A preview of Spurs’ new academy intake for the 2017/18 season:

IMG_3024.JPG

Whilst Spurs’ new first year scholars for the 2017/18 season are yet to be officially announced by the club, quite a few people have a fair idea of who will be included on that list. The following players are the players who are all expected to be announced as first year scholars come the start of the under 18 league campaign, this is just a short preview of each player who will likely be a part of this talented pool of players who I look forward to watching over the coming season.

Joshua Oluwayemi: I saw goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi play once in the under 15 showcase match against Ipswich back in 2016, he impressed me on that occasion with some smart saves. Oluwayemi has also represented England under 15’s at youth level, he will be competing with Jonathan De Bie and Charlie Freeman for the goalkeeping spot, the 16 year old made the bench on one occasion for our under 18’s last season in a game against Aston Villa.

Brooklyn Lyons-Foster: Talented right back Brooklyn Lyons-Foster is highly rated with in the England youth set up, playing for their under 17 side as a 15 year old last season, the fullback who has made one appearance for our under 18’s is the brother of former Spurs youth player and current Bristol City player Kodi Lyons-Foster.

Jubril Okedina: A player who I also saw in the Ipswich showcase game, Okedina is a centre half who I know very little about, the defender has however represented our under 18’s side on one occasion last season.

Maxwell Statham: Son of former Spurs player Brian Statham, the centre half who I saw play as an under 15, was brilliant when I watched him at Portman road he put in a very mature performance.

Oliver Skipp: One of the most talented players within our academy set up, Skipp was an integral part of our under 18 side during last season playing, on 22 occasions for McDermott’s side. The dynamic defensive midfielder who can also operate at centre half is a player who I rate very highly, having watched him play many times over the course of last season it was obvious that the England youth international has something special. He’s like a young Michael Carrick, a tidy and efficient player who’s intelligence of the game is fantastic for a player so young. Skipp, who also made one under 23 appearance last season is already an experienced player at under 18 level and I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to play again for the under 23’s this season. I wrote the following article on Skipp not too long ago: https://superhotspur.com/2017/05/08/oliver-skipp-the-diligent-16-year-old-midfielder-who-has-shone-for-our-under-18s-during-this-season/

Jamie Bowden: Not too dissimilar a player to Skipp, Bowden is another player that reminds me of Carrick, Bowden who has played four times already for our under 18’s has represented England at under 15 level in the past.

Maximus Tainio: The son of former Spurs and Finland midfielder Teemu Tainio, Maximus who is also a defensive midfielder joined Spurs from Finnish side HJK Helsinki earlier in the year.

Paris Maghoma: Another excellent prospect the central midfielder who is the younger brother of under 23 player Christian, is a player who excelled for the under 16’s during last seasons campaign. Similar to Onomah in his style of play, Maghoma performs excellent surging runs from the midfield, in addition he also has an excellent shot and is a free kick specialist. Maghoma most recently represented England’s under 16 side.

Dilan Markanday: Primarily a winger Markanday is a player who I’ve only seen play on one occasion, he possesses good ball control and is a skilful winger.

Elliot Thorpe: Another skilful winger who can also play as an attacking midfielder, Elliot Thorpe represented Wales’ under 17 squad whilst still an under 15, Thorpe is a really talented and skilful player who I look forward to seeing more of this season.

Rayan Clarke: A winger by trade, Clarke played for our under 18 side twice last season picking up an assist in the process. A player with a panache about his game, he reminds me a bit of former Spurs man Nathan Oduwa.

Armando Shashoua: The younger brother of academy ace Samuel, Armando is another highly skilful attacking midfielder who plays in a similar style to his brother. Shashoua who played once for our under 18’s last season, is a player who I am still yet to see in action. The forward has attended England under 15 training camps in the past.

Maurizio Pochettino: The gaffers son will no doubt cause much intrigue amongst Spurs fans, Maurizio who operates as a winger was a player who I saw involved in the Ipswich showcase game a couple of seasons back.

Jeremie Mukendi: Another player who made a sole appearance during last seasons under 18 campaign, Mukendi plays as a winger/forward.

Rodel Richards: The only out and out striker from this group of players, Richards played against Aston Villa under 18’s last season.

Phoenix Patterson: The first time I saw Patterson was in that very same Ipswich game in 2016, on that day he was the man of the match. A skilful and agile winger who wowed the crowd with his fancy footwork and excellent goals, now over a season later this hardworking winger has already accumulated a total of 13 under 18 appearances, scoring one goal and claiming two assists. The older brother of under 16 full back Kane Patterson, Phoenix is eligible to represent Scotland as well as England. I reckon this young winger will flourish in Scott Parkers side over the coming season.

