Spurs moved up to third in the table after a dominant 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the lane yesterday. It was a highly impressive performance from Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they recorded a hard fought victory against the black cats. Spurs started the game well and were looking sharp against a Sunderland side desperate for a point after a poor start to the season. After some good half chances early on Spurs went close on 17 minutes through Harry Kane after the striker received a cross inside the area from Son, Kane hit the ball first time from close range but Jordan Pickford pulled off a good reaction save to deny Kane. We continued to cause the Sunderland defence bother in the following minutes and constantly tested goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with numerous goal attempts. However, the highly impressive Son went desperately close to breaking the deadlock six minutes before half time, after the winger cut in from the left before firing a powerful low effort which hit the outside of the left post. Despite our control of the game throughout the first half David Moyes’s side almost stunned Spurs on the stroke of half time after having the best chance of the half, following a pass from Januzaj on the right wing former Spurs player Steven Piennar hit an effort on the edge of the six yard box which seemed destined to nestle in the bottom left hand corner of the net. However, the alert Kyle Walker got across to make an exceptional goal line clearance to keep the score level at the interval.

Our stand out player of the first half, Son continued his excellent display into the second half as the South Korean internationals energy and high work rate troubled the Sunderland defence. Son went close to opening the lead shortly before the hour mark after Moussa Dembele passed to him on the left side of the penalty area, Son tried a powerful effort which hit the side netting. After showing great perseverance throughout the game Harry Kane’s hard work finally paid off in the 59th minute as he broke the deadlock to give Spurs a 1-0 lead. The goal came about after Kyle Walker sent in a promising cross from the right in which Alli headed down in to the direction of Kane and despite contact by Djilobodji the defender couldn’t control the ball as it came to Kane who after controlling the ball calmly despatched the ball in to the bottom right hand corner of the net. After Kane opened the scoring for Spurs it was all one way traffic for the Lillywhites as for the rest of the game they continued to create chance after chance, with the best chance coming to substitute Erik Lamela in the 87th minute. The Argentine went on a surging run down the right wing as he was free to test Pickford from just outside the area he curled an effort in the direction of the bottom left hand corner. However, Pickford made a magnificent diving save to deny Lamela, a couple of minutes later Sunderland were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Adnan Januzaj following a second bookable offence, Spurs comfortably won the game 1-0 to move up to third in the premier league as they bounced back from Wednesdays loss against Monaco.

IMG_1717.JPG

The win was somewhat overshadowed by an injury picked up by Harry Kane in the second half after the striker went over on his ankle after lunging for the ball, it was a worrying sight but hopefully it won’t be as serious as originally feared. Son was undoubtedly our man of the match for a second league game in a row, Son was exceptional throughout as he worked tirelessly down the right wing, his energy and eagerness to get into space was fantastic and I really do believe that Son will flourish for Spurs this season. Goalscorer Harry Kane’s perseverance throughout was imperative as the England international netted a well worked winner, linking up well with Dele Alli for the goal. After his excellent first half goal line clearance Kyle Walker had yet another excellent game at right back and didn’t let anyone past him. It was a great win for Spurs and the lads go again this Wednesday in the EFL cup against Gillingham at the lane.

Spurs kicked off their Champions league campaign with a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Monaco in front of a club record 85,000 strong crowd at Wembley stadium on Tuesday evening. It was a highly disappointing result for the Lillywhites as Monaco frustrated Pochettino’s side from the minute go, the well structured French side were incredibly solid and despite the lads best efforts we just couldn’t find the all important equaliser. We started the game encouragingly in the opening minutes and shortly before 10 minutes we almost took an early through Son, after the South Korean international latched on to a pass inside the box before unleashing a shot which was deflected away on the line by a Moncao defender. However, just six minutes later the Ligue 1 side stunned the Lillywhites by taking the lead through Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese winger went on a darting run before cutting inside Vertonghen and firing the ball past Lloris and into the top left hand corner of the net. Lamela almost made an instant reply for Spurs two minutes later after the Argentine struck a fine effort from the edge of the box which was heading for the bottom left hand corner of the net, though Danijel Subasic denied Lamela with a good save.

