Spur return to action on Saturday afternoon when they face Burnley, in an important league fixture at Turf Moor. After a two week international break Mauricio Pochettino’s’ Lillywhites continue their quest for a top four finish, and with our team sitting in second place and playing some brilliant football, Pochettino is on course to overachieve with Spurs for a second consecutive season. However, this afternoons opposition will provide one of the toughest away games of the season, the clarets have only lost three games at home in the league this season, and despite their struggles away from home their still in a very good position to secure their premier league status for another season. Highly structured and hard to break down, Sean Dyche has Burnley very well set up. I’m expecting a tight game and one in which the home side will do all they can to look for a draw, frustrating our attacking side throughout. Whilst Andre Gray is the clarets main goal threat, danger will also come from out wide through Robbie Brady and George Boyd.

Team news: Today’s match comes too soon for the injured trio of Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela. Whilst striker Vincent Janssen is an injury doubt with a chest infection.

My predicted lineup: Lloris (C),Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dier, Davies, Wanyama, Dembele, Walker, Dele, Eriksen, Son.

My score prediction: 1-0 to Spurs courtesy of a goal from Jan Vertonghen.

One to watch: Burnley’s pacy forward Andre Gray who has been linked with Spurs. Gray has eight league goals this season.

Spurs 2-1 Southampton: (match report)

Spurs 2-1 Southampton: (match report)

Mauricio Pochettino’s spurs side ensured that they’ll go into the two week international break on a high, as the Lillywhites recorded an important 2-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday afternoon. An attacking first half performance saw Spurs go 2-0 up at half time, however the visitors fought back in the second half, getting a goal back early on, but Spurs done enough to see off the south coast club and record precious victory.

IMG_2573.JPG

A good chance presented itself inside four minutes, when Christian Eriksen slipped through a delightful pass to Son, who surging forward down the right wing forced Forster into making a fine stop, as the tall England goalkeeper spread himself well to thwart Son’s effort. Spurs’ attacking intensity was rewarded 10 minutes later, when Dembele passed the ball to Eriksen, the midfielder unleashed a powerful low effort from 20 yards out, that flew into the far corner of the net, 1-0 to Spurs. Spurs came close again on 23 minutes, when Toby Alderweireld got on the end of Eriksen’s corner, the defender met the ball at the near post, forcing a wonderful save out of Forster. The saints came close to equalising on two occasions on the stroke of the half hour mark, firstly through Manolo Gabbiadini’s effort from Tadic’s resulting cross. The Italians well timed run resulting in a fine volleyed effort which smashed against the side netting. Then, moments later Nathan Redmond played the ball across to Tadic inside the area, his effort from close range blazed over Lloris’ crossbar, it should have been 1-1! Spurs turned on the pressure in the following minutes and Spurs midfielder Dele Alli was brought down unlawfully by Steven Davis inside the penalty area, with Andre Marriner immediately pointing to the spot, Alli’s resulting spot kick was despatched cooly past Forster and into the back of the net, 2-0 to Spurs!

IMG_2572.JPG

Spurs continued to pressurise Claude Puels’ side, with Christian Eriksen flashing an effort narrowly wide of the post on 41 minutes, Spurs lead comfortably at the break. Seven minutes into the second half, the Saints pulled a goal back through James Ward-Prowse, Bertand’s whipped cross was miss kicked by Alderweireld as the ball came to the young midfielder, as he drilled the ball home past Lloris’ inside post. The visitors made sure a long second half would follow for Spurs, Pochettino’s side lacked the intensity and shape that they had exhibited in the first half, but still they done enough to ensure a vital three points for the Lillywhites, at the Lane. In what was a fairly dull second half, the final score Spurs 2-1 Southampton. COYS

Additional notes: It was a tale of two halves today, Spurs were superb throughout the first period but the saints fought back and made the second half difficult for Spurs. Christian Eriksen had a really good game today, he was constantly on the move, creating various opportunities throughout the game, the Dane also scored an excellent goal in the first half. My man of the match Toby Alderweireld, was superb at the back along with his compatriot Jan Vertonghen. 20 year old Dele Alli had yet another tremendous game, his silky skills and hard work off the ball were equally impressive, he also showed great confidence to take and score his penalty, his 14th league goal of the season. Also a special mention to Vincent Janssen, who had a really good cameo when coming on in the second half. The Dutchman done his job very well, he demonstrated great hold up play and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.