Some former players who’ve moved elsewhere: Just some of our former players of the same age group that have signed scholarships at other clubs. Jordan Mceneff (brother of Aaron) (Arsenal), Kane Thompson Summers (Birmingham), Anis Mehmeti (Norwich), Marcel Elva Fontaine (Reading).

Remembering that 95 yard goal from Paul Robinson: (memory lane)

Remembering that 95 yard goal from Paul Robinson: (memory lane)

IMG_3019

Former Spurs goalkeeper and England international Paul Robinson today announced his retirement from the game of football. The Yorkshireman who played for Spurs between 2004 and 2008 became a popular and important figure at the lilywhites, Robinson who was signed from Leeds United for a fee of £1.5 million pounds back in May of 2004, Robinson went on to make 175 appearances for Spurs which included a 2008 league cup winners medal for Robinson. As well as a top shot stopper Robinson was also a brilliant kicker of the ball, and on St.Patrick’s day in 2007 Robinson created an unforgettable memory for Spurs fans, when in a premier league game against Watford, he remarkably scored the second goal of his professional career. I was sat in the north stand on that sunny Saturday afternoon at White Hart Lane, Martin Jol’s side were in full control of the game as Jermaine Jenas had put us ahead on the stroke of half time. On the 63rd minute of the game a seemingly routine free kick from 95 yards out was kicked by Robinson, even now I remember it in slow motion as it travelled all the way into Ben Foster’s box before bouncing over the England internationals head and into the back of the net, to the astonishment of the crowd. I remember thinking to myself did Robinson really score that! As Ricardo Rocha and Michael Dawson rushed to congratulate him, we ended up winning the game 3-1 over the hornets. But that game will forever be etched in to the memories of Spurs fans for the incredible long range goal scored by Paul Robinson. I wish Paul a very happy retirement and thank him for his time at Spurs.

Spurs XI 1-3 Ebbsfleet United: (match report)

“I think there were some positives, some nice play at times. We have to do better at both ends – certainly we have to defend better in our box and be a bit better in their box as well, but it’s game one so we’ll take the positives, get back on the training field and carry out some more work. (Wayne Burnett)

IMG_3002.JPG

A Spurs XI took on national league side Ebbsfleet United on Saturday afternoon in a pre season friendly which was being held in memory of Ebbsfleet’s former captain and assistant manager Paul McCarthy who passed away earlier this year. Wayne Burnett fielded an incredibley youthful side in what was his first in charge as under 23 head coach, our young XI put up a spirited fight against the fleet in a game where the scores finished 3-1 to the home side despite Spurs’ best efforts. A crowd of 2,130 packed in to Stonebridge road to watch this afternoons match which despite the negative scoreline, was a hugely intriguing and competitive game which will have provided some excellent experience for our young players. Burnett’s team was a lot younger than I expected, with the majority of players being around the age of 18, whilst there were several notable absentees from our under 23 squad which included Will Miller, Anthony Georgiou and Alfie Whiteman. Spurs enjoyed a good spell of possession in the opening minutes of the game and they produced an early chance to show for it, on six minutes Harrison who was playing on the right wing, slid the ball across to Loft in the box, though he slipped the striker managed to get a shot on goal which seemed to be stopped by the hands of an Ebbsfleet defender, the referee waved play on. It was the home side who broke the deadlock on 17 minutes through former Spurs man Darren McQueen, the pacy striker was in the right place at the right time as he tapped home Jack Connors whipped cross from out wide, leaving De Bie helpless in the Spurs nets.

IMG_3003

We were presented with a half chance a couple of minutes later after, Keanan Bennett’s was fouled on the edge of the box, Shashoua’s following free kick wasn’t too far away as it rose over the cross bar. Five minutes later the home side again tested our defence at the other end, a ball was sprayed across the face of De Bie’s goal which Maghoma managed to get a vital touch on to, to steer it clear of danger. Soon afterwards Daryl McMahon’s side came at us again, this time via Jack Powell whose free kick hammered on to De Bie’s right post before going wide. Burnett’s side made an instant response down the other end as 20 year old midfielder Joe Pritchard tried his luck from range, he’s delightful curling effort going narrowly over Ashmore’s cross bar, an excellent effort from Pritchard! We again came close through the midfielder on the stroke of half time but his half chance hit the side netting. The fleet came firing out the blocks at the beginning of the second half, and it was former Spur Darren McQueen who was again at the root of it, the striker got the better of Maghoma for pace before firing an effort at goal which was saved well by De Bie. Only two minutes later Bennett’s forced a fine stop out of Ashmore with his powerful effort from outside the box.

