Date: Friday 23rd September 19:00pm
Live: On Southampton’s official YouTube channel

Our under 23 side return to action this evening as they face Southampton in the PL2 at St Mary’s, Ugo Ehiogu’s side will be looking to make amends for their woeful display against Liverpool on Monday night where they lost 6-2. The young Lillywhites face a talented Southampton side that have started season well, picking up ten points from five games, as they sit in second place in the league table. Ehiogu’s side are certainly capable of defeating Southampton this evening at a fairly busy St Mary’s stadium however, it will be a difficult game with quite a few key players missing through injury, but regardless of the side that is fielded it will provide the players with another great experience which will help their development in the game. Along with talented striker Olufela Olomola, Southampton’s talented midfielder Josh Sims is also one to watch.

My predicted lineup: Glover, Walker-Peters, Maghoma, Walkes, Muscatt, Stylianides, Owens, Tracey, Pritchard, Edwards, Loft.

One to watch: Southamptons talented striker Olufela Olomola who has scored fourgoals in the PL2 this season.

Our under 23’s side return to action this evening as they face Liverpool at the Lamex stadium in a PL2 encounter. Ugo Ehiogu’s side will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Friday but it will be a difficult task against a talented Liverpool under 23′ side. Tonight’s team news will be interesting as it could give us some indication as to which youngsters will be involved against Gillingham in the league cup on Wednesday night. I reckon Shayon Harrison, Anton Walkes and Kyle Walker-Peters will all be involved in the squad for Wednesdays game. It would be good to see talented under 18 midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe feature for the under 23’s again this evening a week after making his debut against Chelsea, Oakley-Boothe was absent from the under 18’s match against Norwich on Saturday. Another talented player who may feature this evening is second year scholar Samuel Shashoua who also made his debut against Chelsea last Friday. It will be another good experience in front of a fairly big crowd at the Lamex stadium as Ehiogu’s talented side get to test themselves against Liverpools talented development squad which includes hot prospects such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cameron Brannagan, as well as senior player Danny Ings who may well feature this evening.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Glover, Stylianides, Maghoma, Ogilvie, Georgiou, Owens, Pritchard, Tracey, Shashoua, Goddard, Loft.

One to watch: 24 year old striker Danny Ings, who has been involved in all of Liverpools under 23 games in the PL2 so far this season.

Yesterday our under 23’s side were defeated 3-1 by Chelsea under 23’s at Stamford bridge in the PL2 in a game in which the hosts quality showed despite a good effort from the young Lillywhites. For the vast majority of the first half the game was pretty much level pegging, with Spurs doing an excellent defensive job in containing the blues who were playing a possession based game. Tom Glover was forced into action on 37 minutes after Christie Davies hit a low range shot from the edge of the box which the alert Glover dealt with well as he got down to make a fine save. Ten minutes in to the second half Chelsea broke the deadlock after being awarded a penalty following Maghoma bringing down Quintero in the box, with Jay Da Silva converting from the spot to give the blues the lead. Six minutes later Chelsea doubled their lead through Christie Davies who tapped home from close range following a good save from Glover after Kyle Scott hit a powerful effort from close range which Glover parried into the feet of Christie Davies who tapped home.

Chelsea put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute after right back Fikayo Tomori got the blues third goal of the game. Following a smart back heel from Mason Mount inside the box Tomori tucked the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 3-0 to Chelsea. Deep in stoppage time Spurs got a goal back through striker Shayon Harrison who scored a penalty, following Edwards being clipped in the area by Dasilva . Harrison hit a powerful low effort from the spot which nestled in the bottom right hand corner of the net, the final score Spurs u23’s 1-3 Chelsea u23’s. Despite the scoreline there were plenty of positives to take from the game, and some good individual performance from a younger than usual side. Chelsea’s defence was top class and our youngsters found it hard to break them down. I thought Tom Glover was our best player, the Australian goalkeeper made some excellent saves throughout the game. In addition Ryan Loft was extremely impressive when he came on in the second half, the striker who was our top scorer for the under 18’s last season was unlucky not to score after a good solo effort. Loft was fast, hard working and strong and he has a bright future at Spurs. 16 year old Tashan Oakley-Boothe made an impressive debut for the under 23’s when he came on in the second half also the skilful Samuel Shashoua had an impressive debut for the under 23’s at the bridge. Up next for Ehiogu’s side is Liverpool at the Lamex stadium on Monday the 19th of September.

A fantastic deadline day for spurs:

Yesterday saw our club sign three players in a thrilling transfer deadline day which included a club record fee for the signing of Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle united for a fee of £30 million pounds. We also finally secured the signing of Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou as well as the signing of Spain under 21 goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a seasons long loan from Espanyol. Daniel Levy, Mauricio Pochettino and our scouting network have done a brilliant job in this window as they have recruited the types of players that we needed. At the start of the window it was evident that we needed to sign a striker, at least one midfielder and a pacey forward and the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy have all recruited these players and in doing so have made it possible for us to have the depth and the talent to potentially have an ever greater season than the last. In addition yesterday saw two of our talented youngsters go out on loan as Luke McGee and Nathan Oduwa both joined league one side Peterborough on loan until January.

Transfers in:
– Victor Wanyama from Southampton

Spurs under 23’s defeat Reading 4-1 in Premier league 2 match:

marc

This afternoon our under 23 side defeated Reading 4-1 at Hogwood park as they got their first victory of the Premier league 2 season, in a game in which Ugo Ehiogu’s side were highly impressive throughout. The young Lillywhites took the lead shortly after the half hour mark through 17 year old Marcus Edwards, after the forward received a pass from Oduwa on the edge of the box before turning away from his marker and firing an accurate shot into the top corner of the net. Shortly after the interval Edwards scored his second of the game, after the skillful forward cut in from the right before hitting the back of the net from 20 yards with a fine left footed strike. A minute later we got our third goal of the game through attacking midfielder Will Miller who rifled the ball past Jonathan Bond and into the top corner with a first time strike, after the forward was found by the resulting cross from Oduwa.