My man of the match: Toby Alderweireld. Apart from his slight error that lead to the Southampton’s goal, the Belgian centre half was defensively impeccable, he marshalled the defence so well, and his anticipation of danger from the opposition, was top draw.

Spurs (3-4-2-1): Lloris (c), Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Walker (Trippier 78), Wanyama, Dembele, Davies, Dele (Janssen 86), Eriksen, Son (Winks 75). Substitutes (not used): Vorm, Wimmer, Onomah, Sissoko.

Saints (4-2-3-1): Forster, Cédric, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand, Romeu, Davis (c), Ward-Prowse, Tadić (Boufal 69), Redmond (Rodriguez 80), Gabbiadini (Long 32). Substitutes (not used): Hassen, Caceres, Hojbjerg, McQueen.

Goals: Spurs – Eriksen 14, Dele 33 (pen); Saints – Ward-Prowse 52.

Yellow cards: Spurs – Dier, Walker, Wanyama; Saints – Redmond, Boufal, Romeu.

Referee: Andre Marriner.

Attendance: 31,697.

Spurs return to league action on Sunday when they host Southampton at the Lane, the Lillywhites will have to overcome the Saints without star man Harry Kane who is out injured. The visit of Mauricio Pochettino’s old club comes just before a two week international break, and Pochettino’s side will be wanting to go into that break on the back of an important victory that consolidates their place in the top 4. The big dilemma surrounds our centre forward Harry Kane. Who replaces Spurs’ talisman upfront? Where will the goals come from? The answer isn’t as complex as it sounds, Kane has been in sensational goalscoring form prior to picking up his injury last Sunday against Millwall. Son Heung-Min’s hat trick against Millwall will give him great confidence going into Sunday’s match, he may be inconsistent at times but the South Korean forward is on his day a brilliant player and along with Dele Alli behind him, both can chip in with the goals to defeat the saints. We can really exploit the defensive vulnerabilities of the visitors when we face them at the Lane, their without the excellent Virgil Van Dijk, and the centre back pairing of Maya Yoshida and Jack Stephens have shipped in 11 goals in their last five matches. Manolo Gabbiadini will be the saints biggest goal threat, but the creativity and pace of Nathan Redmond and Jay Rodriguez will also be a danger. Following Chelsea’s victory over Stoke on Saturday, the title race seems to be all but over, but the fight for the top 4 is very much alive, and a win today would be another step closer to securing champions league football for a second consecutive season. I’m predicting another big performance from Son, when we face Southampton and I feel as if he’ll be the difference between a point and three points, I’m anticipating a close game against Claude Puel’s side, but I am very confident nonetheless. COYS

My predicted lineup: Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Winks, Walker, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Son.

My predicted score: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Son x2 and Dele Alli.
One to watch: Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini, since joining the Saints in January, Gabbiadini has gone on to score six goals in four matches for the south coast club.

Spurs 6-0 Millwall: (match report)

Spurs 6-0 Millwall: (match report)

“We were very focused from the first moment and that was our plan. The job is done and we’re in the semi-final at Wembley.”

IMG_2546.JPG

Spurs have booked their place in to the semi finals of the FA cup, after Mauricio Pochettino’s side eased past league one outfit Millwall, to record a 6-0 victory in what was their last ever cup game at White Hart Lane. The gulf in class between the two sides was evident from the offing, after a bright early spell Spurs took control the game, but Spurs’ were dealt a huge blow when talisman Harry Kane limped off injured after just seven minutes. It took Spurs 31 minutes to find the breakthrough, they were just lacking that vital spark, which duly arrived just past the half hour mark, when Dele Alli nodded the ball into the path of Christian Eriksen. Who from just inside the box, fired a powerful effort at goal which flew into the far corner of the net, 1-0 to Spurs. Spurs’ class was beginning to shine through, and just moments later the Lillywhites almost doubled their lead, when Victory Wanyama headed Erisken’s corner onto the crossbar. Pochettino’s side were beginning to run the lions ragged and minutes before the interval, the Lillywhites doubled their advantage through Son Heung-Min. The winger cut inside his man from the right with aplomb, before curling a wonderful effort into the top corner of the net, a strike to saviour!