IMG_1701.JPG

The crowd were shocked on the half hour mark as Monaco doubled their lead through substitute Thomas Lemar, after the unmarked youngster got on to the rebound in the area following a save from Lloris and the Frenchman fired the ball superbly into the top of the net to double the visitors advantage. Our effort and attacking prowess finally paid off as in stoppage of the first half the Lillywhites got a goal back through Toby Alderweireld. Following the resulting corner from Lamela, Alderweireld rose high to plant a powerful header into the back of the net to give us great hope at the interval. The lads started the second half well and went close to getting level on the 48th minute after Dele Alli hit a testing effort from outside the box but Subasic tipped Alli’s powerful effort over the crossbar. In the minutes that followed the lads just couldn’t get past a stubborn Monaco side and despite everything Spurs threw at them, the French side continually found a way to deny us. Of all the chances Spurs had in the second half their best of all came to Harry Kane in the 79th minute. Following some good work from Janssen, the Dutchman set up Kane who inside the box seemed destined to get the equaliser but Kane powered his shot straight in to the arms of Subasic It was a disappointing end to a historic night, I believe that playing at Wembley affected our performance and style of play. Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle who was on ITV on Thursday spoke of the difficulty that Spurs face in containing their opponents in regards to their high pressing style of play. Despite the result I am still confident that we will adjust to the 90,000 capacity stadium and I also believe that we will top the group. Pochettino’s lads go again on Sunday as they face Sunderland at the Lane.

Yesterday afternoon Spurs defeated Stoke city 4-0 at the Bet365 stadium, defeating Mark Hughes side in scintillating fashion, the Lillywhites had a flawless display and repeated last seasons scoreline against the potters with an equally outstanding performance. The potters had the ball in the back of the net after just five minutes after Marko Arnautovic received a pass from Gianelli Imbula inside the box before firing the ball past Lloris and into the back of the net however, the Austrian international was ruled offside. 15 minutes later Spurs were unfortunate not to be given a penalty after Son was brought down by Geoff Cameron after he clipped Son in the box. On the half hour mark Dele Alli went desperately close to giving Spurs the lead after the 20 year old received the ball inside the box with just the keeper to beat, but Alli dragged the ball agonisingly wide of the post. We were controlling the game and our creativity paid off as Son broke the deadlock shortly before half time. After some great work on the right wing from Eriksen the Dane crossed the ball to the unmarked Son who volleyed home with a smart finish from inside the box to make it 1-0 to Spurs.

Heung Min-Son doubled our lead in the 56th minute following Eriksen again creating the goal after he passed the ball through to Son, who on the edge of the box hit a wonderfully accurate effort which went high in to the back of the net to put the Lillywhites 2-0 up. A mere three minutes later we put the game out of sight after Dele Alli netted our third of the game, following a fantastic move. Kyle Walker went on a surging run down the right wing before setting up Alli, who on the edge of the penalty area tucked the ball into the back of the net to finish off a fine move. A little over ten minutes later the lads wrapped up a tremendous victory with a fourth goal through Harry Kane. Kane received a pass in the in the box from Son before he controlled and slotted home, the final score Spurs 4-0 Stoke. It was a tremendous and truly flawless display from Spurs yesterday, every single player played excellently. Son was undoubtedly the man of the match yesterday, he was highly influential getting two goals and an assist and he’s fantastic performance will do he’s confidence the world of good. Up next for Spurs is Monaco on Wednesday as we start our champions league campaign against the Ligue 1 side. COYS⚽️

