The final match of Spurs’ season takes place on Sunday afternoon at the KCOM stadium, as Mauricio Pochettino’s inform side prepare to face already relegated Hull. Fresh from their emphatic 6-1 victory over Leicester City on Thursday, Spurs will be looking to sign off their season in style in what has been a spectacular domestic campaign. Spurs travel to Yorkshire having already secured second spot, but Pochettino hasn’t rested on his laurels as he proved in the week with a strong team selection against Leicester. In fact there’s a still a lot at stake, Harry Kane could retain the golden boot come Sunday evening, Lloris could still win the golden glove, and Spurs could end the season on a phenomenal tally of 86 points, their best of the premier league era. Marco Silva’s side have nothing to lose going into tomorrows game, their standout players include striker Baye Oumar Niasse, former Spurs legend Michael Dawson and winger Kamil Grosicki. I can’t see a repeat of last years final day performance against Newcastle, I’m confident that Pochettino’s side will end the season in style with a victory over the tigers. COYS

Team news: Erik Lamela, Danny Rose and Harry Winks are all out injured whilst captain Hugo Lloris is an injury doubt, as too is right back Kyle Walker. However, Kieran Trippier is in contention again, after returning to full training on Friday after suffering a concussion against Manchester United. It is likely Pochettino will experiment with his squad for Sunday’s game, and there could be a chance that some more youth players get some action. Filip Lesniak who made his debut as an 86th minute substitute against Leicester, could well feature again after an impressive cameo. I’m also hoping to see Spurs starlet Samuel Shashoua feature, Shashoua featured on the bench against Leicester. It will also be interesting to see if young striker Kazaiah Sterling makes the bench, Sterling was part of the squad that travelled to Leicester in the week.

My predicted lineup: Vorm, Alderweireld, Dier, Wimmer, Trippier, Wanyama, Alli, Davies, Eriksen, Son, Kane.

My predicted score line: 4-0 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Kane x2, Alli and Samuel Shashoua.

One to watch: Hull striker Baye Oumar Niasse.

A piece on Spurs debutant Filip Lesniak:

Last nights exhilarating match, which saw Spurs thrash Leicester City 6-1 in the penultimate game of the Lillywhites season, saw manager Mauricio Pochettino name two youth players on the bench for the first time in their Spurs careers. Highly skilful 18 year old winger Samuel Shashoua and 21 year old defensive midfielder Filip Lesniak were the two academy players to be rewarded with a place on the bench after a successful season for the pair. Slovakian midfielder Filip Lesniak was brought on to replace midfielder Mousa Dembele in the 86th minute, and the holding midfielder impressed fans during his short time on the pitch. Lesniak made the dream start on his Spurs debut assisting Harry Kane for his hat trick shortly after coming on, and the midfielder who has been a regular in the under 23’s/21’s over the past couple of seasons, showed no signs that he was fazed by the task in front of him. I was very proud of Lesniak last night, after having watched him many times for our youth teams over the past couple of seasons, it was great to see the 21 year old feature for Pochettino’s senior side. Lesniak is player who I’ve always liked, a hardworking and tenacious holding midfielder, Lesniak joined Spurs’ academy in the summer of 2012. And has since gone on to make many appearances for our various youth sides, born in Kosice, Slovakia. Lesniak is the grandson of Slovakian national team manager Jan Kozak, and the midfielder has gone on to represent his country on many occasions at youth level. He joined Czech side Slovan Liberec on a short loan spell during the early parts of the season before returning to train with our development squad.

Of the many times that I’ve seen Lesniak for our development squad, not once have I seen him have a bad game. Lesniak is a holding midfielder, whose tidy and efficient in the centre of the park, he breaks up play and does the under appreciated sides of the game. He is an old school holding midfielder, he doesn’t do any flashy skills or tricks, he keeps it simple, passing it to the nearest player up field. I’ve always thought he’s been an bit underrated, but it’s not surprising to me that Pochettino sees something in him. He’s an incredibly hard worker, he covers vast amounts of ground and that is something that Pochettino likes in his players. A defensive stalwart, Lesniak is also capable of playing at centre half, which he has demonstrated on numerous occasions over the past few seasons. Lesniak was a key feature in the late Ugo Ehiogu’s under 21 side and its worth noting the effect that Ehiogu has had on his development. Lesniak shows great maturity and discipline, he reminds me a bit of Winks and Benjamin Stambouli in many ways in regards to his style of play. It’s great to see this talented midfielder given his chance in the first team, I’m hoping it won’t be the last we see of him in a Spurs shirt. His current contract expires at the end of next month but I just can’t see Pochettino giving a would be released player his debut, I’m hoping to see Filip involved again in our final game of the season against Hull on Sunday. Lesniak could prove to be a very useful player over the next couple of seasons for the Lillywhites.
Some player reviews of mine, from games Lesniak has been involved in this season:

– Versus Leicester city under 23’s – Filip Lesniak: Made some good challenges in what was a hardworking but tough performance.
– Versus Everton under 23’s: Lesniak had a brilliant game in the centre of park, flawless and as efficient as ever, he covered a lot of ground and won the praises of Ehiogu.