IMG_2547.JPG

The second half was only nine minutes old when Spurs struck again through Son, Spurs were dominating every aspect of the game as they went from strength to strength. Right back Kieran Trippier sent over a delightful lofted 40 yard pass to Son, and the South Korean timed his effort to perfection, thumping it past King and into the back of the net, cheers of ‘Tottenham are on their way to Wembley’ were being heard across the terraces. Spurs’ attacking superiority had deflated Millwall and our third of the game effectively ended the contest, we dictated the tempo of the game and played at which ever pace suited us. Eriksen again proved to be the creative spark, when his cross was met in the box boy by Dele Alli on 72 minutes, the England midfielder making no mistake as he hammered home Spurs’ fourth of the game. Pochettino’s side were making sure their last ever cup tie at the Lane was one to remember, with their goal scoring rout continuing seven minutes later. It was a moment to remember for the newly introduced Vincent Janssen, as he netted his first goal from open play this season, Son’s low cross was hit first time by Janssen as it nestled into bottom corner of the net. Deep into stoppage time of the second half Son got his rewards for an excellent display, as he netted his hat-trick to put Spurs 6-0 up. After Eriksen found the forward at the far post with a perfectly weighted cross, Son met Eriksen’s cross with a fine volley, as it squirmed under the legs of the unfortunate King, to put the icing on the cake, on a day to remember at the Lane. Into the semifinals Spurs go!⚽️

Additional notes: Mauricio Pochettino’s side eased past Millwall with an assured display, giving the Spurs fans an FA cup semi-final to look forward to. Son Heung-Min was the star of the show with his hat-trick and assist, but the player who was at the source of spurs’ creativity was Christian Eriksen. When coming on for the injured Harry Kane, Eriksen provided a real spark to Spurs’ game, his vision and creativity enabling Spurs’ to go on a goal scoring rout. Eriksen recorded one goal and two assists. The performances of Harry Winks and Ben Davies were also extremely impressive, Winks controlled the midfield with a series of delightfully accurate passes, whilst Davies celebrated signing his new contract in midweek, with a vintage performance at left back. We return to action next Sunday, when we host Southampton in a vital league match at the Lane.

My man of the match: Hat trick hero, Son Heung-min. The South Korean winger put in a brilliant performance he simply overwhelmed the Millwall defence with his trickery and pace, Son netted 3 goals and set up Janssen’s goal.

Spurs (3-4-2-1): Vorm, Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Trippier, Winks, Wanyama (Sissoko 78), Davies, Dele (Janssen 74), Son, Kane (c, Eriksen 10). Substitutes (not used): Lloris, Walker, Wimmer, Onomah.

Millwall (4-4-2): King, Cummings, Cooper, Webster, Craig (c), O’Brien, Thompson (Butcher 46), Williams, Wallace (Ferguson 70), Gregory, Morison (Onyedinma 58). Substitutes (not used): Girling, Hutchinson, Worrall, Romeo.

Goals: Spurs – Eriksen 31, Son 41, 54, 90+2, Dele 72, Janssen 79.

Yellow card: Millwall – Wallace.

Referee: Martin Atkinson.

Attendance: 31,137.

