Shayon Harrison: Tottenham’s striking starlet

Shayon Harrison created much excitement amongst the Spurs faithful last week after he netted a hat-trick against Sunderland under 21’s at White Hart lane. Harrison’s highly impressive performance generated a roar of excitement on social media, as many Spurs fans were eager to see Shayon in the first team in the near future, with some even comparing him to Tottenham’s star man Harry Kane. A prolific scorer at both under 18 and under 21 level for Spurs, with Harrison being a star performer for Spurs across the various youth levels. The nimble footed centre forward who is also highly athletic, as well as being very clinical in front of goal, has many great offensive abilities. With his great movement making him extremely potent in the centre of attack, it’s Shayon’s all round ability that is extremely impressive for a man of only 18 years of age. Harrison demonstrated his all round striking ability in his man of the match display against Sunderland under 21’s last week, as Harrison scored a hat-trick in stunning fashion, with the youngster showcasing three highly impressive attributes of his game with in the three goals. Firstly Harrison showed great positioning, as was evident in the first goal as he tucked away from close range after a mishap occurred in Sunderland’s defence. In addition, Shayon also exhibited a great aerial ability as he planted his second of the night in to the bottom right hand corner of the net and thirdly Harrison showed that he has a magnificent shot at his disposal, as he expertly fired his third of the night beyond the Sunderland keeper to secure victory. Furthermore his third goal of the night also showed how very good Harrison’s footwork was, as his dribbling and close ball control played an imperative part in his goal.

I have seen Harrison play on numerous occasions over past the few seasons for both the under 18’s and under 21’s and I have been extremely impressed with the 18 year old striker, and I thoroughly believe that with all his key attributes and skill that he will become a top striker at Spurs in the future. Furthermore Pochettino is also a big fan of Harrison and in a press conference last year he mentioned Harrison and young forward Kazaiah Sterling as having a great future at the north London club. Harrison is undoubtedly one of Tottenham’s hottest youth prospects and its no wonder that he has highly impressed Pochettino as he has continually shown a great strike rate throughout his time at the club, as well as this season were despite having been injured for a while, the determined Harrison has again produced an impressive amount of goals the under 21’s. Tomorrow night Spurs under 21’s play Manchester United at the lane and Harrison will no doubt be looking to add to his current tally, in what is the under 21’s last game of the premier league season. As Harrison continues to rapidly develop, his chances of making his first team debut become ever closer, and hopefully he shall make his senior next season at the high flying Lillywhites.

George Hunt: An unsung hero of the lane

Facts:
– Born in Mexborough, Yorkshire in 1910.
– Hunt is Tottenham’s sixth all time top scorer with 136 goals in 198 games for the Lillywhites.
– Hunt became the first ever player to move from Spurs to Arsenal in 1937.
– Hunt scored three hat-tricks for Spurs in six games, in March of 1934.
– Hunt ran a car wash department in Bolton after he retired from the game.

If I were to ask 100 Spurs fans who our sixth all time top scorer is, very few would say George Hunt, in fact a fair few of those Spurs fans would probably have never heard of the Tottenham goal machine. George Samuel Hunt was born on the 22nd of February 1910 in Mexborough just outside the city of Rotherham in Yorkshire. The five foot eight inch striker started out at Chesterfield in the 1929-30 season, and the Yorkshireman finished the season at Saltergate with an impressive total of nine goals from 14 appearances. Hunt was given the nickname ‘the Chesterfield tough’ by the fans because of his powerful and pacy displays on the pitch however, in the summer of 1930 Arsenal and Spurs battled it out for the acquisition of the promising young striker. Although it was the Lillywhites that Hunt chose and over the preceding seven seasons, Hunt accumulated a remarkable tally of 138 goals from 198 games for the north London club. Furthermore, Hunt’s prolificness helped Spurs get promoted back into the old first division. The Yorkshireman’s style of play is in fact similar to that of the late Bobby Smith and also our current Spurs star Harry Kane, in the sense that Hunt shared both the centre forwards high energy rates and strong physical build in which made him so potent and hard to shrug off the ball.

Hunt adjusted slowly to life at the lane however he was still scoring the goals although he ultimately couldn’t regain his prolificness in his debut season in which Spurs failed to win promotion. However, in the following seasons at Spurs Hunt Sparkled hitting the back of the net nearly every weekend. The pace in which the centre forward possessed became such a problem for opposition defenders that it resulted in him getting bashed about as they tried all they could do to halt him from scoring. George Hunt was formidable during his time at Tottenham in many ways he was their hero, although he is not as well remembered as someone like Bobby Smith or Jimmy Greaves. I personally believe that is down to the fact that Spurs had yet to endure club glory at that stage in the league. After seven incredible seasons Hunt controversially left Spurs to join Arsenal in October of 1937, and in doing so became the first ever player to go from Spurs to Arsenal. However Hunt’s time at Highbury was far from successful with the forward only managing 3 goals from 21 games. Nonetheless the Gunners won the league that season and Hunt got the winners medal that he deserved.