A performance of sheer brilliance from Pochettino’s confident Spurs side, saw the Lillywhites tear last seasons title winners Leicester City apart on their own back yard, in what was one of the most exhilarating and complete performances of a tremendous season for Spurs. A remarkable performance from Harry Kane which saw him bag four goals! And a brace for Son Heung-Min saw Spurs win with an emphatic 6-1 victory over the foxes. The first half was one of the most complete halves of the season for Spurs, their attacking brilliance and free flowing style of play tore the foxes defence to shreds, there was no hangover from last Sunday’s victory in the final game at White Hart Lane. Pochettino’s side were sharp, stylish and hungry, they oozed with class from the minute go. Spurs were playing with even more creative freedom than usual, which was clear to see in the opening minutes with Son and Kane both going close to opening the lead after some nice attacking football. Spurs were incisive and were constantly looking to run at the Leicester defence, it was no surprise when we took the lead through Harry Kane on 25 minutes. In what was a lovely bit of play, Son played a clever cut back from the wing, into the feet of Kane who slotted the ball home, 1-0 Spurs. Spurs were brimming with confidence and a second goal duly followed nine minutes later through a wonderfully worked goal. It came after some great link up play with Dele Alli, the England international delightfully chipping the ball through to Son who swivelled inside the box before volleying the ball home, to put Spurs into a comfortable two goal lead into the interval.

IMG_2801.JPG

The home side grabbed a goal back on the hour mark through young left back Ben Chilwell, who managed to take control of the ball after a last ditch clearance from Lloris. Chilwell tucked the ball home despite the best efforts of Jan Vertonghen on the line, 2-1. We soon found our way back into the game, getting our third through Harry Kane just four minutes after Leicesters goal. Alderweireld’s cross being met by Wanyama who headed the ball across goal to Kane who comfortably nodded the ball home. We put the game to bed a couple of minutes later when Son got his second of the game after a wonderful solo effort. Son showed great feet as he managed to turn the ball on to his right foot before curling a long range effort low into the far corner of the net, 4-1. Kane then got an emphatic hat trick on 89 minutes, after being set up by debutant Filip Lesniak, Kane decided to let fly from 18 yards, with the ball nestling into the back of the net. Deep into stoppage time Harry Kane put the icing on the cake with his fourth of the game in a goal that was similar to the previous one, putting Spurs 6-1 ahead. The final score Spurs 6-1 Leicester, a remarkable game from Pochettino’s sparkling side, they were simply unstoppable. We may not have won the league, but we have without doubt played the most entertaining football in the league this season. We play our final game of the season away to already relegated Hull on Sunday afternoon. COYS

Additional notes: A big congratulations to Filip Lesniak who made his Spurs debut against Leicester. It was also great to see talented 18 year old winger Samuel Shashoua make the bench, whilst young striker Kazaiah Sterling was also part of the travelling squad.

Player review: – Hugo Lloris: Another good performance from Lloris who made four saves against the foxes.
– Toby Alderweireld: As composed and as effective as ever, a fine performance from the Belgian centre half.
– Eric Dier: I thought Dier had an excellent performance, he made some vital blocks and was so tidy throughout the game.
– Jan Vertonghen: Arguably our player of the season, Vertonghen was solid and decisive in his decision making.
– Moussa Sissoko: Though lacking in confidence I thought Sissoko was defensively sound at right wing back.
– Victor Wanyama: Masterful performance from Wanyama who dominated the centre of the park.
– Mousa Dembele: Was as sharp and as influential as ever despite missing the last few games through injury.
– Ben Davies: Really good defensive performance from Davies who also got the assist for Kane’s fourth goal.
– Son: So effective, Son was very creative, his two goals being testament to his wonderful performance. Son now has 20 goals this season!
– Dele: Showed brilliant feet with some lovely silky skills, also assisted Son for his first of the night.
– Harry Kane: Words cannot do justice to describe how fantastic Harry Kane was in his four goal game, against Leicester!
– Filip Lesniak: Really positive debut for the 21 year old academy player, Lesniak looked very comfortable during the couple of minutes that he played, and he also managed to set up the goal for Kane’s hat trick.
– Vincent Janssen: Done a decent job when coming on, held up the ball well and looked a threat.

