pm). After a positive 2-2 draw with Luton town in the Checkatrade trophy in midweek, I’m expecting Burnett to make a few alterations to that side for tomorrows game. This could see Luke Amos and Shayon Harrison return from injury, whilst it could also mean game time for Georgiou and Carter-Vickers considering its at the training centre. It will be a stern test for the lads as they come up against Terry Westley’s side which includes players such as skilful Norwegian forward Martin Samuelsen and promising striker Toni Martinez. Though I’m expecting a tough game for the youngsters in what will be an interesting match, I’m optimistic for our chances of registering our first win of the season. Both 18 year olds Japhet Tanganga and Jack Roles have been linked to loans with league 2 club Exeter, it will be interesting to see if either feature tomorrow. As always, I will be in attendance for tomorrows game and will be providing an in depth match report. COYS

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Whiteman, Eyoma, Maghoma, Carter-Vickers, Bennetts, Skipp, Amos(C), Shashoua, Harrison, Georgiou, Sterling.

My score prediction: 3-1 to Spurs.

One to watch: The hammers young forward and former Valencia player, Toni Martinez.

IMG_3203

Date: Saturday 19 August, kick off: 11:30am
Venue: Belvoir drive training complex
Head2Heads: 1-1, 2-0 Spurs, 3-1 Leicester, 1-1.

Our under 18’s play their second league game of the season on Saturday, when Scott Parker’s side travel to Leicester’s Belvoir drive training ground. Parker’s side face the foxes on the back of an impressive opening day victory (4-0) over Norwich last Saturday. Leicester also started their season with a win (2-1) away to Southampton. We beat Trevor Peake’s side 2-0 in the reserve fixture last season, and Scott Parker will be keen to replicate a similar result in tomorrow mornings tough encounter. I will be making the trip to the midlands for tomorrow mornings match, which will be my first time watching the under 18’s this season, and as always I will be providing an in depth match report. I’m hoping to see the gaffers son (Maurizio Pochettino) in action tomorrow. COYS

In other youth related news, 18 year old midfielder Jack Roles has been linked with a loan move to league 2 side Exeter City, this rumour was posted on an Exeter City fan forum. Roles is an incredibly talented midfielder who enjoyed a sensational 2016/17 campaign, it would be a fascinating loan for Roles were it to go ahead, we shall see. Exeter have a good record of developing young players at the club, for which the director of football is Spurs legend Steve Perryman.

My predicted lineup: Freeman, Lyons-Foster, Dinzeyi, Omolabi, Lock, Bowden, P.Maghoma, Patterson, A.Shashoua, Markanday, Griffiths.

My score prediction: 3-1 to Spurs.

“We’ve watched them two or three times. I watched them against Cambridge in pre-season and had them covered at Sunderland the other day, so we’ll know how they play. I know Wayne Burnett very well, Justin Cochrane also – I played with Justin – so it’ll be a good game.” (Luton manager – Nathan Jones)

Date: Tuesday 15 August, kick off: 7:45pm
Referee: Craig Hicks
Live: Follow @SpursOfficial Twitter feed for live updates.

There’s little time for Wayne Burnetts development squad to rest following their season opener away to Sunderland on Friday night, a Spurs under 21 side will make history tomorrow. When they become the first ever Spurs side to compete in this seasons Checkatrade trophy, with Spurs starting one of three group games with the visit of Luton towns Kenilworth road stadium. Burnett who has already spoken of his desire for Spurs to win the competition, must field a side that includes six players who were under the age of 21 on the 30th June 2017. Though it will be a youthful Spurs side, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a player over the age of 21 feature, possibly even a surprise first teamer, (Winks?). The last time the hatters faced Spurs’ senior side was back in the old first division in 1992, at Kenilworth road. Tuesday nights game will be very different, and I really feel that this competition will be very important for the Spurs youngsters over the coming season, it gives them an invaluable opportunity to come up against football league sides. Whilst Luton towns striker Danny Hylton will be the one to watch, it would also be interesting to see young midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson feature. Bakinson was linked with us a couple of seasons ago, it’ll also be interesting to see how strong Luton boss Nathan Jones goes against our side, Luton had people covering our PL2 game up in county Durham on Friday night. I will be reporting on the game, and as always I will be providing an in depth match report. COYS

Team news: The more experienced duo of striker Shayon Harrison and midfielder Luke Amos will miss the match through injury. Though the starting eleven could include a couple of more experienced players than usual. With centre half Cameron Carter-Vickers and winger Anthony Georgiou the most likely candidates.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Whiteman, Eyoma, Maghoma, (c) Carter-Vickers, Bennetts, Pritchard, Duncan, Shashoua, Edwards, Georgiou, Sterling.