We found ourselves 2-0 down on 51 minutes after the national league side doubled their lead courtesy of a thunderbolt from midfielder Luke Coulson. Coulson’s effort from just outside the box left De Bie with no chance as it flew into the bottom left hand corner of the net, a superb strike from the Ebbsfleet man. Just when it looked like our young side had the game out of bounds, Shayon Harrison produced a fine effort a mere two minutes after Ebbsfleet’s goal. The goal came about after Bennett’s whipped delivery was blocked out in to the path of Harrison, who from the edge of the area rifled a shot into the back of the net, 2-1! We almost levelled in the minutes that followed after Loft lashed the ball across the face of Ashmore’s goal, but McMahon’s side were looking to capitalise on our attacking style of play, former Hull city man Aaron McLean fired a close range effort over the newly introduced Charlie Freeman’s cross bar, in a chance that should have put the game to bed for the hosts. Just seven minutes later it looked as if we had grabbed a dramatic late equaliser through substitute Jack Roles, Bennett’s initial shot was parried by Ashmore only for Tracey’s follow up to be deflected into the path of poacher Jack Roles who bundled the ball home from close range, only to see the linesman flag for offside, a cruel blow for Burnett’s side!

IMG_3010

The Kent club confirmed their victory nine minutes from time when substitute Danny Kedwell sealed victory from the penalty spot. The referee pointed to the spot after Dean Rance’s pass struck the arm of Japhet Tanganga, the referees decision in my opinion was a bit harsh. Kedwell’s powerful effort from the spot landed in the bottom corner of the net despite a fine touch by Freeman. Ebbsfleet almost found their fourth deep in stoppage time, after Coulson spotted Freeman off his line the winger tried his luck from long range but the 17 year goalkeeper on his first under 23 appearance got back to tip the ball over the bar. The final score Ebbsfleet United 3-1 Spurs, the fleet ran out deserved winners in a highly entertaining game. Despite the result for Burnett’s side, at the end of the day it was men against boys and I thought our lads did themselves proud this afternoon. Our under 23’s are involved in another pre season friendly next Saturday against league 2 side Cambridge United, it’s great to have Spurs back after a long summer! COYS

My Man of the match: Our most creative and proactive player, my man of the match was 18 year old winger turned wingback Keanan Bennett’s, whose sharpness and crossing caused the home side many problems down the left side.

Player reviews:

– Jonathan De Bie: Was pleased to see De Bie get 70 minutes for the under 23’s after such a long injury lay off last season, made a couple of good saves and was good playing the ball out from the back, showed good feet.
– TJ Eyoma: Really mature and impressive performance from the right back, dealt well with the physicality of the game and looked very comfortable throughout.
– Keanan Bennett’s: Adapted really well to the unfamiliar role of left wing back, was probably our most creative player. Used his pace well down the wing, was very sharp.
– Luke Amos: One of the most experienced players in the side, Amos dominated the midfield and was tidy with his passing throughout.
– Christian Maghoma: The captain was heavily involved throughout the game, dealt really well with the physicalness of the home side and the pace of McQueen. Also demonstrated good leadership.
– Japhet Tanganga: The 18 year old centre half had a decent game at the back good in the air, Tanganga was very unlucky to concede a penalty.
– Shayon Harrison: Our only goalscorer Harrison enjoyed a good second half on the wing after a quiet first one.
– Joe Pritchard: One of our best players going forward from the midfield, was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
– Ryan Loft: Battled really well up front showed some really impressive hold up play but didn’t receive a lot of service.
– Samuel Shashoua: Although only playing the first half, Shashoua played as a free roaming attacking midfielder, skilful and tidy throughout.
– Shilow Tracey: Had a very quiet game down the left wing against his former club.
– Dylan Duncan: Impressive second half showing from the midfielder.
– Jack Roles: Decent under 23 debut for Roles, desperately unlucky not to get our equaliser.

Ebbsfleet United: Ashmore, Connors (Graham 72), Winfield (c), Clark (Shields 72), Powell (Rance 64), Drury (Coulson 46), Weston (Cook 51), McQueen (Mambo 72), Payne, Mills (Kedwell 64), Magri (McLean 72). Substitutes (not used): McCoy, Miles (GK).