Yesterday our under 23’s side were defeated 3-1 by Chelsea under 23’s at Stamford bridge in the PL2 in a game in which the hosts quality showed despite a good effort from the young Lillywhites. For the vast majority of the first half the game was pretty much level pegging, with Spurs doing an excellent defensive job in containing the blues who were playing a possession based game. Tom Glover was forced into action on 37 minutes after Christie Davies hit a low range shot from the edge of the box which the alert Glover dealt with well as he got down to make a fine save. Ten minutes in to the second half Chelsea broke the deadlock after being awarded a penalty following Maghoma bringing down Quintero in the box, with Jay Da Silva converting from the spot to give the blues the lead. Six minutes later Chelsea doubled their lead through Christie Davies who tapped home from close range following a good save from Glover after Kyle Scott hit a powerful effort from close range which Glover parried into the feet of Christie Davies who tapped home.

image.jpeg

Chelsea put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute after right back Fikayo Tomori got the blues third goal of the game. Following a smart back heel from Mason Mount inside the box Tomori tucked the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 3-0 to Chelsea. Deep in stoppage time Spurs got a goal back through striker Shayon Harrison who scored a penalty, following Edwards being clipped in the area by Dasilva . Harrison hit a powerful low effort from the spot which nestled in the bottom right hand corner of the net, the final score Spurs u23’s 1-3 Chelsea u23’s. Despite the scoreline there were plenty of positives to take from the game, and some good individual performance from a younger than usual side. Chelsea’s defence was top class and our youngsters found it hard to break them down. I thought Tom Glover was our best player, the Australian goalkeeper made some excellent saves throughout the game. In addition Ryan Loft was extremely impressive when he came on in the second half, the striker who was our top scorer for the under 18’s last season was unlucky not to score after a good solo effort. Loft was fast, hard working and strong and he has a bright future at Spurs. 16 year old Tashan Oakley-Boothe made an impressive debut for the under 23’s when he came on in the second half also the skilful Samuel Shashoua had an impressive debut for the under 23’s at the bridge. Up next for Ehiogu’s side is Liverpool at the Lamex stadium on Monday the 19th of September.

Yesterday afternoon the Lillywhites fought back to get a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the lane in a match in which we managed to get a well earned point against Jurgen Klopp’s impressive side. It was the Reds who started the brightest and they went incredibly close to taking an early lead in the fifth minute, after Firmino burst in to the box before the forward squared it to fellow country man Philippe Coutinho who unmarked, shot from 10 yards out, but Michel Vorm pulled off a tremendous low save with his leg to deny Liverpool from taking an early lead. Just over 20 minutes later Vorm was again forced into making another top save after Coutinho fired an effort at goal from just out side the area after he chested it and brought it down following Mane’s pass. Coutinho’s effort was saved well by the Dutchman who got down well to deny the forward with a diving save. We were unable to take control of the game in the remaining minutes of the first half and following Kyle Walker’s injury our shape wasn’t the same. on the stroke of half time Liverpool were awarded a penalty kick after Erik Lamela brought down Firmino in the box, James Milner stepped up to despatch his penalty with great precision and put Liverpool one up at the break.

image

Shortly after the start of the second half Liverpool went close to doubling there lead through Cameroonian centre back Joel Matip who was picked out by Coutinho from the resulting corner, before heading an effort that skimmed the top of the crossbar. Just past the hour mark we had a golden chance to equalise after Eric Dier sent in a good cross from the right which found Eriksen inside the area. However, the Dane couldn’t keep his effort down as he hit it over the bar. We finally equalised in the 72nd minute through Danny Rose, after the England international finished of a fantastic attacking move from the Lillywhites, following Eric Dier’s cross into the box Lamela headed the ball back to Rose who fired the ball past Mignolet and into the net. Neither side got a real hold of the game in the remaining minutes, though the Reds came desperately close to snatching a winner in stoppage time through Adam Lallana who was closing in on goal before Alderweireld pulled a world class challenge to ensure we got the point.

