Preview: We face Bourenmouth at the lane this Sunday in what is yet another must win fixture as we continue to battle for the league title, in this roller coaster ride of a Premier league season. The south coast club have been full of surprises this season and the cherries currently sit 13 points clear of the relegation zone as they look to continue their fine run of form against Pochettino’s men tomorrow afternoon. Despite losing two-one against Dormtund on Thursday Pochettino will no doubt be confident that our strongest eleven can defeat the cherries at the lane. However, Bourenmouth have many players that can cause the Lillywhites a whole host of problems, including the offensive trio of Max Gradel, Benik Afobe and Josh King, who will undoubtedly be on top of our back fours agenda against the nonchalant and fearless Bournemouth. Eddie Howe’s side play with great flair and they’ll look to implement their attacking philosophy on tomorrow afternoons match.

A strong defensive performance is key as Alderweireld and Wimmer will be essential to keeping Afobe at bay, whilst Kane will be hoping to add to his current seasons tally of 19 league goals in this fixture as we look to sink the high flying cherries. COYS⚽️

Team news: Ben Davies is out for this one after suffering concussion on Thursday night, whilst Vertonghen and Njié are ruled out through injury as is Nabil Bentaleb. However, the influential pairing of Dembele and Eriksen are fit to return for this critical fixture.

My predicted line up: (4-2-3-1) Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.

My predicted score: 4-2 Spurs with goals from Kane x3 and Alderweireld .

One to watch: Bournemouth’s prolific centre forward, Benik Afobe.

Spurs fell to a two-one defeat against the German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund at the lane last night in the second leg of their Europa league round of 16 tie, meaning the Lillywhites have been eliminated from the competition, having been defeated five-one on aggregate. Things didn’t start accordingly for Pochettino’s lads as the dazzling Dortmund seemed as overwhelming as ever whilst on the attack, and on 14 minutes the Germans almost opened the scoring. Mkhitarayan’s clever back heel to Reus in the box led to the winger firing a shot narrowly wide with his powerful shot hitting the side netting. A little over five minutes later Dortmund broke the deadlock after a superb goal for Aubameyang, the Gabonese international hit a sweet and powerful shot from 22 metres out which nestled perfectly in the right hand corner of the net, 1-0 Dortmund! Son almost levelled for Spurs on 41 minutes after receiving a fine pass from Ryan Mason inside the box as Son saw his effort drag wide of the left post. Shortly afterwards Dortmund almost doubled their lead after Mkhitarayan danced his way through the defence the Armenian found himself one on one with Lloris almost destined to score however, Toby Alderweireld recovered exceptionally well and blocked the Dortmund mans shot in what as good a challenge as you’ll see all season, it was a magnificent challenge from the Belgian.

Shortly before the hour mark in the second half Aubameyang almost scored a brace, after surging forward he was closing in on goal however, the Gabonese forward mishit his effort which flew harmlessly wide. The German outfit doubled their lead on 71 minutes sending the majority of the Spurs fans home in their droves, it was a brace for Aubameyang after he received a great pass from Mkhitarayan and the Dortmund striker fired the ball in to the back of the net, despite the best efforts of Lloris, 2-0 Dortmund! However it was not all doom and gloom on the night as a mere three minutes after Dortmunds second, Heung-Min Son scored a consolation goal for the Lillywhites. After pouncing on Subotic’s poor back pass the South Korean expertly rounded Weidenfeller and slotted home to make it 2-1 on the night and to restore some pride into the tie. Although it was not to be anymore than a consolation goal as the match finished 2-1 to Dortmund on the night and 5-1 on aggregate to the world class German outfit. There’s no time to reflect on our elimination as we face Bourenmouth in a massive premier league tie at the lane on Sunday. COYS⚽️

Spurs (4-2-3-1): Lloris (c), Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies (Rose 13), Dier, Mason, Lamela (Onomah 74), Alli (Carroll 69), Chadli, Son. Substitutes (not used): Vorm, Carter-Vickers, Winks, Kane.