“For us, it’s not just a game against Millwall, it’s the chance to go to the next round and a semi-final at Wembley. That is a massive aim for us, a massive challenge. We respect Millwall and we must try to give our best to win the game.” (Mauricio Pochettino)

img_2364

On Sunday afternoon Spurs will play their final ever cup match at the Lane, and what a tie it is, Spurs versus Millwall in an FA cup quarter final, a London Derby with great incentive for Pochettino’s side in their quest for the prestigious FA cup trophy. Spurs are just touching distance away from a semifinal at Wembley, standing in between them our fellow London club Millwall. Spurs haven’t faced the league 1 side in well over two decades, with the clubs last meeting coming in a league fixture in the 1989/1990 season, Spurs ran out 1-0 winners on that day courtesy of a winner from Gary Lineker. This time round Spurs are the overwhelming favourites, our incredible home form alone puts us in great stead against Neil Harris’s side. The stakes are huge but I’m very confident ahead of today’s 2:00pm kick off, the gulf in class is massive between the two sides, and if Pochettino’s plays all of his key players I can’t see their being any other outcome than a Spurs victory. However, the lions also come in to today’s game in great form, their unbeaten in 17 matches and their victories over Bournemouth, Watford and Leicester en route to the quarter finals, should not be forgotten. Let’s make our last ever cup match at the Lane, end in a memorable victory. The FA cup is in our DNA, and I really fancy our chances of lifting this most famous of trophies in our final season, at our glorious stadium.

Team news: Danny Rose and Erik Lamela remain Tottenham’s only two absentees ahead of today’s quarter final. I’m predicting Pochettino’ to field our strongest eleven against Milwall, we don’t play till next Sunday and I feel as if it would be too risky to rotate the squad ahead of this hugely important cup tie.
My predicted lineup: Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Vertonghen, Walker, Wanyama, Dembele, Davies, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

My score prediction: 4-0 to Spurs courtesy of a hat trick from a Harry Kane, and a goal from Toby Alderweireld.

One to watch: Former Spurs academy graduate, Jordan Archer. The lions goalkeeper faces a battle to stay fit ahead of Sunday’s match, but I’m really hoping he gets to play in front of his former club. Millwall’s top scorer Lee Gregory, is also another player to watch out for.

5 of the most memorable FA cup ties played at the Lane:

IMG_2541.JPG

Tomorrow will see Spurs involved in their last ever FA cup tie at the world famous, White Hart Lane. This grand old stadium has seen some dramatic FA cup ties over the years, below is just a selection of some of those memorable matches that the Lane has hosted.

1. Spurs 13-2 Crewe Alexandra: When Bill Nicholson’s side drew 2-2 to fourth tier Crewe Alexandra in the fourth round of the FA cup, no one could have anticipated what would happen when the two sides met again in the replay at the Lane. Nicholson’s talented side thrashed Crewe an astonishing 13-2, the Lillywhites were 10-1 up at the interval. Their astonishing victory was the highest scoring FA cup match of the 20th century and the Lillywhites biggest victory in their history. The following is an account from a Crewe fan that was at the match: “As we were a footballing team, Spurs were the best team in the country at that time and did the double a year later. On that night they made the great Real Madrid side look second rate. They were unstoppable and it’s fair to say that my work colleague enjoyed it far better than I did.”

2. Spurs 6-0 Birmingham: The year was 1967, the season that Spurs would be crowned winners of the FA cup. En route to their final against rivals Chelsea, Spurs met Birmingham city in a quarter final replay at the Lane. Bill Nicholson’s side put on a phenomenal showing, defeating the blues 6-0, with goals from Alan Gilzean, Jimmy Greaves x2, Frank Saul and a brace from Terry Venables seeing Spurs storm into the semi-finals.

3. Not all of our FA cup ties at the Lane were memorable for the right reasons, a perfect example of this was Spurs fourth round exit at the hands of Man City in a replay in the 2003-04 season. Spurs were in cruise control and lead 3-0 at the break, with victory for David Pleat’s side seeming inevitable. However, Man City done the unthinkable and scored four goals in the second half to beat the Lillywhites 4-3, stunning the White Hart Lane faithful and shattering spurs’ FA cup dreams for another season. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GiUIi9UJpyk

4. Spurs 5-0 Sunderland: Bill Nicholson’s famous double winning side of 1960-61 season went through to the semifinals of the FA cup in scintillating fashion with their 5-0 thumping of Sunderland in a quarter final replay. Over 64,000 fans witnessed a a vintage Spurs display as goals from Les Allen, Terry Dyson x2, Dave Mackay and Bobby Smith saw Spurs march through to the semifinals, in what will surely be remembered as one of Spurs’s most memorable FA cup matches. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=euMldfb4L7k

