Spurs under 23’s versus Cambridge united: (match preview)
Another pre season friendly awaits our under 23 squad as Wayne Burnett’s side travel to league two club Cambridge United on Friday night. The game is a testimonial match for Cambridge’s defender and long serving player Josh Coulson, a young Spurs XI faced Ebbsfleet last Saturday but I’m expecting this game to have a couple more under 23 players in the Spurs side, with player such as Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling likely to travel to the Cambs glass stadium. This pre season game will again provide a fascinating challenge for Burnett’s side as they prepare for a long and busy season, with the U’s providing an important opposition ahead of the beginning of next months Checkatrade trophy. Burnett’s side who were invited to play in this testimonial will come up against some of league two’s finest players, Spurs will come up against experienced striker Jabo Ibehre who actually turned down Spurs as a 15 year old, in addition there will also be a second reunion in less than a year for Irishman Emmanuel Osadebe with Spurs. The former Gillingham man joined his former club from the Tottenham Hotspur foundation college back in 2015. I suspect Fridays game will again be made up of a mixture of under 18’s and 23’s similar to the young side which Burnett fielded against Ebbsfleet, players such as Sterling, Marsh, and Marcus Edwards could all feature. I will be reporting on the game from Cambridge on Friday night, and no doubt the game will give indications to how Burnett will prepare for the coming season, in regards to the players he favours, it also promises to be an intriguing game.