Preview: Despite Pochettino’s men having a three goal deficit to overturn in this second leg tie at the lane, this European fixture still has all the ingredients of a classic European night under the White Hart lane lights. However, the lads will no doubt face a mammoth task as they prepare to face evidently one of the greatest clubs in Europe. Borussia Dortmund showcased their exquisite skill and admirable technical ability in last Thursday’s three nil thrashing in Germany, where a second string Spurs side were soundly defeated by the Bundesliga giants. It is a great puzzle as to how Pochettino will line up the Lillywhites in tomorrow’s encounter as Spurs look to salvage something from this tie and I’m sure Pochettino does too, regardless of his premier league focus. Whatever the squad that Pochettino chooses, the tactical approach should remain the same. The lads must get two early goals and ultimately they must stay strong at the back as they look for the third, an away goal for Dortmund would effectively end the tie.

Of course our chances of progressing are as slim as can be however, I believe that with an electric atmosphere and a spirit full and strong lineup, we can put up a great fight against a Dortmund side that will have a few key players rested. We as fans must remain hopeful, although Bourenmouth on Sunday is our rightful priority! COYS⚽️

Team news: Christian Eriksen and Moussa Dembele will be assessed prior to our meeting with Dortmund at the lane. Clinton Njié and Jan Vertonghen remain sidelined through injury whilst, Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier are expected to return at fullback. Heung-Min Son is poised to replace Erik Lamela on the right wing however, it remains a mystery as to whether Harry Kane will start up front. Dele Alli is available again after suspension.

My predicted team: (4-2-3-1) Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Davies, Mason, Dier, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.

My predicted score : 3-0 Spurs with goals from Alderweireld, Eriksen and Kane.

One to watch: Dortmunds powerful and creative Armenian forward, Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Spurs 2-0 Aston Villa: (Match report)

Spurs 2-0 Aston Villa: (Match report)

image.jpeg

The lads dissolved any memory of Thursday’s heart rending display with a glorious two, nil win against Aston Villa earlier this afternoon, as Pochettino’s men march on positively in their quest for the league title. The game was only four minutes old when Harry Kane almost took the lead, the 22 year old received a fine pass from Lamela and on the edge of the box Kane went for glory and his effort was mighty close as it clipped the crossbar leaving Guzan stunned in the Villa nets. 20 minutes afterwards Kane again went close to breaking the deadlock, after creating himself some space in the oppositions box Kane launched a powerful low drive which was thwarted excellently wide by Guzan. Kane was again desperately unlucky two minutes afterwards, he embarked on a searching run wrong footing the Villa defence only to have his shot saved by Guzan in between the villa sticks. The Spurs faithful must have been thinking it wasn’t going to be our day as the lilywhites just couldn’t make the net bulge. Half an hour in Lamela hit the woodwork after shooting first time from point blank range, the Argentine’s effort could only rattle the right hand post. However just before the referee Anthony Taylor was about to bring the first half proceedings to an end, Spurs broke the deadlock. After being played in by the intelligent Alli, Kane rolled the ball past the helpless Guzan to give the Lillywhites the lead, 1-0 Spurs!

The second half begun to an almighty roar generated from the Spurs faithful in the away end, as three minutes in Spurs had doubled their lead. Harry Kane had got his second of the game courtesy of a wonderful individual assist from Alli as the teenager released a perfectly weighted ball to the feet of Kane in the Villa box, and Kane needed no second chance as he stabbed home his 19th league goal of the season, 2-0 Spurs! On 75 minutes Erik Lamela almost sealed victory after picking up a pass in the box Lamela created some space for a shot. However the Argentina internationals effort was deflected narrowly wide of the post, leaving Guzan stationary and relieved. The lads became complacent near the end as Villa hit the woodwork on three separate occasions as they looked to spare their blushes. The first occasion was with five minutes remaining as Ayew carved his way through our defence before hitting a searing effort against the left post rebounding in to the path of the towering Gestede who thumped the ball against the crossbar. The final scare for Spurs came just before the 90 as an unmarked Joleon Lescott hit the post after being picked out from the resulting corner, another let off for the lads late on.