My predicted scoreline: 3-2 to Spurs.

One to watch: The hatters top striker in league 2 last season with 21 goals, striker Danny Hylton could play his first game of the season after returning from injury.

The new premier league season is upon us, Spurs play their first game of the new season away to newly promoted Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. As Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to start the new season where they left off at the end of our last excellent campaign, which saw us finish in second place. Spurs fans need no reminding of the last time we met the magpies, the final day of the 2015/16 season was one of the most infamous days in Spurs’ recent history. Nailed on to finish in second place above arch rivals Arsenal, we were stunned by the already relegated Magpies losing 5-1. Need I explain anymore, as Spurs go in search of revenge with them needing no added motivation ahead of tomorrows season opener, up in the north east. After an eventful week which included a surprising interview involving Danny Rose, transfer rumours and the likes are irrelevant come Sunday afternoon. Pochettino’s side face an important and tough season opener against the toon army, but despite injury worries he’ll undoubtedly be confident that we can start the season off with three points. I personally feel as if we’ll start the season in the same way we left the last with, our attacking flair and formidable front line hopefully powering us to victory. COYS

The opposition: The magpies play their first game in the premier league since their relegation in 2016. Rafael Benitez’s side which isn’t massively altered from the side that won the championship in 2016/17, will be a tough first game in front of an intimidating and raucous crowd. Their main goal-threat Dwight Gayle who was their top scorer last season could start up top, but potentially the biggest threat could come from pacy and tricky Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu down the left wing.

Team news: Kieran Trippier is out inured, so Pochettino has a bit of a dilemma at right back. Does he play the experienced and versatile Dier or Sissoko, or does he give talented 20 year old right back Kyle Walker-Peters his first taste of premier league football. Whoever he decides to chose, will have to deal with the lightning quick pace of former Chelsea man Christian Atsu down the left flank. Danny Rose and Erik Lamela remain sidelined through injury, whilst Nkoudou misses out with a foot injury picked up during pre season. Though there is good news regarding Son and Wanyma, who are both in contention to make the match day squad.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lloris (C), Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.

My predicted scoreline: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Alli, Kane and Eriksen.

One to watch: Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, a fine midfielder with a great vision for a pass.

Our under 18’s kick off their under 18 league campaign on Saturday lunchtime, with new boss Scott Parker and his players preparing for the visit of Norwich at hotspur way. Parker who hung up his playing boots at the end of last season, takes his first step into coaching with this exciting new role at Spurs. Parker’s side which includes 16 new first year scholars for the coming season, faces the young canaries in the first game of their under 18 league campaign. This new look under 18 side has some really talented players in its ranks which you can read about in my recent article: https://superhotspur.com/2017/07/18/a-preview-of-spurs-new-academy-intake-for-the-201718-season/
Along with the noted Adam Idah this talented canaries team also includes former Spurs youth Anis Mehmeti who plays as a winger. Sure to be a challenging opening day opposition, it will be intriguing to see how Parker’s lads get on. I won’t be reporting on tomorrows game (kick off: 12pm) as I will be reporting on our under 23’s encounter with Sunderland this evening. However, Spurs fans can follow the game via updates provided on the official Spurs twitter account. I’ve done a team prediction which is by all accounts a wild guess, whilst I’d expect second year scholars Jon Dinzeyi and Tashan Oakley-Boothe to play tomorrow, it’s impossible to know until the team sheet for this evenings under 23 game is announced. COYS

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Freeman, Hinds, Statham, Dinzeyi, Lock, Maghoma, (C)Oakley-Boothe, Clark, Patterson, Pochettino, Griffiths.

One to watch: Norwich forward and Irish youth international Adam Idah, Idah is a player who I’ve watched play on a couple of occasions for Ireland’s under 17 side over the past few seasons. A pacy and skilful forward, he will provide our defence with a real goal threat, a really exciting prospect and a recent addition to the canaries from Irish club College Corinthians AFC.