5. Spurs 4-3 Wycombe: It’s quite fitting that the final match in my list is from this seasons current campaign, Pochettino’s team came from behind twice to get a dramatic 4-3 victory over league two side Wycombe Wanderers at the Lane. It was a game that had every thing, it contained passion and excitement, it was a good old fashioned FA cup tie and one that will live long on in the memory of Spurs supporters. Son’s late winner in stoppage time of the second half sent the Lane into a scene of sheer ecstasy, in a game where Wycombe deserved at least a replay. Here’s hoping tomorrows final cup match at the Lane against Millwall, will be just as memorable! COYS

IMG_2527.JPG

This afternoon Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side take on Everton at the Lane in what is yet another crucial match for the Lillywhites. We’re a team in fine form and our home form has been nothing other than exceptional, but the toffees will provide a tough test today, their beginning to flourish under Ronald Koeman and their unbeaten in their last 9 league matches. And with one of the leagues finest strikers in Romelu Lukaku, Spurs will have to bring their A game for today’s encounter if they are to achieve maximum points. A well structured and defensive side, the blues have talent in numbers and I feel as if today’s match will be won in the midfield with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama up against the talented Morgan Schneiderlin and Idrissa Gueye, Im hoping our midfield prowess will pay off. We faced Koeman’s side on the opening day of this season, that match ended in a 1-1 draw and it emphasises the task were up against today, if we can get an earlier goal or two like we done against Stoke, then I believe we would go on to dominate the game, but the longer the game drags on goalless, the tougher the task becomes. Nonetheless I am confident going into today’s game and I’m predicting Dele Alli to be the difference today, we need to win the match but against today’s opposition it’s easier said then done, but at the Lane we’re almost indestructible. COYS

My predicted lineup: Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Wanyama, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

My predicted scoreline: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Dele Alli x2 and Harry Kane.

One to watch: One of the leagues most inform strikers, Romelu Lukaku. The powerful Belgian centre forward is currently the leagues joint top scorer with Harry Kane on 17 goals.

Pau Lopez: A future successor to Lloris?

Pau Lopez: A future successor to Lloris?

img_2517

Last season, young goalkeeper Pau Lopez was playing in some of the most iconic stadiums in the world, in one of the worlds best leagues. This season, the Spanish youth international has featured in only four matches for Spurs’ development side swapping the likes of the Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabéu for the likes of the Lamex stadium in Stevenage. When Pau Lopez joined Spurs on a season long loan from La Liga side Espanyol on transfer deadline day in the summer, the Spaniards arrival at Hotspur way was met with some confusion from Spurs supporters. With Michel Vorm being an effective deputy to the phenomenal Hugo Lloris, one would question was their really a need to get a goalkeeper in for the current season? However, it was quite clear that Pochettino had not signed Lopez merely for cover in case a goalkeeping injury crisis occurs, but for his huge potential and ability in the nets. The 22 year old goalkeepers breakthrough season at the Catalonian club occurred during the 2015-16 season following the departure of Kiko Casilla. Having joined the Espanyol youth ranks back in 2007 from boyhood club Girona, Pau was a player that Pochettino knew well during his tenure at the Barcelona club. Last seasons campaign for a struggling Espanyol side, saw Pau Lopez record a string of top performances and his overall goalkeeping ability saw him gain the reputation of one of Spain’s hottest goalkeeping prospects. He was duly rewarded with a place in Spain’s provisional Euro 2016 squad, having first watched Lopez play last season for the Pericos, I became aware of the Spaniards tremendous shot stopping ability, his excellent handling of the ball and also his all roundness in between the sticks, in the fact that he has all the raw attributes of an exciting young goalkeeper.