However we were victorious on the day as we ran out 2-0 winners in a game we were heavily expected to triumph in. We faired well against the pressure and bounced back brilliantly after Thursday weeks heartache, Dele Alli was key to our victory as I predicted in my preview. The 19 year old got two assists as he was creatively exceptional, as was Harry Kane who’s clinical finishing was superb. The Spurs icon now has 19 goals in the league this season. On a defensive note I thought Kyle Walker’s fantastically rounded performance deserved great credit! The right back was immense through out and didn’t step out of line once. It was another great team performance from a team who are trying to carve their name on English footballs premier trophy. COYS⚽️

Spurs (4-2-3-1): Lloris (c); Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose; Dier, Dembele; Lamela (Chadli 89), Alli (Mason 86), Eriksen (Carroll 78); Kane. Substitutes (not used): Vorm, Davies, Trippier, Son.

Preview: Spurs will face Aston Villa this Sunday in the West Midlands fresh from their three nil defeat against Dortmund in midweek. Pochettino’s men will be looking to bounce back with three points against a Villa side who sit rock bottom of the premier league. The villains are effectively down having accumulated only 16 points from 29 matches this season. However Remi Garde’s men will certainly be no pushovers and as always an early goal is imperative for Spurs, as the quicker the lads can put the game to bed the better, as Pochettino will have one eye fixed on our second leg encounter against Dortmund in the week. I am extremely confident that we will defeat Villa comfortably tomorrow afternoon and I believe Dele Alli will be key to carving open a fairly timid and disorderly Villa defence. COYS⚽️

Team news: Dele Alli returns to the squad after missing our Europa league game in midweek to a UEFA suspension, whilst Eric Dier also returns after being rested in midweek. It’s good news regarding Danny Rose as the left back is fit for the Villa game after the 25 year old picked up a minor injury in the north London derby. However Jan Vertonghen and Clinton Njié remain sidelined through injury. Kyle Walker and Danny Rose are likely to return to the fullback positions having not been involved in mid week.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Dembele, Dier, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.

My predicted score: 4-0 Spurs with goals from Kane x2, Alli and Son.

One to watch: Aston Villas tricky striker Jordan Ayew who scored against us this season at the lane in the reverse fixture.

Saturday’s youth report:

Under 18’s: our under 18’s disappointingly fell to a surprise three nil defeat against Sunderland earlier this morning. The young Lillywhites were defeated in the second half as the north east club went on a goal rout.

Spurs U18s: Austin, Muscatt, Brown, Owens, Mukena, Tanganga, Bennetts (Tracey 58), Roles, Sterling, Duncan (Marsh 71), Oteh (Tsaroulla 58).
Under 16’s: Our under 16’s were given an introduction to under 18 football today, as they faced Dagenham and Redbridge. However our talented pool of players were victorious against the daggers as they thrashed the east London club 5-0. The inform Reo Griffiths scored two including a delightful chip. The talented Nya Kirby scored a brace and our highly rated 15 year old midfielder Oliver Skipp scored a fantastic volley to put the icing on the cake. What makes this victory even more remarkable is the fact that there were a whole host of under 15’s in the squad including Patterson and Paris Maghoma who is only 14. A wonderful day for these youngsters who have showed excellently how physically adept they are against a strong under 18 side!

Spurs u21’s 1-2 Norwich u21’s: (match report)

Spurs u21’s 1-2 Norwich u21’s (Match report)

image.jpeg

Our under 21’s will be disappointed that they couldn’t have got something out of this evenings match at the lane against a well set up and physically challenging Norwich side, as the canaries ran out two-one winners on the night. Spurs had a golden opportunity four minutes in as Sonupe’s shot was spilt for the nimble footed Will Miller to latch on to the stray ball, off balance the youngster couldn’t look down in time and his effort was hit well over the cross bar from close range. Norwich broke the deadlock a minute later after Lewis received a fine pass and the young canaries forward tucked his finish around the helpless McDermott to give the canaries the lead, 1-0 to Norwich. Norwich dictated the flow of the game in the preceding 20 minutes, and on 26 minutes Norwich almost doubled their lead as Seal was through on goal in the area as Christian Maghoma was forced into making a crucial intervention in the box to poke the ball away from danger. However just over 10 minutes afterwards Norwich doubled their lead, Grant deliciously curled the ball beyond McDermott in to the bottom corner of the net from the resulting free kick, 2-0 Norwich.