My man on the match: The incredible four goal Harry Kane, who wowed the King Power stadium with an exceptional performance. Kane is now the top scorer in the premier league with 26 goals!

Spurs’ encounter with Leicester City on Thursday night is Pochettino’s sides penultimate game of a very successful premier league season. Pochettino’s side travel to the King Power stadium on the back of an emotional 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the final ever game at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Following the Lillywhites victory over Manchester United, Spurs have secured second spot and cannot move up or down the premier league table, theres no pressure on Spurs ahead of tonight’s match. Nor is there any pressure on the hosts who sit comfortably in 11th position, but manager Craig Shakespeare has made his intentions known, saying: “When you come up against a team of Tottenham’s quality and our desire to win a game, we should be in for an interesting game.” The foxes are without six first team players for today’s game, including defenders Robert Huth and Wes Morgan who were an integral part of their title winning side of last season. Meanwhile I’m expecting Pochettino to rotate his side against Leicester, and I’m expecting him to give a couple of youth players a chance. We want to end this wonderful season in style and two victories from our last two matches would cap off a brilliant league campaign. With quality attacking players such as Mahrez and Vardy Leicester will give us a tough game with the King Power stadium becoming a fortress under Shakespeare, with the foxes being unbeaten at home since he took over. I’m looking forward to this game and I’m hoping that our quality will shine through against the team that won the league over us last season. COYS

Team news: Eric Dier will likely fill in at right back following the news that both Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier will be unavailable for today’s game. Danny Rose, Erik Lamela and Harry Winks are all ruled out for the season and won’t feature, whilst Josh Onomah, Kyle Walker-Peters and Cameron Carter-Vickers are all on international duty with their respective countries. With this being a bit of a dead rubber, I’m expecting Pochettino to give some of our talented academy players the chance to feature against the Foxes. Im predicting at least two to be named on the bench, with the most likely candidates being Luke Amos, Shayon Harrison and Filip Lesniak. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see talented 18 year old striker Kazaiah Sterling make the bench. This game will also give the chance for Pochettino to involve some of his players who are on the fringes of the squad.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lloris (C), Dier, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Davies, Wanyama, Sissoko, Nkoudou, Alli, Son, Kane.

My predicted score line: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Sissoko, Kane and Alli.

One to watch: The highly skilful winger Riyad Mahrez.

My thoughts on the Lane finale:

My thoughts on the Lane finale:

IMG_2770.JPG

Sunday was without doubt the most emotional game I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching, Spurs needed just a point to secure second place in what was their last ever game at White Hart Lane (our home since 1899). Pochettino’s side signed off their 118 year stay at their iconic ground with a stylish and typically Spurs like display to round off a memorable 2-1 victory over Manchester United at the Lane finale. The players were greeted to a raucous reception, as the Spurs supporters waved a swarm of flags to mark the occasion, it was quite possibly the loudest White Hart Lane has been this century! The game started with a confident Spurs side looking to rise to the occasion, and it didn’t take long until Pochettino’s side got the party started. A delightful cross into the box on six minutes from Ben Davies was met in the air by the rising Victor Wanyama who powered a superb header past De Gea and into top left hand corner of the net, sending the Lane into delirium. Harry Kane netted his 22nd goal of the season from an Eriksen freekick to secure the points in the second half, with Wayne Rooney’s late goal proving only to be a consolation goal for the visitors, as Spurs bowed out with an emphatic victory. It was another trademark performance from Pochettino’s wonderful side, they outclassed a negative and defensive Man united side to secure their first second place finish since the 1962-63 season. It was the complete send off for Spurs’ much loved stadium of 118 years.

It was yet another stunning display from Spurs, they didn’t let Chelseas title clinching victory on Friday damage their mentality, they came out and performed superbly just like they have done for the most part of the season. The atmosphere on the terraces was something special. I am sure that every Spurs fan who had the privilege to be there will never forget this day. The last 5 minutes for me as a Spurs fan will live with me forever. Whilst counting down the clock to the final whistle, hoping we could hang on to a last final victory, it did not seem to matter what happened really. It was the occasion that really mattered. As we all waved our flags in the last few moments, no one really looked at the action, it was to all Spurs fans in attendance about the end of an era.