Yesterday wasn’t our finest performance and in some ways getting a draw was a bonus from a tough game against Jurgen Klopp’s side. Hopefully we can make a couple of signings before the end of the window to add depth to our squad, and come back from the international break ready to take on Stoke. Michel Vorm had an outstanding game in goal making a couple of world class saves, the Dutchman kept us in the game. Vorm who was officialy voted the man of the match also was a fantastic sweeper keeper through out the game as he came out tostop the incoming danger of Sadio Mane who was through on goal. Victor Wanyama had yet another excellent game in the centre of the park, making some key interceptions and the Kenyan was solid throughout yesterday’s game. In addition Onomah made a positive appearance from the bench in the second half.

Spurs marked their first home game of the season with a deserved 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace as Victor Wanyama scored an 83rd minute winner to give the Lillywhites their first win of the season. Mauricio Pochettino’s side didn’t take long to stamp their authority on the game and they nearly took the lead on 13 minutes, after an unmarked Toby Alderweireld had a good chance to score from the resulting corner. However, the Belgian didn’t connect too well with the ball as his header flew into the arms of Wayne Hennessey. Shortly before the half hour mark Hennessey again denied our lads from taking the lead after the Wales international scrambled Harry Kane’s effort from outside the box before spreading himself well to deny Janssen with an excellent save from the rebound. Kane came desperately close to breaking the deadlock, as deep in additional time of the first half Kane was found just outside the box before firing an effort narrowly wide of Hennessy’s left post.

Ten minutes in to the second Harry Kane again went agonisingly close to putting us ahead after receiving an excellent cross from Eric Dier, Kane who was under pressure from Pape Souaré headed his effort inches wide of the post. We constantly applied pressure to the south London club in the minutes that followed and were presented with a glorious opportunity on 69 minutes, after new singing Vincent Janssen who had impressed throughout, was gifted with a one on one opportunity after being found by Alli from the following cross. Janssen one on one with Hennessey got his angles wrong before side footing a wayward effort wide of the goal. Following his introduction to the game in the second half Alli brought a much needed spark to our game as well as bringing much needed energy to our attack. Almost half the stadium thought the youngster had scored on 79 minutes after Alli hit a first time shot on the edge of the box just over the cross bar, as many Spurs fans wondered if it just wasn’t going to be our day. However, four minutes later we finally took the lead through new signing Victor Wanyama. Erik Lamela’s corner was met by Harry Kane who’s header reached Victor Wanyama who nodded home from just in front of the keeper to send the Spurs fans roaring with delight, the final score Spurs 1-0 Crystal Palace.

image.jpeg

It was a fantastic victory today and it was a game in which we dominated from start to finish, Pochettino will be proud of the lads performance and the determination in which they demonstrated. However, it was evident that we are still getting back to full match sharpness as a team though that should be something that comes to fruition in the coming games. Toby Alderweireld was exceptional in the centre of defence today and was in my opinion our best player, goalscorer Victor Wanyama also had an excellent performance in midfield as well as scoring the all important goal. In addition Kyle Walker had an excellent match at right back, It was a great team performance and one in which the team can build on. The lads have a weeks rest until next Saturday’s fixture against Liverpool and I am confident we will be able to record another victory at White Hart Lane next Saturday lunchtime if we can perform as well as we done today.

This afternoon Spurs put in an exceptional performance in their final pre season match before the start of the season, with Pochettino’s side defeating Italian side Inter Milan 6-1. Spurs took the lead just five minutes in after a penalty was awarded following a foul on Kyle Walker in the penalty area, Harry Kane sent a thumping shot past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to the Lillywhites. However, Roberto Mancini’s side equalised on 24 minutes through Ivan Perisic, after the Croatian was picked out by Banega on the left wing before darting past Walker and firing inside Vorm’s near post to make it one all. Shortly before half time Mauricio Pochettino’s side regained the lead after Erik Lamela scored an absolutely sensational goal. The Argentine was picked out by Kane and with space Lamela curled a wonderful shot into the top hand corner of the net from 25 yards out leaving Handanovic helpless. We started the second half just as well as we had started the first and we were rewarded seven minutes in through Dele Alli who got Spurs’s third of the game. Dele Alli played a quick one two with Janssen in the box before tucking the ball with great precision and pace in to the bottom right hand corner of the net.