Some thoughts on Kyle Walker’s departure:

Some thoughts on Kyle Walkers departure:

IMG_2996.JPG

On Friday our right back Kyle Walker joined premier league rivals Manchester City in a world record £53 million deal. Five years ago few would have predicted that Kyle Walker would go on to become one of Europes finest right backs. But that’s exactly what the Sheffield born footballer has achieved under the guidance of our manager Mauricio Pochettino, always rated as a hot prospect since joining from Sheffield united in 2009. Despite his lightning quick pace and defensive might, he was plagued with injury problems and he never showed his true potential. That all changed when Pochettino arrived, the right back has developed in to the complete right back, whose pivotal role in Pochettino’s footballing philosophy saw him considered as one of Europe’s finest full backs over the past two seasons. Exciting, powerful and defensively superb, Walker enjoyed his finest season during the 2016/17 campaign, rightfully earning his place in the PFA team of the season, he was without doubt one of our best players during last seasons successful campaign.

However, for one reason or another Walker finds himself at Man City the subject of a world record fee, despite the astronomical fee and expected departure, Walker’s exit from the lilywhites still comes as a shock and as a great loss to our talented team. In a side where the full backs are such an important part of our style of play, Pochettino faces a dilemma. Does he sign a replacement rumoured to be a player in a similar mould to Walker (Ricardo Pereira of Porto) or does he keep faith in Kieran Trippier as Walker’s replacement, whilst rotating him with the young Kyle Walker-Peters.
Pochettino’s intentions will come clearer over the coming weeks, but one things for certain and that’s that Kyle Walker leaves a huge void to fill in our team. It’s been a pleasure to watch Walker play for us over the time he has been at Spurs, a warrior on the pitch Walker had a special connection with our fans. And whilst it’s hard to take, Walker gave his all at Spurs and I wish him all the very best at his new club, thank you for the memories. COYS

Spurs XI versus Ebbsfleet United: (match preview)

IMG_2969.JPG

It’s our development sides first game of the 2017/18 season on Saturday, as a Spurs XI takes on National league club Ebbsfleet United at their Stonebridge road stadium in a pre season friendly. Ebbsfleet are holding the game in memory of their 2008 FA Trophy-winning captain and former assistant manager Paul McCarthy, who passed away recently at the age of 45. Spurs promised to send a team as part of the deal for former Ebbsfleet youngster Shilow Tracey. The game will be our new under 23’s head coach Wayne Burnett’s first in charge of Spurs’ development squad, and what an opportunity it will be for his players to come up against a tough senior opposition. The Kent club who were only promoted to the national league last season, have some really experienced players in their side that will really challenge our youngsters. Veteran striker Aaron McLean who scored against us for Hull City a couple of seasons ago plays for the fleet, so too does experienced former Wycombe winger Myles Weston as well as former Blackpool midfielder Jack Payne. There are also two ex Spurs lads in manager Daryl McMahon’s side, former academy goalkeeper Jonathan Miles (24) and ex academy striker Darren McQueen (22) both ply their trade with the National league club. I will be reporting on Saturdays game, for which I cannot wait for, its been too long since Spurs last played. I will be providing an in depth match report from the game which will be an intriguing occasion, though it’s a great challenge for Burnett’s side, there’s no better way to begin pre season then with a friendly against a National league side. COYS

Team news: 18 year old winger Marcus Edwards is away on international duty for England under 19’s at the European championships in Georgia, whilst goalkeeper Tom Glover is on international duty with Australia’s under 23 side in Myanmar. As always with pre season friendlies, substitutions will be happening throughout the game and this will provide opportunities for younger players like Jack Roles, Samuel Shashoua and Dylan Duncan to adapt to under 23 football ahead of the new season. Whilst the team is likely to be made up of under 23’s, I wouldn’t be surprised to see senior players such as Onomah and Nkoudou involved.

My team prediction: (3-4-2-1) Whiteman, Tanganga, Maghoma, Marsh, Walker-Peters, Goddard, Amos, Georgiou, Tracey, Miller, Harrison.

My score prediction: 2-2 courtesy of goals from Tracey and Harrison.

One to watch: The fleets former Spurs academy player Darren McQueen, the striker who has played for England C scored the winning goal to promote Ebbsfleet to the national league last season.