IMG_2518.JPG

Pau reminds me in some ways of compatriot David De Gea in regards to his terrific shot stopping, particularly from close range. Having featured on four occasions so far for the under 23’s side during the current campaign, I have managed to see two of those matches and I was really impressed with the youngsters performance on both ccasions. Lopez was faultless in the two games that I saw him, he made some fine reflex saves, but their was one moment in the game against Sunderland under 23’s when he made a reflex save that left the crowd stunned, it was truly sensational. In addition his handling and anticipation were similarly impressive, his commanding in the air and certainly doesn’t lack in confidence. Lopez is an exciting prospect, he was one of the finest young goalkeepers in Europe last season and I reckon Pochettino’s long term project for Pau, is for him to be the number 1 goalkeeper for the Lillywhites, and I honestly believe that he could go on to replicate the excellence of Lloris in years to come. From what I’ve seen of Lopez at Espanyol and in the Spurs development side, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to go on and be Lloris’ future successor. Spurs have an option to buy Lopez and I’m confident that they we will go ahead and do that in the summer, the Spanish under 21 international is still developing but his shown his class on the La Liga stage, and if for any reason Vorm were to move on in the near future, Lopez would become an efficient back up to Lloris.

On the other hand our youth academy currently has a handful of brilliant young goalkeepers, including Luke McGee, Alfie Whiteman, Tom Glover and Jonathan De Bie to name but a few. I firmly believe that all those players could go onto have successful careers at Spurs, but their not really ready to make that permanent step up to spurs’ senior team, where as Lopez is. In my opinion Lopez is a special young player who I’m confident will go on and have a very good career, and I hope that he enjoys that good career at Spurs, I feel we’d really regret not buying him. I see no reason why he can’t go on and become our number one goalkeeper in the next five years.

IMG_2488.JPG

Spurs put the disappointments of Thursday night behind them, as they thumped Stoke city 4-0 at the Lane earlier today, in what was a game of real quality from the Lillywhites. Pochettino’s side showed great intensity throughout and their control of the game paid off, as Spurs put in a vintage performance. After asserting their authority on the game Spurs attacked with a great degree of intent, and on 14 minutes the Lillywhites took the lead through their talisman, Harry Kane. Alli’s attempted through ball was intercepted by Shawcrosss, with the ball coming out to Kane on the edge of the box and Kane fired the ball low into the far corner of the net, a fine finish. After taking the lead Spurs looked as if they were in cruise control, playing with a panache about their game. However, 10 minutes after taking the lead, Hugo Lloris was forced into making a stunning save. After a cross was whipped in to the box, former Spurs man Peter Crouch got his foot to it, and although he he was offside, the linesman didn’t flag and Lloris was forced into making a world class save with his legs. Moments later Spurs almost doubled their advantage, after Jan Vertonghen’s effort from 12 yards cannoned off of the crossbar. Shortly afterwards Kane curled a delicious long range effort inches wide of Grant’s right post. Spurs continued their attacking onslaught and after Kyle Walker tested Grant with a ferocious strike, Spurs eventually doubled their lead just after the half hour mark through none other than Harry Kane.

IMG_2489.JPG

Eriksen picked out Kane from the resulting corner and the striker met the ball first time on the edge of the box, as he struck a sweet effort which nestled low into the far corner of the net, 2-0 to Spurs. Spurs’ attacking superiority was tearing the potters to shreds and just five minutes later Harry Kane again exposed Stokes vulnerabilities, as he got his hat-trick to put Spurs 3 up. With a free kick from 30 yards out Christian Eriksen laid the ball off to Kane whose low first time effort took a heavy deflection off Peter Crouch, before beating the helpless Lee Grant as it rolled in to the back of the net. Spurs’ high tempo didn’t stop and just before the end of the first period, Dele Alli sent the Lane into a scene of jubilation with Spurs’ fourth of the game. Kane was again at the centre of attention as he powerfully surged down the right wing, before sending a low cross into the path of Alli who tapped home at the far post, his red card in midweek long forgotten. Spurs started the second half just as they had done in the first, but Pochettino’s side were rocked by an injury to Toby Alderweireld just a few minutes in, Spurs reverted to four at the back, and in doing so their style of play was altered.