The second half began slowly with both sides battling for possession, there were long periods in play without there being any real chances, although the young Lillywhites did enjoy fine periods of play through the skill and pace of Edwards. Norwich almost put the game to bed on 77 minutes after Seal was found via a through ball and the forward was desperately unlucky with his effort, as his shot powered off the right post. Shortly afterwards the young starlet Kyle Walker-Peters was sent of for Spurs contradictory to his fine performance the fullback received his second yellow after a strong tackle resulted in his dismissal. McDermott made a string of fine saves in the following minutes, as the talented Northern Irish man managed to keep 10 man Spurs to just the two goals conceded. The talented Marcus Edwards had created much excitement amongst the fans in the second half and the wonder kid helped Spurs grab a late goal back as he embarked on a weaving run all the way in to the Norwich box, and the England under 17 internationals shot was blocked in to the path of Miller who volleyed home with an excellent finish, Spurs 1-2!

There was to be no late equaliser in this one as it finished Norwich two Spurs one on the evening, in a game that the Spurs players should be proud of. Despite the scoreline the lads played a fine game of football against a technically good Norwich side, it will have a positive effect on the players in the long run as they played at the lane In front of a big crowd. Our lads were missing a number of regular under 21 players as they’d traveled to Dortmund with the senior side. However the numerous under 18 selections impressed on the night, and none more so than highly sought after Marcus Edwards who exhibited his dazzling skills and flare in the second half. Ugo will be happy with the performance from the lads under such circumstances as at the end of the day it’s about progress not points, and this evenings match will be highly positive for each players development. COYS⚽️

Spurs U21s: McDermott, Walker-Peters, Stylianides (Goddard 78), Lesniak, Walkes, Maghoma (Edwards 46), Sonupe, Amos, Miller, J Pritchard (Loft 54), Georgiou. Substitute (not used): Whiteman (GK).

Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Spurs: (Match report)

Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Spurs: (Match report)

image.jpeg

Our lads were defeated by Borussia Dortmund 3-0 yesterday evening at the Westfalenstadion in what was a hugely one sided affair, as the German heavyweights dismantled our young side with their technical brilliance and poetical skill. It was Die Borussen who started the match with a flourish as they dictated the tempo from the moment go as they overwhelmed us with their artistry both on and off the pitch as their fans showcased the spectacle that is the yellow wall. Dortmund almost took an early lead on seven minutes as Erik Durm received a good pass inside the box and the German decided to let fly. However, the German internationals shot flashed agonisingly wide of the right post. Dortmund again went close five minutes afterwards as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit a close range effort narrowly over the crossbar. The bombardment of chances that Dortmund were creating didn’t slow down in the preceding minutes and on 14 minutes Lloris was forced into making a fine save. The Armenian international Mkhitarayan hit a thumping effort from 25 metres out, and the alert Lloris was forced into making an excellent reflex save as the ball fell to the instinctive Aubameyang who managed to put the ball in to the back of the net. However the Gabonese international was ruled offside.

The struggling Lillywhites were unable to hold on and on the half hour mark the deadlock was broken by none over than Aubameyang. The forever threatening striker got on the end of Schmelzer’s wonderful cross and the Gabon international planted a header of exceptional precision in to the bottom right hand corner of the net, 1-0 Dortmund! We were unable to create any clear cut chances in the remaining minutes of the first half, and the lads walked down the tunnel at half time evidently relieved that it wasn’t three or four goals more to Dortmund as we were overwhelmed by their explosiveness in the first 45. The second half begun as similarly disappointing as the first for Pochetinno’s men as Dortmund almost doubled their lead. Aubameyang one on one with Lloris seemed destined to score, however his chipped effort went just wide as It fell at an awkward angle to Gonzalo Castro as he smashed the post. Spurs were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty shortly after as the skilful son was brought down forcefully in the Dortmund box by Bender. However the beautiful football that Dortmund played in the minutes after was some of the best seen in Europe all season, and on 61 minutes they reaped their rewards. Nevan Subotic knocked a deft header down to Marco Reus, and the extremely talented winger fired Dortmund into a two goal lead as he expertly volleyed the ball in to the roof of the net, 2-0 Dortmund!