The time has come for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side, for one final time Spurs will play at White Hart Lane in what will be a highly emotional match on Sunday afternoon. Spurs face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side who currently occupy sixth spot, and the Portuguese manger has already made it know that his priority is the UEFA Europa League over the premier league. After Chelsea won the league title on Friday night, our priority remains on securing second place and we only need one point from our last three league games to secure that feat for the first time since the 1962-63 season under the legendary Bill Nicholson. What we have achieved under Pochettino this season has been nothing less than miraculous, we have massively overachieved for a second successive season and we have the opportunity to cap off a wonderful season with victory over Man United at the Lane finale. There will be a memorable post match celebration of Spurs’ much cherished stadium, but the focus for Spurs will be on giving the Lane a fitting send off. Man United have had quite a strange season, their still in the race for fourth spot, but Mourinho has prioritised the Europa League final against Ajax, which will likely result in Mourinho fielding a weakened squad for the trip to the Lane. You can’t help but be confident for Spurs, but we know just how hard an opposition Man united can be, with their rigorous and highly structured defence. With players of the ilk of Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford, the Red Devil’s will be a potent side. However, tomorrow is about our beloved stadium and I am wholly confident that our players will rise to the challenge. COYS

Team news: Apart from the two absentees Harry Winks and Erik Lamela (who are out for the season) there are not a lot of of injury concerns. It is highly unlikely whether Danny Rose will make his comeback from injury against United, after he resumed full time training with the first team squad. Meanwhile Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers are away on international duty at the under 20 World Cup (in Japan) with their respective countries.

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris (C), Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Walker, Wanyama, Eriksen, Davies, Son, Alli, Kane.

My score prediction: An emphatic 4-0 victory for Spurs courtesy of goals from Harry Kane x2, Son and Alli.

One to watch: The experienced and energetic forward, England international Wayne Rooney’s quality should never be underestimated and he will be a real source of danger tomorrow.

An ode to White Hart Lane:

An ode to White Hart Lane:

IMG_2744.JPG

Since 1899 White Hart Lane has opened its doors to generations of Tottenham Hotspur supporters, but on Sunday it will open for one final time. With Spurs’ premier league clash with Manchester United the last ever game to be played at our cherished ground, at least in its current form. Since my first visit to the Lane, I knew it was special and I’m not just saying that because I’m an ardent Spurs supporter. The Lane is intimidating with its compactness, its closeness to the pitch, all give it that old fashioned feel. My first match at White Hart Lane was a 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on the final day of the 2003/04 season, the game itself was won by a Jermain Defoe goal on 18 minutes, but it was my first impressions of the ground that still have an effect on me to this present day. I’ve been lucky enough to attend hundreds of matches at the Lane since, from 3-2 defeats to Charlton to 3-0 victories over Manchester United, I’ve enjoyed my fair share of emotions. Every time I take to my seat, whether it be in a London Derby or an under 23 game, I always think of the legends past who have played on the same pitch, from Arthur Grimsdell to Danny Blanchflower and Ossie Ardilles, you can feel the rich history that this compact 31,000 seater stadium has witnessed over the years. Designed by the renowned architect Archibald Leitch in 1909, White Hart Lane has seen significant changes to its ground over the decades, but whilst it has been modernised it has never lost its unique identity, passion and world famous atmosphere.

Whilst we are only moving away from N17 for a season, when we return in 2018 the ground will be completely transformed. Those glorious memories of the Lane, from the greats of the 1960/61 double winning side to the dramatic 1984 UEFA cup final, will never be forgotten. This stadium has been people’s lives, from the staff that have worked their to the loyal supporters that have spent a life time going to the Lane, it’s been much more than just a venue. It’s been a home from home, it will go down in history as one of the most iconic grounds the world has ever seen. Going into White Hart Lane is like stepping into the past, Sunday will be a very emotional day for all connected with Spurs, it’s the end of an era, but it’s just the start of a bright exciting journey that will see Spurs return of those glory, glory days! Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters named in England under 20’s squad for the under 20 World Cup:

img_2406

Two of our brightest youth prospects have been named in England’s under 20 squad ahead of the FIFA under 20 World Cup which begins on the 20th may in South Korea. Talented midfielder Josh Onomah (20) who has featured on several occasions for Pochettino’s side this season, and the immensely talented right back Kyle Walker-Peters (20) has also been called up by head coach Paul Simpson. The annual tournament, sees England drawn in group A alongside host nation South Korea, Argentina and Guinea. If England reach the final of the competition it would see the Spurs duo involved until the 11th June. It’s a brilliant opportunity for the pair to show their qualities on the international stage for their country, in what is an incredibly talented pool of England players. I wish Josh and Kyle the very best of luck for the tournament, I shall be closely following England’s progress in the competition.

