Date: Tuesday 19 September, kick off: 8:00 pm.
Venue: Wembley stadium
Referee: Tim Robinson
Previous meeting: Spurs 1-0 Barnsley (1999)

I want our lads to go out and try and win this seasons Carabao cup which starts for us this evening with the visit of championship club Barnsley to the national stadium. Regardless of how strong a side Pochettino fields for the early stages of the competition. I vividly remember the disappointment I felt last October, sitting in the Anfield away end, as a youthful and inexperienced Spurs side crashed out of the cup to the Reds in a 2-1 defeat. Pochettino clearly expressed his intentions about the competition at yesterday’s press conference at Hotspur way. You can’t argue with his prioritisation of the premier and Champions league, but my view is that the supporters as well as the club as a whole, are hungry for silverware, and this competition provides the most realistic place where we can achieve that. Enough of my views, this evenings opponents Barnsley who are managed by Paul Heckingbottom, are expected to bring 3,000 fans down to London for the match. The tykes are a club who we haven’t faced since the late 1990’s when a memorable David Ginola goal stole the show. The Yorkshire club, who play their football in the championship, have achieved a lot on a small budget since their return to the second tier. Barnsley have a talented young side who have some great up and coming prospects on their books. Two of them are loanees Harvey Barnes (Leicester) and Ike Ugbo (Chelsea) who incidentally both caused our youth teams great bother last season. Barnes is a tricky winger, whilst Ugbo is one of England finest striking prospects. Though, the tykes most potent player is probably Welsh centre forward Tom Bradshaw who holds a good scoring record for them.

I’m looking forward to seeing some of our youngsters that I have watched for years, get their debut tonight. But I’m also mindful of the fact that we must respect our opposition who beat Morecambe and Derby on route to this tie. I’ve a good feeling about this game. COYS

Absentees: Lamela, Wanyama, Rose.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Vorm(c),Walker-Peters, Dier, Foyth, Bennetts, Winks, Oakley-Boothe, Sissoko, Alli, Nkoudou, Llorente.

Youngsters on the bench (my prediction): Dylan Duncan.

My predicted score line: 4-0 to Spurs courtesy of a brace from Llorente, a goal from Alli and one from Walker-Peters!

One to watch: Barnsley’s on loan Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo, a player that our youth
teams will know very, very well.

Wayne Burnett’s development squad return to PL2 action on Monday evening, when his side host Swansea at the Lamex stadium. On the back of a 4-1 defeat to current holders of the league (Everton) last Sunday, our under 23’s return to a ground where they hold an excellent recent record. Having won our last six games at Stevenage’s stadium, Burnett’s side will fancy making it seven when they host a newly promoted Swansea side on Monday evening. The opposition, who were promoted from division two last season after finishing top of their league, have started the season with four points from their first four league games. The swans last match was a 5-2 victory over Derby county, though Gary Richards’ side had the luxury of having senior players such as Wilfred Bony and Luciano Narsingh in their side. Swansea under 23’s head coach had the following to say ahead of Mondays game: “Monday’s win against Derby has given us confidence and we want to use that result as a catalyst to continue to raise our game for back-to-back performances in the league.
Our players learned a lot from the experience of first-team players alongside them and I hope we can show that in upcoming games. We have to make sure we are competitive and continue to raise our game.“ Burnett’s team will be very telling come Monday evening, with the seniors playing Barnsley just a day later in the league cup, with a fair few youth players expected to play their part in that game, the absentees tomorrow will give a greater indication of who Pochettino will give first team action to.

Ironically our meeting with Swansea comes just two days after our senior side played out a frustrating stalemate with the South Wales team, here’s hoping we don’t see the same tomorrow. As always, I will be reporting on tomorrows game. COYS

Team news: The team sheet will be an intriguing one for this game due to Tuesdays Carabao cup game. I’d expect there to be at least five youngsters in Pochettino’s match day squad, I’d be very surprised if Marcus Edwards and Anthony Georgiou weren’t two of them. Shayon Harrison still appears to be injured so I wouldn’t expect to see him in action against Swansea. Meanwhile 17 year old striker Reo Griffiths wasn’t involved for our under 18’s match at the weekend, my theory is that he’ll be involved in the under 23 match tomorrow, possibly because Sterling is going to be involved in the Barnsley match. Either way, tomorrows match day squad will be of great interest.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Austin, Marsh, Maghoma, Tanganga, Tsaroulla, Skipp, Amos, Tracey, Pritchard(c), S.Shashoua, Griffiths.