Things went from bad to worse for our lads as less than 10 minutes after grabbing his first, Reus scored his second to make it three for Dortmund. The winger received a perfectly weighted cross inside the box and the German coolly slotted the ball with a side footed volley past the helpless Lloris, 3-0 to Dortmund. There were to be no more clear cut chances for either side in the remaining minutes as Dortmund won the match three nil on the night to send our lads home bitterly disappointed. It was an extremely dispiriting night for the Spurs fans as we had witnessed our high flying men be destroyed by a much better side, we were carved open from the start as Pochettino’s weakened side were unable to get a grasp on the game. Despite from an abundance of negativity that will be voiced by some fans from this game there were positives that should be highlighted. The defeat didn’t come down to a host of poor individual performances, it in fact came down to the fact that we lacked the steel and shape of a team that could deal with the tactically flawless Dortmund.

Pochettino’s selection was rightfully questioned and scrutinised by the fans as it was a much weakened side, we missed Dier’s tenaciousness in the midfield as well as Kane’s instinct and threat up front. However Alderweireld played extremely well despite the scoreline, the Belgian was omnipresent his individual performance was incredible and he was the reason that Dortmund didn’t score more. Lamela also showed great passion and hunger when he came on later in the match as did Onomah. However we are left with a humongous task next Thursday at the lane and if we are to gain anything from that match, we will need to field our strongest 11 and Dier and Dembele will be key to the scoreline in that match as well as the atmosphere generated from the White Hart lane faithful. COYS⚽️

Preview: Mauricio Pochettino’s men will face arguably their greatest test of the season when they face Dortmund this Thursday, in the round of 16 of the Europa league. Despite our exceptional triumphs this season and excellent form we will enter this tie as underdogs, with Dortmund possessing some of the finest players in Europe, hence why they are the bookmakers favourites for the competition. Dortmund’s attacking line includes two of the worlds most highly regarded players, the goal machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus a technical genius and highly creative footballer. If the lads are to have any chance of progressing in the competition then Pochettino will have to field a full strength squad, which is by no means ideal as we are battling for the league title at the same time. However, if this season has taught us something than its to expect the unexpected, and if our incredible lads were to stun the electric atmosphere of the Dortmund stadium and nick a win, then we should not be in total shock. COYS⚽️

Team news: Dele Alli is suspended for this tie after picking up the maximum amount of yellows before one is issued a one match suspension and Eric Dier has not travelled either as Pochettino rests the 22 year old. Danny Rose will be absent due to a minor injury, and the 25 year old is unlikely to travel with the squad. In addition despite very good progress and a recent return to training Clinton Njié will not be in the squad for this match. Whilst Jan Vertonghen is still recuperating from his injury. Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier are likely to start at fullback after not starting in the north London derby at the weekend whilst Son will fill in for Alli to make up the attacking three as he’ll look to use his Bundesliga experience to help defeat Dortmund on Thursday night.
My team prediction: (4-2-3-1)
Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies, Dembele, Mason, Son, Eriksen, Lamela, Kane.

My score prediction: Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Spurs with goals from Mason and Son.

One to watch: Dortmund’s lightning fast and prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Harry Winks signs new contract until 2019:

image.jpeg

It has just been officially announced that Spurs starlet Harry Winks has signed a new contract which will keep him at Spurs until 2019. The youngster from Hemel Hempstead is clearly a massive part of Pochettino’s plan as he looks to build a young squad for years to come, it is the second contract the 20 year old has signed in less than a year, after he signed one last summer along with Onomah who also was rewarded with another contract not that long ago. The talented England under 20 midfielder has made a handful of appearances this season and will be hoping to get some more game time in the coming weeks. This is great news for all associated with the club as the talented Winks is one of our best youth prospects.