“I’m buzzing at the moment, I’m looking forward to the start of the season a lot! All the boys are ready for it. We did well in France and now we’re very excited to start. We’ll be doing everything we can to get our first win on Friday.” (Shilow Tracey)

IMG_3161.JPG

Our under 23’s play their first competitive game of the season on Friday night. When Wayne Burnett’s side travel to County Durham to face Sunderland under 23’s in what is their first PL2 game of the season. The game which is taking place at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare ground, will be a game that I am pleased to announce that I will be reporting on. Fridays game comes at a good time for Wayne Burnett’s side, they’ve enjoyed a successful pre season which saw them crowned winners of the annual European under 21 tournament in France. Along with the cup success, they also recorded a highly impressive victory over league two side Cambridge United at the U’s home ground. Elliot Dickman’s side will be a tough opening day opposition for Spurs, players such as Rees Greenwood, Lynden Gooch, and Joel Asoro all potential players Burnett’s side could come up against. We enjoyed two fiercely competitive games against the black cats last season, a brace from Shilow Tracey secured a 2-2 draw up in County Durham. Before the reverse fixture saw us win 1-0 at the Lamex stadium in a hard fought match, Kazaiah Sterling got the winner that day. The town where the game will be taking place (Hetton Le Hole) has a rich footballing history, with it being the birthplace of both former Spurs man Ralph Coates, and legendary former Liverpool manager Bob Paisley. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the lads get on against Sunderland tomorrow, I will be writing an in depth match report of the game. COYS

Team news: 18 year olds George Marsh and Nick Tsaroulla haven’t been involved in any of the official pre season games with Burnett’s side (presumably through injury) so I wouldn’t expect them to be involved in tomorrow evenings game. It’s been over two weeks since forward Cy Goddard (20) was pictured training with Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos, and I am still none the wiser as to whether he has departed the lilywhites for the J league club, I would be surprised to see him involved against Sunderland. Kyle Walker-Peters is expected to be involved in Pochettino’s senior squad against Newcastle on Sunday so I doubt he will be involved, another player who could travel to Newcastle is winger Anthony Georgiou. In addition goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman will also likely travel to Newcastle with the senior squad as the number three goalkeeper. With the under 18’s playing their first game of the season against Norwich on Saturday, I’d expect players such as Oliver Skipp, Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Tariq Hinds to stay behind for that game.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Austin, Eyoma, Maghoma, Tanganga, Bennetts, (C)Amos, Pritchard, Tracey, Miller, Edwards, Harrison.

My score prediction: 2-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Edwards and Harrison.

One to watch: Sunderland’s 18 year old forward and Swedish under 21 international who is one of Sunderland’s brightest youth prospects. Maja who has already featured for Sunderland’s senior team, joined the north east club from Swedish side Brommapojkarna back in 2015. The striker who scored six goals for Sunderland’s development squad last season, was really impressive when I saw him in action against Spurs at the Lamex stadium last term.

With little more then a week before Spurs kick off the 2017/18 season away to Newcastle United, there’s no better final pre season game then the one that will be taking place tomorrow. When Pochettino’s Spurs side host Italian Serie A holders and champions league finalists Juventus at the national stadium. Saturday evenings game will be the last match that Spurs will play before the season begins, with the Spurs players and fans alike hoping for a good result to get them going ahead of next Sunday’s season opener. When this glamour tie was announced last month it had certainly whet the appetite of Spurs fans, with the prospect of facing Italian giants Juventus a great way to round off our pre season campaign. It also provides Spurs fans with the opportunity to watch some of the finest players in the game, with Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala and Gianluigi Buffon just some of the world class players the Italian club have on their books. Whilst new signing (elegant winger) Fernando Bernadeschi will be sure to test our wing backs. I’m also hoping to get to see young Juventus and Italian youth international Moise Kean in action. The 17 year old forward is one of the biggest prospects in Italian football. It would be great for us to get a good result against Juventus tomorrow, but I’m just looking forward to seeing how we play against this phenomenal team and potential champions league opposition. The premier league seasons just a little over a week away, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how we play in our final pre season game. COYS