My thoughts on Spurs’ defeat to West Ham: one game does not make a season!

My thoughts on Spurs’ defeat to West Ham: one game does not make a season!

IMG_2698

Suggestions that Spurs ‘bottled it’ after last nights 1-0 defeat to West Ham are completely absurd, Pochettino’s side fell to their first league defeat in 10 matches after losing 1-0 to Slavan Bilic’s West Ham side. It was a game in which Pochettino’s players knew they had to win, a fiercely contested London Derby which would push them to the limits both physically and mentally. The hammers parked the bus from the minute go, their ultra defensive style of play strangling our creativity across the park. Bilic had his side incredibly well structured, their objective was simply to nick a winner on the counter attack. It became evident from the opening stages of the game that Spurs weren’t as sharp as normal, our intensity seemed to be lacking against a side that was very much up for it. West Ham managed to carve a couple of dangerous openings to no avail, whilst Spurs struggled to create barely anything at the other end. Neither side had control of the game, Pochettino’s team looking exhausted from the exerting north London Derby the following Sunday. But they still looked as if they’d grow into the game, the reality was that we were deeply missing the creative spark that is Mousa Dembele, who was once again named on the bench. We were struggling to get the ball to Kane who would be met by two West Ham players upon every opportunity. Our attack may not have dazzled during the game, but it was our unusually nervy defence that was the real cause for concern.

Manuel Lanzini scored what would prove to be the winner on 65 minutes in what was a slightly fortuitous goal for the Argentine. West Ham deserved their victory they were the better side at the end of the day, we may well have dominated possession and had 11 attempts on goal but Spurs just weren’t creative enough, they’d ran out of energy, which is hardly surprising considering the run they’ve been on. No team in this league can sustain that high pressing style of play for the whole season, it’s simply not possible. We were always going to lose one of our remaining games before the end of the season, and unfortunately it happened in a crucial London Derby. Yes Pochettino’s players were at fault barring Eric Dier who I thought played very well, but they’d been on an astonishing run of winning 9 league matches in a row, they’ve created memories that will last a life time. Every Spurs fans knows this is just the beginning of an exciting long term project, financially we have no right to be challenging for the league, the fact that we’re miles ahead of clubs like Man City and Man united just goes to show the incredible work that Pochettino is doing at this club. This team hasn’t ‘bottled’ anything, we’re one of the most exciting teams in the world, we’ve just three games left to secure a second place finish, the title race may be all but over. However, our glory, glory years are fast approaching. Let’s make next Sunday’s last ever game at White Hart Lane, one that no one will ever forget. COYS

Us Spurs fans may have only just gotten our breath back from Sunday’s thrilling north London Derby, but our players have no time to rest, Pochettino’s side are in action on Friday night as they visit West Ham United. The match which is the first West Ham, Spurs match at the London stadium, is yet another crucial London Derby. Win it, and Spurs go within a point of league leaders Chelsea who play on Monday, anything other than a win and the title race is all but over. However, Pochettino’s inform side won’t be focusing on that, there aim is purely to win every game and their doing a brilliant job of that at the minute. Meanwhile the hammers have a very different end of season objective, Slaven Bilic’s side who currently occupy 15th place will be wanting to end the season strongly, and they’ll need no incentive when they face us on Friday night. West Ham have struggled in their inaugural season at the London stadium, their form has been erratic, but it’s worth noting that they lost their best player Dmitri Payet during the recent transfer window. On paper we should win but we all know what can happen in derby matches, if we can replicate that intensity and attacking brilliance that we have shown over the past 10 matches, then I can see no other winner. Pochettino’s side must stay focused, the hammers can cause us problems just like they done in the reverse fixture at the Lane, which we won in dramatic circumstances. If target man Andy Carroll is fit to face us, Alderweireld and Vertonghen will have their work cut out if they are to stop one of the leagues best headers of a ball. Danger will also come through the already highlighted Manuel Lanzini, as well as through Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew.

You can’t help but feel confident going into tonight’s game, we just need to keep on going, there’s just four games remaining. COYS!

Team news: Harry Winks, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Erik Lamela remain sidelined through injury, whilst Danny Rose is still recovering from his injury. The big team news will be surrounding Kyle Walker starting, Walker has been dropped for our last two matches and has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs during the week.

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen,Dier, Walker, Dembele, Wanyama, Davies, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

My predicted score: 4-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Kane x2, Eriksen and Son.

One to watch: The highly creative Argentine, Manuel Lanzini. The attacking midfielder has seven league goals and two assists this season.