A mere five minutes later Harry Kane grabbed his second of the game to make it 4-1 to Spurs, Kane was found by Lamela before shifting the ball onto his right foot from just inside the area before hitting a wonderfully powerful finish which flew in to the back of the net. Janssen got his first goal for Spurs soon after, after the highly impressive Dutchman was played through in the area by Alli who had danced his way past Inter’s defence and a composed Janssen hit an accurate finish to make it five for Spurs. Our final goal of the game came through 19 year old Shayon Harrison who got his first goal for Spurs, after some great hold up play from Janssen the forward passed to Lamela who crossed in to Harrison from right before the youngster tapped home to make it Spurs 6-1 Inter Milan. We couldn’t have asked for a better performance ahead of next weeks opener against Everton our side was simply exceptional in every aspect, every player was extremely impressive. One thing is for certain we will be a better, stronger and more potent side ahead of the upcoming league season. COYS⚽️

Spurs 1-2 Juventus: (match report)

Spurs played their first official pre season match of the season this morning, after they narrowly lost 2-1 to Italian champions Juventus in their first match of the international champions cup in Melbourne. A youthful side, Spurs found it hard to contain the Bianconeri in the opening minutes of the game and the Italian sides class showed after they took the lead in the fifth minute through striker Paulo Dybala. The goal came about after young defender Dominic Ball Lost possession near the half way line with Juventus capitalising on his error as they surged forward through Roberto Pereyra who played through Dybala who expertly slotted home from with in side the box. Dybala almost doubled Juventus lead shortly afterwards after the Argentine latched onto a loose ball before volleying at the Spurs net. However, Michel Vorm denied Dybala with a fine save to thwart the strikers effort. Juventus doubled their lead shortly after Dybala’s chance through defender Medhi Benatia who got on the end of a wonderful first time ball in to the box from Pjanic and the Moroccan expertly despatched his header which looped high over the head of Vorm and in to the back of the net. Spurs had a penalty shout on the half hour mark after youngster Will Miller surged in to the box before being brought down by Benatia, Miller was unfortunate not to have been awarded the penalty.

Juventus had the first real chance of the second half in the 53rd minute after the ball came to Miralem Pjanic in the box however, the Bosnian international lashed the ball high over the bar from close range. Soon afterwards a good chance came the Lillywhites way after Janssen played the ball in to Lamela whose shot from 20 yards out was deflected narrowly wide of the right post. However, it was the substitute Lamela who scored for Spurs in the 67th minute after sprinting into the area the Argentine received the ball at his feet and made no mistake as he expertly tucked the ball in to the bottom right hand corner of the net. The goal had a lot to do with Wanyama’s great reading of the game after the Kenyan expertly won the ball in the middle of the park which in doing so helped create the attack. Star man Lamela almost grabbed an equaliser with less than ten minutes remaining of the game, after Shayon Harrison passed to him in the box, Lamela hit a powerful shot straight at Neto who thwarted the ball away from danger. It was almost a dramatic ending to the game for Spurs as deep in stoppage time younger Shayon Harrison went desperately close to taking the game to penalties after Lamela danced his way through the Juventus defence before playing in the young striker whose low range shot was saved well from the cat like reflexes of Neto who got down to deny Harrison a goal on his senior debut.