Spurs’ intensity never wavered however, they didn’t look as dangerous going forward in the second period, for Stoke it was a case of damaged limitations. Kane went close to getting his fourth of the game on 74 minutes, after the England international curled a low effort from the edge of the box, but Grant was alert to the danger as he got down to make a fine save. Spurs saw out the remaining minutes with ease, the final score Spurs 4-0 Stoke, the perfect response from Mauricio Pochettino’s side, a stunning performance sees the lads return to second in the table. COYS

IMG_2490.JPG

Additional note: After todays game finished I noticed that Josh Onomah, Cameron Carter-Vickers and most interestingly of all Marcus Edwards were all training on the pitch it just shows how close Edwards is to the main team.

My man of the match: The outstanding Harry Kane! With three goals and an assist Kane’s influence on the game was immense, he is now the premier leagues joint top scorer with 17 goals.

Player reviews:
– Hugo Lloris: Made an exceptional save in the first half, but apart from that he had a quiet afternoon.
– Kyle Walker: Monumental at right back, a faultless performance from the England international.
– Toby Alderweireld: Prior to coming off injured in the second half, Alderweireld was immense his anticipation was incredible.
– Jan Vertonghen: Very tidy and composed, also an attacking threat.
– Kevin Wimmer: Very comfortable when coming on.
– Ben Davies: Solid throughout.
– Victor Wanyama: Indestructible in the centre of the park.
– Mousa Dembele: A vintage performance from the Belgian, dazzling in the centre of the park, the Stoke midfield stood no chance.
– Harry Winks: Done a good job when coming on, mopped up well and showed really good vision.
– Christian Eriksen: Present throughout the whole game, contributing with two assists.
– Dele Alli: potent throughout his trickery and movement was top draw and he was deserving of his goal.
– Harry Kane: A hat-trick and an assist, a truly magnificent performance!
– Son: N/A (On for such little time).

Spurs 3-0 Fulham: (match report)

Spurs 3-0 Fulham: (match report)

“We needed that win. It’s been a tough week, not the best and we wanted to come here, get the win and progress to the next round. It was a good performance. I thought we were solid all around the pitch and deserved to win.” (Harry Kane)

IMG_2459.JPG

Spurs go marching in to the quarter finals of the FA cup, after Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday afternoon. Spurs shone at a sunlit Craven cottage, winning the game in style and after two straight defeats it was a relief to see a vintage Tottenham Hotspur performance. Harry Kane has a phenomenal goalscoring record against London clubs and his hat trick today, takes his tally to 19 for the season, and it was incredibly refreshing to see Pochettino field such a strong Tottenham lineup. Spurs begun the game with a confidence about their play, their fast attacking play soon having Fulham on the back foot. After Eriksen went close early on, Spurs were relentless and their intensity was rewarded 16 minutes into the game, when Eriksen sent a beautiful low cross in to the box, which Kane tapped home to give Spurs the early lead they had so desperately craved. Ten minutes later Eriksen almost turned scorer when Kane played him through in the box but Eriksen’s effort went high above the crossbar. Spurs flourished and they passed the ball around the field with ease, after Harry Winks had a goal ruled offside Spurs saw the half out with relative ease, with few meaningful attacks from the home side. Our style of play didn’t change in the second half and just six minutes in to the second period, Harry Kane grabbed his second of the game to double Spurs’ advantage. Eriksen was again the provider, the Dane picking out Kane with an excellent cross, and Kane made no mistake as he skilfully tapped the ball home, a perfect strikers finish. Moments later Dele Alli almost got our third, Eriksen so close to getting a hat-trick of assists as his precise cross was met by Alli at the far post. However, Alli was put off by the foot of Odoi, as he headed the ball over the crossbar.

Fulham threatened us with a header from Kevin McDonald on 71 minutes, but our classy performance toppled the championship side after Kane got his hat-trick on 73 minutes to send Spurs into the quarterfinals of this most famous competition. Alli sent Kane racing through on goal after putting in a well measured pass, and Kane made no mistake as he fired the ball home to cap off a memorable afternoon on the banks of the river Thames. The final score Spurs 3-0 Fulham, a delightful result for Spurs as we go into the quarter finals with aplomb. Where we will meet fellow London side Millwall, in what will be our last ever cup match at the Lane. It’s a fantastic draw for Pochettino’s side and we’ll really fancy our chances against the league one club.