My score prediction: Spurs 4-2.

One to watch: Swansea’s talented 22 year old winger Kenji Gorré and one time Man united academy player is my one to watch for Mondays game. The Dutchman is a talented and experienced player with an eye for goal.

On the same day as our seniors take on German club Borussia Dortmund at Wembley in the champions league, our under 19’s will also face the famous German side in the UEFA youth league, a competition which mirrors the group were in for the champions league. The brilliant John McDermott will be leading our under 19’s out for this seasons campaign, as our talented youngsters get the opportunity to go head to head with some of the finest academies in world football. After our slightly disappointing debut campaign in the competition last season, which saw our lads finish in bottom place of our group with four points, this ever improving side will be hoping to improve on that, in a much tougher group. The opposition who are renowned for their academy, have some incredibly talented players included in their squad. Highly rated Swedish striker Alexander Isak and young Dane Jacob Bruun Larsen are just two players to watch out for, from a squad brimming with talent. However, fans hoping to see one of England’s most talented youngsters (and reported Spurs transfer target over the summer) Jadon Sancho, will be left dissapointed. As the former Man City player hasn’t been listed in either of Dortmund’s squads for the forthcoming competition. Our squad, which contains notable talents such as Marcus Edwards, Samuel Shashoua and Kazaiah Sterling, all have the ability to test Dortmund for what proves to be a tough but intriguing game.

Unfortunately I will be unable to report on tomorrows game, but for Spurs fans wishing to watch the game, can do so, it’s being shown live on BT Sport 1. I wish our lads the very best of luck for tomorrows big game. COYS

My predicted lineup:(4-2-3-1) De Bie, Eyoma, Tanganga(c), Dinzeyi, Brown, Duncan, Skipp, S.Shashoua, Roles, Edwards, Sterling.

One to watch: Young Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who is one of the hottest prospects in the game.

Tottenham’s stunning 3-0 victory over Everton on Saturday was exactly the kind of result and performance that could kick start Mauricio Pochettino’s sides season, at such a crucial early stage. On Wednesday night Spurs kick off their UEFA champions league campaign at home to German giants Borussia Dortmund at our interim home, Wembley stadium. A stadium for which has seen Spurs lose two of their previous three champions league games since last season. Our group contains the best team in the world and current holders of the competition Real Madrid, as well as Dortmund and Cypriot side APOEl Nicosia. This means Spurs must get off to a win when these two teams go head to head on Wednesday night, this will see the lilywhites under pressure to perform ahead of Wednesday’s glamour tie, incredibly tough away trips in the group will also prove difficult for Pochettino’s side. Hence the importance for our players to put their Wembley woes behind them with victory over the Bundesliga club. Spurs’ dominant and impressive free flowing victory over the toffees at the weekend will surely be a confidence booster. Die Borussen who drew their Bundesliga game away to Freiburg over the weekend, are renowned for their footballing pedigree and technical ability. A fact which Spurs fans know all too well following our previous schooling from the German club in the Europa league a couple of seasons back.

Peter Bosz’s side are still one of the strongest sides in Europe despite the many key outgoings that have occurred over the past few seasons. The former European cup winners boast an array of quality attacking talent, who with their speed and skill could tear us apart on the large Wembley pitch. Despite all their superb attacking players like winger Christian Pulisic and striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, I’m quietly optimistic about Wednesday’s game. We have the better defence and are arguably the better structured of the two sides, and if we can contain Bosz’s side and produce a similar performance to the one that we saw on Saturday, then we have every chance of securing maximum points. Whilst Dortmund are without injured players such as Marco Reus and Marc Bartra for the Spurs game, they still have some of the finest players in European football. A plethora of attacking talent is at the oppositions disposal, lighting fast striker Aubameyang, as well as the potent Pulisic down the flank are enough to give Pochettino nightmares going into this game. Whilst, they also have creative maestro and World Cup winner Mario Gotze in their midfield. It may sound absurd, but our lads have every chance of winning this extremely difficult group, when the team click we can beat any side on the planet, I’m just hoping that we can do that tomorrow for what proves to be a mouth watering game. COYS

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris(C), Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Aurier, Dier, Dembele, Davies, Son, Eriksen, Kane.

My score prediction: 2-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Eriksen and Kane.

One to watch: Dortmunds prolific and pacy striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is one of the finest and most respected forwards in the game. The Gabon international scored an excellent goal against us the last time we met.