The final stage of the Checkatrade trophy draw was announced this afternoon with Spurs’ development squad being drawn in group F of the southern section alongside League one club AFC Wimbledon, and league two clubs Luton town and Barnet. The tournament which begins next month will see Wayne Burnett’s side play all three group games away from home against the EFL clubs. It’s an intriguing draw which will see us play in two london derbies, as well as a trip to Kenilworth road to face Luton town. This tournament is a massive challenge for our youngsters and it will be a fantastic opportunity for them, whilst it would be a massive achievement to progress from their group, we’ve got the quality to achieve it and head coach Wayne Burnett who won the competition as a player for Grimsby, will know how important a competition it is for the young Lilywhites. In other news a Spurs team beat National league side Leyton Orient 4-0 this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly at Hotspur way, the goals were scored by Walker-Peters, Nkoudou, Jaden Brown and Will Miller. Three senior players took part in the game, with Michel Vorm, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josh Onomah all being involved, you can watch the goals in the tweet provided below. Finally 18 year old Spurs starlet Marcus Edwards played a big part in getting England under 19’s to the final of the European championships this evening, the winger went on a brilliant run to assist Lukas Nmecha for a last gasp winner against the Czech Republic. Luke McGee signs for Portsmouth:

Luke McGee signs for Portsmouth:

IMG_2984.JPG

Spurs announced this morning the departure of 21 year old goalkeeper Luke McGee to league one side Portsmouth on a permanent deal. The Spurs supporting, academy graduate joins Pompey on a three year contract, the talented Edgware born goalkeeper played for Pochettino’s side during the 2015 Audi cup. A regular in the development squad over the last few seasons, McGee’s breakthrough season came most recently with a loan move to Peterborough where he excelled at the league one club winning their player of the year prize. McGee who is now 21 years of age is at an important stage in his career, were he to have stayed with us he would have probably only been limited to under 23 matches, and with Spurs linked with signing goalkeeper Pau Lopez, McGee’s chances of making the first team squad would have been extremely slim. An excellent shot stopper and a top professional I have no doubts that McGee will be playing Championship football in the near future, he’s definitely got premier league potential. I wish Luke the very best of luck at his new club and in his development as a footballer.

Young Spurs under 16 player Kane Patterson has been called up to Scotlands under 16’s team for the forthcoming Under-16 International Tournament, Patterson will also be involved in September for two friendly matches before being part of the squad that competes in this year’s Victory Shield in Northern Ireland. Patterson who plays as a full back is the youngster brother of first year scholar and Spurs winger Phoenix Patterson, I actually saw Kane play last season in an under 15 game against Milwall, which he played at left back, I was impressed by his performance that day, it will also be interesting to see if any Spurs players make the England under 16 squad for the same tournament. In other academy related news, Wayne Burnett’s development side will tomorrow find out which group they’ll be drawn in for this seasons Checkatrade Trophy, the draw should be announced by tomorrow afternoon with Spurs facing some very tricky groups. Why Ross Barkley would be a perfect addition to Spurs:

Why Ross Barkley would be a perfect addition to Spurs:

Key attributes:
– Dribbling
– Passing
– Vision
– Long shots
– Through balls

IMG_2978.JPG

Rumours linking Everton midfielder Ross Barkley to our club (Spurs) have been going around for some time now, and with the toffees signing of Wayne Rooney over the weekend, those rumours linking Barkley with Spurs will surely be reignited. Whilst Spurs generally remain as the bookies favourites to be Barkley’s next club, Spurs are still yet to make a move for the 23 year old whose contract expires at the end of next season. The following is not an article on whether or not I think Barkley will come to Spurs, instead it’s on how I think he’d become a perfect addition to Pochettino’s squad. Barkley who joined Everton as an 11 year old, is an attacking midfielder who has been capped by England on 22 occasions. The youngster who has been a big part of Everton’s first team for many seasons, has put in some eye catching performances which quickly won him wide spread admiration from those with in the footballing community. A powerful and pacy attacking midfielder with silky skills, the Englishman has netted 21 goals in 150 appearances for his boyhood club, picking up many an assist in the process. Whilst in his younger years, considered as one of England’s hottest footballing prodigies, it’s fair to say that the Everton man hasn’t quite reached his full potential, whilst at times inconsistent, spectators are constantly reminded by his class, especially when it comes to his excellent dribbling ability.