The final score was 2-1 to the Italian champions and although it was a pre season friendly the lads should be proud of their performance as an extremely young Spurs side were narrowly denied a draw against top class opposition. The exceptionally talented 17 year old Marcus Edwards was highly impressive when he was introduced in the second half as too were the other youngsters that played with Harrison, Miller and Amos having a fine game. Wanyama was excellent with in the midfield as he provided great steel to Spurs’s game however, my man of the match has got to be Erik Lamela whose impact on the second half was top class, with Lamela scoring as well as being an extremely potent forward throughout the second half, the winger looks in great form ahead of next season. Up next for Pochettino’s side is our final game of the international champions cup which is against Spanish side Atletico Madrid on Friday at 11:00am, i shall provide a preview for that match in the coming days. Our talented young forward Shayon Harrison put spurs ahead on the 82nd minute after the youngster converted from close range after a good run by spurs starlet Marcus Edwards on the right wing helped create the goal. It was Edwards who confirmed our victory three minutes from time after the youngster done well to win back the ball on the byline, Edwards turned away from the nearest defender, before firing the ball high in to the net from an acute angle. It was an impressive victory for spurs with many of the youngsters impressing throughout, the players that I am aware played are as follows: Tom Glover, Kieran Trippier, Victor Wanyama, Ryan Mason, Nacer Chadli, Marcus Edwards, Shayon Harrison and Vincent Janssen. Spurs 2-2 Chelsea: (match report)

Spurs 2-2 Chelsea: (match report)

image.jpeg

Our title hopes were ended in dramatic fashion last night as Spurs drew two all against arch rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It was a game that saw passion, pride and utter emotion from Pochettino’s men as regardless of the result they made each and every Spurs fan so proud of what the club have achieved this season. However, our draw against the blues confirmed that Leicester city were champions of the Barclays premier league. The game included much controversy as tempers boiled throughout and Spurs subsequently received 9 yellow cards, that were all picked up by different players which is the first time that has occurred since the premier leagues inception in 1992, this remarkable statistic indicates how heated and passionate a derby it was. The game started with a great intensity from both sides as both were well set up and looking to pounce on one another’s errors. Danny Rose went close eleven minutes in after the full back let fly from 25 metres out, Rose’s effort flew narrowly wide of the angle. Cesc Fàbregas went the closest for the blues shortly after 25 minutes, after the spaniard shot narrowly wide after receiving a pass on the edge of the box, Fàbregas hit a low effort which went agonisingly wide of the left post.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men took the lead less than ten minutes later with a beautifully worked goal, after Érik Lamela showcased his great vision after the Argentine played through Harry Kane who one on one, calmly jinked past Begović in the Chelsea net before slotting the ball in to the back of the net. Lamela almost scored five minutes later after the winger ran into to the box, Lamela hit a fine effort on goal after receiving a well measured cross from Kyle Walker. However, Gary Cahill made a vital block to deny Lamela from doubling our lead. However, it wasn’t to matter for Spurs as less than five minutes after Lamela’s opportunity Spurs doubled their lead through Son Heung-min. The South Korean international latched on to Eriksen’s through ball before firing the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net. The Lillywhites almost made the perfect start to the second half as on 54 minutes Son came desperately close to getting Spurs’s third, after he curled an effort narrowly wide of the left post from the edge of the box. The blues pulled one back a few minutes later after an unmarked Gary Cahill fired the ball beyond the helpless Lloris, as he saw his effort nestle into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

With less than 15 minutes remaining the newly introduced Ryan Mason almost made the headlines after the 24 year old received a pass just outside the area before side footing an effort towards the centre of the goal, which Begović saved well. Our title hopes dissipated on the 83rd minute through Eden Hazard, after the Belgian who was assisted by Diego Costa, curled a wonderfully accurate effort into the top right hand corner of the net. The Spurs players were visibly devastated at the full time whistle and so too were the fans, some unpleasant skirmishes occurred down the tunnel at the end between the Spurs players and staff and the Chelsea players and staff. However, we must remain upbeat for the Southampton match as we look to round off a magnificent season by finishing in second position. Let’s roar on the players for next weeks match against the saints, so we can show our appreciation for has been one of the best league campaigns in Tottenham Hotspur’s history. COYS⚽️
