Spurs u21’s 1-2 Norwich u21’s: (match report)

Spurs u21’s 1-2 Norwich u21’s (Match report)

image.jpeg

Our under 21’s will be disappointed that they couldn’t have got something out of this evenings match at the lane against a well set up and physically challenging Norwich side, as the canaries ran out two-one winners on the night. Spurs had a golden opportunity four minutes in as Sonupe’s shot was spilt for the nimble footed Will Miller to latch on to the stray ball, off balance the youngster couldn’t look down in time and his effort was hit well over the cross bar from close range. Norwich broke the deadlock a minute later after Lewis received a fine pass and the young canaries forward tucked his finish around the helpless McDermott to give the canaries the lead, 1-0 to Norwich. Norwich dictated the flow of the game in the preceding 20 minutes, and on 26 minutes Norwich almost doubled their lead as Seal was through on goal in the area as Christian Maghoma was forced into making a crucial intervention in the box to poke the ball away from danger. However just over 10 minutes afterwards Norwich doubled their lead, Grant deliciously curled the ball beyond McDermott in to the bottom corner of the net from the resulting free kick, 2-0 Norwich.

The second half began slowly with both sides battling for possession, there were long periods in play without there being any real chances, although the young Lillywhites did enjoy fine periods of play through the skill and pace of Edwards. Norwich almost put the game to bed on 77 minutes after Seal was found via a through ball and the forward was desperately unlucky with his effort, as his shot powered off the right post. Shortly afterwards the young starlet Kyle Walker-Peters was sent of for Spurs contradictory to his fine performance the fullback received his second yellow after a strong tackle resulted in his dismissal. McDermott made a string of fine saves in the following minutes, as the talented Northern Irish man managed to keep 10 man Spurs to just the two goals conceded. The talented Marcus Edwards had created much excitement amongst the fans in the second half and the wonder kid helped Spurs grab a late goal back as he embarked on a weaving run all the way in to the Norwich box, and the England under 17 internationals shot was blocked in to the path of Miller who volleyed home with an excellent finish, Spurs 1-2!

There was to be no late equaliser in this one as it finished Norwich two Spurs one on the evening, in a game that the Spurs players should be proud of. Despite the scoreline the lads played a fine game of football against a technically good Norwich side, it will have a positive effect on the players in the long run as they played at the lane In front of a big crowd. Our lads were missing a number of regular under 21 players as they’d traveled to Dortmund with the senior side. However the numerous under 18 selections impressed on the night, and none more so than highly sought after Marcus Edwards who exhibited his dazzling skills and flare in the second half. Ugo will be happy with the performance from the lads under such circumstances as at the end of the day it’s about progress not points, and this evenings match will be highly positive for each players development. Tom Glover has starred for our under 21’s throughout their current campaign this season, and his talent has got many a Spurs fan highly excited over the young Australian prospect. The club have also been evidently pleased with Glovers rapid progression this season, as Tom has been present with the first team in training throughout the season. Furthermore, the Australian youth international has also been included in the first team squad as a number three on many an occasion this season. Tom joined our academy on a full time basis in the summer of 2014, and the Australian has Impressed in every youth level that he has played in, most notably the under 21’s, where this season he has been considered by many as the teams number one choice in between the sticks. The 18 year old stands at a towering six foot, four inches. In addition the intimidating goalkeeper Glover possesses lighting fast reflexes, as well as exhibiting fantastic composure in play.

I have seen Glover play for our under 18’s and under 21’s on numerous occasions and I have been extremely impressed with what I have seen from the youngster, in fact I believe his goalkeeping resembles our current captain Hugo Lloris in the sense that he shares many attributes with the French star. For example Glover shares the rapid and sharp reactions of Lloris as well as the Frenchman’s superb reading of the game. Our under 21’s played Liverpool earlier in the season at the Amex stadium where Glover made a string of astonishing saves most notably one akin to the famous Gordan Banks save against Pele. On this occasion the ball seemed to be hitting the back of the net after being powerfully headed down by the Liverpool forward, but Glover astounded the fans in the stadium by somehow being able to get down and make the save in what was a truly exceptional piece of goalkeeping. Furthermore the sharpness and incredible focus in Glovers game has been converted by the youngster to make him a penalty saving specialist, with him saving numerous penalties in the 2014/15 season for the under 18’s.

Under the guidance of Spurs goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and the influence of Hugo Lloris, this huge prospect could become the Spurs number one in the future as well as a star for the Soceroos, remember the name!

Spurs u21’s 1-1 Southampton u21’s:

Our under 21’s drew one all at St Mary’s against a fine Southampton side earlier this evening. As Ugo Ehiogu bolstered our starting 11 with the inclusion of Nabil Bentaleb,Joshua Onomah,Luke McGee and Harry Winks. However a draw was the fair result with both sides having a fair share of opportunities, we impressed on several fronts, our defence looked far more comfortable than in recent outings as well as a cluster of impressive individual performances,so their are plenty of positives to take from this evenings draw. Southamptons young starlet Jake Hesketh scored a most glorious of goals, as he curled a finessed effort past a helpless Luke McGee to give the saints the lead. However our persistence and midfield prowess shone through as we equalised in the 76th minute courtesy of a fine run from Sonupe who’s cross rebounded out to Nabil Bentaleb who fired home from inside the box, 1-1! The Algerian internationals effort will go down as a Will Miller goal, after it clipped Miller just before it hit the back of the net. 1-1 it finished on the south coast tonight. If you would like to watch highlights of the game do check out  the Southampton YouTube page or the Spurs website.

Tottenham u21’s 0- Liverpool u21’s 2.

.Our under 21 side played Liverpool u21’s earlier tonight on a cool winters evening in Chester. And it was the reds who took an early lead, a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, a whipped shot from Ryan Kent deceived Tom glover as the ball slid through Glover ‘s legs at the near post, with those in the box anticipating a cross it came as an unfortunate surprise to Tom.
However the rest of the first half was dull with no clear cut chances, with the exception of a surging run from townsend on the right wing and a neat pass across to Will Miller who spun and shot off balance seeing his effort fly over the bar.

The second didn’t start well either, 56 minutes in and Sheyi Ojo
Put a low ball in to the box and Jerome tapped home to put Liverpool 2 up. And fortunes didn’t prove at all as The game progressed, we lacked creativity and didn’t have the strength in midfield to mount an attacking threat against an experienced Liverpool side. Former Spurs man Kevin Stewart was sent of late on but it didn’t make a difference we simply couldn’t break Liverpool down, and are barren form of late continues, although we fielded a significantly younger side to Liverpool’s. The game finished 2-0 to Liverpool, here’s hoping our youngsters can get a decent run of results together in the upcoming u21 games.

Elsewhere Spurs loanee Dominic Ball played the last fifteen minutes of Rangers 2-0 victory over Morton in the Scottish championship.