A versatile midfielder Barkley would bring a whole new dimension to Spurs’ attack, suitable as an attacking midfielder, winger on both flanks, and as a central midfielder. Barkley is a different type of player to Alli or Eriksen for example, he’s more rounded then the two in regards to his style of play, I’d even go as far as drawing comparisons to star Spurs man Mousa Dembele. His technically a similar albeit further forward player than the Belgian, both very strong on the ball, Barkley also dribbles with the ball in a similar way to Dembele. A hugely gifted player yet to have his potential fully unlocked, there’s no better manager for him to flourish under than Pochettino, our manager has developed young English players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier into footballing superstars on the international stage. Whilst he would come to Spurs as an older player, the Everton man strikes me as a very Pochettino like player.

IMG_2976

We haven’t currently got an attacking player like Barkley, who can just surge forward with a ball, Alli and Eriksen don’t posses that pace about their game. He has drawn comparisons with footballing greats such as Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, praised by Barcelona legend Xavi for his physical and technical ability. But the 23 year old Liverpudlian is still to prove himself consistently on the biggest stage. And question marks would fall on whether he is ready for a move to Pochettino’s champions league side.

Our squad is not huge nor is our depth, whilst Eriksen, Alli, Son and Lamela would all start ahead of Barkley were he to make the move to north London, the midfielders versatility makes him such a useful player to have. He could cover for Dembele in the midfield, as well as coming on as an impact sub on the wings, but he’s best position would be behind Kane where his creativity would blossom, and I’m sure his goal tally would greatly improve playing around such talented players. I don’t think we need to sign loads of players this summer but my opinion is this, Barkley would probably be a very pricey gamble, but Pochettino’s gambles on unknown players like Dier and Alli leave me more than confident that Pochettino can develop an already proven talent into a world class player. Jack Roles: Spurs’ young goal machine

Jack Roles: Spurs’ young goal machine

IMG_2971

Some quick facts: – Roles represents Cyprus’ at youth team level, appearing most recently in their under 19’s side.
– The midfielder scored 20 goals in just 29 appearances last season.
– Roles signed a professional contract with the Lilywhites last month.
– Jack has been a part of Spurs’ academy set up since the age of six.
– Although Roles plays as a midfielder he actually started off as a centre back.

I haven’t done an article on one of our talented academy players for some time now, and with the season just weeks away there’s no better time for me to do an article on one of the under 18’s star performers during the 2016/17 season, Jack Roles. The 18 year old local lad who grew up in Enfield, scored a phenomenal 20 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions last term. What makes this goal scoring feat even more impressive is the fact that Roles is a central midfielder. The under 18’s top scorer with 19 goals, Roles perfectly timed runs from the midfield, and his prolificness in front of goal made him one of John McDermott’s most consistent and important players throughout the campaign. After starting out as a centre half for which he operated as, as an under 16, Roles has mastered his central midfield position over the past two seasons. It’s not his skill, pace or panache that catches the eye, it’s his off the ball movement which is his greatest attribute. The tall 18 year old has shown time and time again, his ability to ghost in to the penalty area and poach the ball home, in a way that even Frank Lampard would be proud of. Whilst in a similar mould to the former Chelsea and England midfielder, Roles is more versatile with in the centre of the park. Tenacious and willing to get stuck in, Roles is an old fashioned midfielder, composed and simple he never overplays his game. The midfielder who represents Cyprus at youth level, is such a wonderful player to watch. He’s tidy in his passing and overall play but above all it’s he’s decisiveness that wins him his plaudits.

img_2237

The way he just appears out of nowhere to tap home a loose ball, he has that awareness about his game just like Dele Alli and Harry Kane did at the same age. Roles scores all kind of goals, tap ins, curlers and Tom Huddlestone like thunder bolts, but it’s his key runs that makes him so prolific a scorer. Oddly enough despite his impressive two seasons with the under 18’s, the midfielder is still yet to make his debut for the under 23’s, with Roles being limited only to appearances on the bench. That will all change this season with Roles no longer eligible to play for the under 18’s, the youngster will enjoy plenty of opportunities throughout a wide range of competitions. A bright talent, Roles is never afraid to have a go from range and his driving long shots are another of his key attributes. I was so impressed with him during last season and I’m very optimistic for his future with Spurs, having signed professional terms with Spurs last month, Roles is highly rated by the club and next season will provide him with an even greater challenge. I look forward to seeing this special talent in our development squad over the coming season, and I’m sure his first team debut won’t be too far away!

A Spurs X1 side will face National league side Ebbsfleet United in a pre season friendly at the clubs Stonebridge road stadium next Saturday, I will be reporting on the game which will be Wayne Burnett’s first in charge of our development squad. COYS