Our under 23’s take to the field of one of England’s great stadiums on Sunday afternoon, less than day after our senior side play on the same pitch. Wayne Burnett’s team return to PL2 action with an away game against the holders of the competition, in David Unsworth’s Everton side. Before I get into previewing the game, there will be something quite poignant about Sundays game especially from a Spurs team perspective and that’s that the last time these teams met (also at Goodison) the late Ugo Ehiogu was in the Spurs dug out leading the lilywhites less than 2 weeks before his tragic passing. Sunday’s game comes just a day after our seniors meet at the same ground, Burnett’s side who have won their last two games on the bounce will face arguably their toughest test of the season thus far. With Unsworth’s side which has been strengthened during the summer, providing some of the finest young talents in England. Former Coventry striker Basala Sambou gave our defence a torrid time when these teams last met, whilst right back Jonjo Kenny is another player to watch out for. However, the toffees most potent player could well be 27 year old striker Baye Oumar Niasse, who Ronald Koeman has never fancied since he took over last season. There’s also the possibility of Unsworth fielding a clutch of fringe senior players, like he did during last seasons game. Either way it promises to be a great test for our lads, and I will be reporting from Goodison park on Sunday’s game. COYS

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Austin, Eyoma, C.Maghoma, Tanganga, Bennetts, Skipp, Pritchard(c), Edwards,S.Shashoua, Georgiou, Sterling.

My score prediction: 2-1 to Spurs.

One to watch: The blues 27 year old striker Baye Oumar Niasse isn’t a player you’d expect to playing under 23 football. The player who spent last season on loan at Hull, is simply un fancied by Koeman. Niasse will provide a real test for our centre halves, if selected.

After a two week international break, Scott Parker’s Spurs under 18 side return to action on Saturday morning when they face Southampton at the saints Staplewood training ground. I will be reporting on Saturdays game from the training ground, in a fixture which provided one of the results of the season for Spurs last term, with our under 18’s thrashing the saints 6-2 in the same fixture last season. However, this is a much changed side who go against one of the finest under 18 sides in the league, Southampton who have been long famed for their academy. Have started the season with a victory and two defeats, but Craig Fleming’s side have a clutch of really talented players in their side. Nimble footed midfielder Will Smallbone and strikers Jonathan Afolabi and Michael Obafemi are but a few of their hot prospects. Whilst it’s impossible to predict what Parker’s starting lineup will be come Saturday, I believe that young winger Rayan Clarke (16) is injured, so that’s why he hasn’t featured thus far. As is always the case when these two side meet, a thrilling game will likely pursue. My match report will be published on Saturday evening. COYS

My predicted lineup: De Bie(c), Lock, Lyons-Foster, Dinzeyi, Hinds, Bowden, P.Maghoma, Markanday, A.Shashoua, P.Patterson, Griffiths.

One to watch: The saints 17 year old centre forward Jonathan Afolabi, who is an Ireland under 19’s international. Afolabi is a brilliant young player, the striker who has already scored on 2 occasions for Southampton’s under 23 side this term, will be a real handful for our defence if he is selected.

Premier league action returns for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side on Saturday afternoon, when the lilywhites make the trip up to Merseyside to face Everton at Goodison park. The toffees home ground has become a bit of a bogey ground for Spurs over recent years, with Spurs only winning twice their in the last 10 years. It’s certainly been a mixed start to the season for the lads, on the back of a challenging start to life at Wembley Spurs have got four points on the board from their first three games. Whilst the opposition who have spent heavily over the summer following the departure of star man Romelu Lukaku, have also got four points on the board. Ronald Koeman is building something special at Everton, as they look to build on last seasons seventh placed finish, he’s brought in 14 players including talents such as Wayne Rooney and former Spurs man Gylfi Siggurdson. But the Dutchman is also bringing through a lot of young English talent, much like our own manager Mauricio Pochettino. The toffees who have very strong home form, are likely to prove a very tough away test for our players, the blues had the fourth best home form in the league last season. Whilst it’s unknown whether new Spurs signings Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth and Fernando Llorente could debut, I’m expecting a slightly altered side to the one that drew to Burnley at Wembley, I have a feeling Pochettino will want to inject pace in to the game, so I’m guessing Moussa Sissoko will start down the right.

Everton are a well structured side with a mean defence, their new recruits Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurrdson’s creativity are likely to be their main attacking threat. You never know what can happen after an international break but I’m quite optimistic for Saturdays game, but most importantly of all we cannot lose! COYS

Spurs absentees: Lamela, Rose, Nkoudou, Wanyama.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lloris(c), Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.

My predicted score line: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of a hat trick from Harry Kane!