Team news: Erik Lamela, Son and Danny Rose will all miss out through injury, though Frenchman Moussa Sissoko who missed Spurs’ tour of the USA with a virus, is expected to return to action tomorrow, whilst Victor Wanyama will return after missing the last game with a knee injury. Another player who won’t be featuring tomorrow is young midfielder Josh Onomah who has today been signed on a season long loan by championship side Aston Villa. It will be interesting to see which youngsters Pochettino selects for the game with our squad already quiet thin this season, I’d expect Pochettino to give a fair few of our academy starlets game time against Juventus. The one most Spurs fans will be excited about seeing is young Marcus Edwards (18) who recently signed a new contract with the lilywhites. The dazzling forward missed out on our tour to the USA due to his involvement in England under 19’s successful Euro campaign over the summer. I’m also hoping that Kyle Walker-Peters will get a good run out at right back tomorrow, ahead of what I’m hoping will be a breakthrough season for the 20 year old. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised to see wingers Samuel Shashoua and Will Miller be a part of tomorrows match day squad.

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Wimmer, Trippier, Winks, Dembele, Davies, Alli, Eriksen, Janssen.

My score prediction: 2-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Janssen and Kane.

One to watch: The incredible Paulo Dybala, with his mesmeric skill, balance and goal scoring ability. The forward is a rising star within the game, the Argentinian international was a star of Juventus champions league campaign last season.

Spurs play their final game of their USA tour later tonight as Pochettino’s side go head to head with familiar opposition, Premier league side Manchester City. The game which takes place in Nashville Tennessee (kick off-11pm) will bring to an end a tour for Spurs, which has seen them record a 4-2 victory over PSG and a 3-2 loss to Roma. It’s our last game which will excite Spurs fans more than previous two, with this evenings game seeing Spurs go up against Pep Guardiola’s Man City side who have been very active in this summers transfer window, with the addition of former Spurs man Kyle Walker one of many new players to make the move to Manchester. Tonight’s match will provide Pochettino’s team with a great pre season test against a side who they’ll be coming up against in the league campaign over the next season. After the undeserved defeat to Roma in the last game, Pochettino will likely rotate his side for tonight’s match, and there’s a couple of players who I’m really hoping to see on the team sheet. Academy player Anthony Georgiou made a really positive debut against Roma in midweek, the energy and persistence he showed down the left wing should hopefully warrant him with a start against Man City. Midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe who has already featured as a substitute in both previous Spurs games has also impressed, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start. Whilst this game will provide a real challenge for Pochettino’s young side, I’m sure his players will be relishing the opportunity to go up against one of the most talented sides in Europe. COYS

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Whiteman, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Wimmer, Trippier, Dembele, Oakley-Boothe, Davies, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

My score prediction: 2-2 courtesy of goals from Kane and Alli.

One to watch: Kyle Walker was a Spurs player less than a month ago, the talented right back needs no introducing ahead of us facing him just a few weeks after his £50 million pound transfer to the sky blues.

Spurs versus AS Roma: (match preview)

Spurs versus AS Roma: (match preview)

IMG_3063.JPG

Spurs play the second game of their US tour on Wednesday morning, in a game involving last years Serie A runners up AS Roma, the game takes place at the Red Bull Arena In New Jersey. Mauricio Pochettino’s side started their pre season in style with a 4-2 victory over PSG in Orlando on Sunday. Now Pochettino’s side will go head to head with some of Serie A’s finest players, Radja Nainggolan, Eden Dzeko and Kostas Manolas are just some of the top players that I Lupi (the wolves) have at their disposal. The wide rotation throughout our last game will likely take place again, and I’m hoping that it will see a couple more of the youngsters make their senior debuts, and whilst it may only be a friendly I am confident that Spurs will put in a good showing against the Italian side. 17 year old midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe put in a fine performance against PSG and could well feature again, I’m also hoping to see other academy players feature in what will be such an important game in their development. I’m also hoping to see Harry Winks get a good run out in the midfield. The game which takes place in the early hours of Wednesday morning (1am) will be shown live on premier sports. I will be providing a match report on tonight’s game, which will be yet another intriguing pre season encounter. COYS

My predicted team: (4-2-3-1) Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Georgiou, Wanyama, Winks, Onomah, Alli, Nkoudou, Janssen.

My score prediction: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Dele Alli, Kane and Onomah.

One to watch: Roma’s versatile midfielder and Belgium international Radja Nainggolan.
