Spurs 4 Colchester United 1:

Match report: This afternoon saw us complete a triumphant 4-1 victory on a sunny winters day at the Colchester community stadium over Colchester United, to seal our place in the fifth round of the FA cup. The match started with a most unpleasant incident as Colchester’s young defender Alex Wynter was involved in a horrific collision with fellow defender Eastman, however he is alright and conscious in hospital as BBC sport have confirmed. After the injury we bombarded Colchester with a couple of fine efforts playing fast and attacking football and we were desperately unlucky not to find ourselves ahead after Lamela’s spectacular curling effort from outside the box hit the outside of the left post, after some clever foot work from the Argentinian international And a few minutes later Kieran Trippier made a surging run on the right wing before putting a beautiful ball in to the box which Harry Kane headed forcing a fine save from the Colchester goalkeeper Kean.

Half way through the first half Harry Kane found Eriksen who sprinted in to the penalty area before narrowly putting his effort over the bar. Although the deadlock was not to last, as in the 27th minute Lamela’s pass was gratefully received by Nacer Chadli who hit a powerful right-footed shot from 20 yards out that nestled perfectly in to the top corner of the net 1-0 Spurs, and we didn’t drop our attacking intensity as Trippier continued to put inch perfect crosses in to the box but it was to stay 1-0 as Michael Oliver sounded the whistle for the end of the first half.

Within the early stages of the second half we lacked the togetherness and were a little sloppy in our play, with colchester having some good chances but it wasn’t for long as we looked determined to grab a second, as Nacer Chadli demonstrated perfectly after he received a pass from Kane and turned expertly in front of the keeper but hit his shot off the cross bar as he was unbalanced whilst taking the shot. Moments after Chadli’s effort we doubled our lead after Eric Dier drove a long range strike towards the Colchester goal as it flew into the back of the net courtesy of a heavy deflection off a Colchester player. We were dominating the game, dictating the tempo and most importantly winning comfortably, but still Colchester did not succumb to our superiority with in the park and front man Marvin sordell found himself one on one with Vorm before jabbing a shot narrowly wide clipping the post as it ran across the turf. However we put the game to bed minutes afterwards as Kieran Trippier who arguably played his greatest game in a spurs shirt, sent in a wonderfully accurate cross that Nacer Chadli headed in to score his second of the game.

A mere two minutes later Colchester got themselves a consolation goal after Massey’s effort came off the post rebounding off the feet of the unfortunate Ben Davies who scored an own goal to make it 3-1. Yet in this fast moving game of football we grabbed another goal two minutes after conceding, Chadli all but confirmed he’s status as man of the match by assisting Tom Carroll who scored in the box as his effort went in off the underside of the bar to put his tally to 3 goals in all competitions this season and to wrap up another convincing victory for Spurs. Our name is already in the hat for tomorrow’s 5th round draw, it finished here 4-1 to us in a sun drenched Essex this afternoon,COYS.