One to watch: The toffees tireless defensive midfielder, Idrissa Gueye. The Senegalese international is such an integral part of Ronald Koeman’s side.

We may be in the middle of an international break, whilst Spurs fans will be engrossed in all the latest news on incomings with the transfer window reaching its climax tomorrow night. However, my focus tomorrow evening will be solely on our under 23 side who have an important game against West Ham at the Lamex stadium. The match kicks off one of three group games for Wayne Burnetts side in this seasons Premier League international cup, which will also see us face Benfica B and Villarreal B later on in the year. This competition which we competed in during the 2015/16 season, gives our young side the opportunity to test themselves against a host of Europes finest youth sides, whilst also trying to win some silverware in the process. Our encounter against Terry Westley’s side comes just under two weeks after our PL2 game against them, which saw the hammers narrowly beat us 3-2 at our training centre. Both sides will look noticeably different for this cup tie, due to international call ups. I’m excited to see what the team sheet will read for what promises to be an intriguing match. My in depth match report will be published late on Thursday night. COYS

My match report of our last meeting: https://superhotspur.com/2017/08/22/spurs-under-23s-2-3-west-ham-united-match-report/

Team news: Due to the current international break Burnetts team will look very different to the one that thrashed Man United 3-0 on Friday evening. There’s a whole host of development squad players who are away on international duty for various international youth sides, the following of which are listed. England: Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp, Jaden Brown, TJ Eyoma, Keanan Bennetts, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Marcus Edwards. Belgium: Jonathan De Bie. Cyprus: Jack Roles. Whilst George Marsh has returned to the squad, I would be surprised to see Nick Tsaroulla be involved tomorrow (presumably due to injury). Hopefully 19 year old centre half Christian Maghoma will return to action against the hammers, his presence will be vital in dealing with their potent striker Antonio Martinez. I’m also hoping to see talented winger Samuel Shashoua get his first start of the season down the right flank.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Austin, Hinds, Dinzeyi, C.Maghoma, Georgiou, Duncan, Amos, S.Shashoua, Pritchard(C), Miller, Sterling.

My score prediction: 3-2 to Spurs.

One to watch: West Ham’s tricky winger Nathan Holland, Holland stood out during our last encounter with West Ham, he was prominent down the left wing, and scored a peach of a goal late on.

Head2Heads: 2-1 Spurs, 2-0.

With a two week international break approaching, Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side will be desperate to put their Wembley woes behind them, when they face Burnley this afternoon. Our lads face Sean Dyche’s defence minded Burnley side on the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea last Sunday. We may only be three games into the league campaign but getting a victory over Burnley this afternoon is of the utmost importance, and in doing so Spurs can build the confidence they so desperately need at the national stadium. The visitors cannot be undermined ahead of today’s clash, their a well structured and rigid outfit, who despite operating on a small budget. Have mustered together a really good side. Pochettino’s side will have to be wary of the threat posed by target man Sam Vokes and Burnley’s record signing Chris Wood who could make his full debut. However, there is one big positive to take into today’s game and that’s that Burnley only managed to win one away game last season, lets hope our home advantage counts! COYS

Spurs absentees: Danny Rose, Erik Lamela, Nkoudou.

Burnley absentees: Jon Walters, Dean Marney.

Burnley doubts: Jeff Hendrick.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lloris (C), Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.

My score prediction: 2-0 to Spurs courtesy of a brace from Harry Kane!

One to watch: A player I know well, Irish winger Robbie Brady will provide a real threat down the wing. The former Man United man’s excellent crossing and searing pace, will be of bother for our lads.

It’s another busy weekend of football for Spurs across all levels, as our under 18’s are in action tomorrow morning, after our under 23’s game against Man United on Friday night. Scott Parker’s side take on the seagulls under 18’s at 11:30am tomorrow morning, at our Hotspur Way training ground. Parker’s team come in to the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat suffered at Leicester last Saturday, though we did manage to start the season off with a thumping 4-0 victory over Norwich at the training ground. Meanwhile, our opponents who are managed by Ian Buckman, have started the season in fine fashion with victories over West Ham and Norwich respectively. Our under 18’s beat Brighton 4-0 in the reverse fixture last season with goals from S.Shashoua x2, Tanganga and Duncan being enough on that day. I’m hoping to get to see some more of our first year scholars in action tomorrow. I will be reporting on tomorrows game, and will be doing an in depth match report. The lineup for the game will be dependent on which scholars are involved in this evenings under 23 game, hence the inclusion of Oliver Skipp and TJ Eyoma is very slim. COYS