The Spurs great played for Bolton before ending his career at Sheffield Wednesday in the late 1940’s, he then went on to coach the famous Bolton side of 1958 the year in which they won the FA Cup. Hunt stayed at the Lancashire club for a decade before retiring in 1968, he went on to run a car wash department in Bolton. George Hunt passed away in 1996 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, he was one of he finest strikers of his generation and arguably one of the greatest Spurs players to ever grace the White Hart lane pitch. He created a fantastic impact and legacy at Spurs as he restored our pride at the club through a tough patch in their history, Hunt should be fondly remembered from all at Tottenham Hotspur, he was without doubt a Tottenham Hotspur legend.

Joshua Onomah: Our local wonder kid

– Born in Enfield, London.
– Position: midfielder (CAM)
– Onomah is an academy graduate at Spurs.
– Josh made his first team debut in the FA cup against Burnley in January of last year.
– Joshua was part of the young lions side that won the UEFA under 17 championship in 2014.
– Joshua is also eligible to represent Nigeria and Ghana at international level.
– Joshua has supported Spurs all his life

Joshua Onomah has been the most recent of our academy graduates to have burst on to the scene this season for the senior side, and the Enfield born teenager who has made 18 appearances this season is one of the most exciting young English prospects in the premier league. The 18 year old can play as a centre attacking midfielder, as well as a winger. The nimble footed Joshua has a great dribbling ability which makes him a fullbacks worst nightmare on the wing, in addition Onomah also possess great pace and strength. This combination of attributes resembles a young Paul Pogba, who is now one of the finest midfielders in the world. Furthermore, Onomah’s pace, strength and trickery practised behind the striker again show likeness to Paul Pogba’s offensive talents. Joshua shone throughout last years FA youth cup campaign with Spurs, and the youngsters performances generated much excitement amongst the Tottenham crowd, as well as from Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine was so impressed with Onomah that he awarded the, then 17 year old his debut in the Fa cup third round against Burnley at the lane, in which Onomah sparkled. As he showcased his trickery and flair with supreme confidence impressing the Spurs faithful on the night.

Onomah has since gone on to make a whole host of appearances for the Lillywhites this season across a variety of competitions as Pochettino looks to nurture the teenager into a star player. Onomah’s greatest performance came against Monaco at the lane in a game in which he played the full 90, Onomah gave the experienced Monaco defence a torrid time as he bossed the final third with both his power and creativity. Joshua has also highly impressed across the England youth set up, representing the three lions through out the different youth levels, he is currently a star player for Aidy Boothroyd’s under 19 side. I strongly believe that Onomah will continue to progress for the Lillywhites over the coming seasons under the great guidance of Mauricio Pochettino and the famed Spurs coaching set up. The Enfield born teenager has the ability to become one of the finest Spurs attackers in a generation and I have no doubt that he can fill those boots with ease as we continue to watch one of England’s hottest youth prospects grow with a flourish.

Tom Glover:Tottenham’s rising star.

Tom Glover:Tottenham’s rising star.

Facts:
– Born in Sydney, Australia
– Position: Goalkeeper
– Previous club: Sutherland Sharks
– Pat Jennings highly recommended Glover to Spurs after seeing him in action.
– Tom was an eager basketball player at school.

Tom Glover has starred for our under 21’s throughout their current campaign this season, and his talent has got many a Spurs fan highly excited over the young Australian prospect. The club have also been evidently pleased with Glovers rapid progression this season, as Tom has been present with the first team in training throughout the season. Furthermore, the Australian youth international has also been included in the first team squad as a number three on many an occasion this season. Tom joined our academy on a full time basis in the summer of 2014, and the Australian has Impressed in every youth level that he has played in, most notably the under 21’s, where this season he has been considered by many as the teams number one choice in between the sticks. The 18 year old stands at a towering six foot, four inches. In addition the intimidating goalkeeper Glover possesses lighting fast reflexes, as well as exhibiting fantastic composure in play.

I have seen Glover play for our under 18’s and under 21’s on numerous occasions and I have been extremely impressed with what I have seen from the youngster, in fact I believe his goalkeeping resembles our current captain Hugo Lloris in the sense that he shares many attributes with the French star. For example Glover shares the rapid and sharp reactions of Lloris as well as the Frenchman’s superb reading of the game. Our under 21’s played Liverpool earlier in the season at the Amex stadium where Glover made a string of astonishing saves most notably one akin to the famous Gordan Banks save against Pele. On this occasion the ball seemed to be hitting the back of the net after being powerfully headed down by the Liverpool forward, but Glover astounded the fans in the stadium by somehow being able to get down and make the save in what was a truly exceptional piece of goalkeeping. Furthermore the sharpness and incredible focus in Glovers game has been converted by the youngster to make him a penalty saving specialist, with him saving numerous penalties in the 2014/15 season for the under 18’s.

Under the guidance of Spurs goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and the influence of Hugo Lloris, this huge prospect could become the Spurs number one in the future as well as a star for the Soceroos, remember the name!

– Born in Chuncheon,South Korea
– Position:forward
– After signing for Spurs last summer for £22 million,Son became the most expensive Asian footballer in history
– Previous clubs: FC Seoul,Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen
– Son’s father also played football professionally, Son Woong-Jung was capped at international level for South Korea, he has since gone on to become a manager.

Son Heung-Min’s signing for us in late August of 2015 provided much excitement amongst the Tottenham faithful, as we had acquired one of the hottest young talents in German football. Son who is a versatile attacker can shoot equally as well with either foot, his searing pace and incredible long shooting ability made him formidable for Bayer Leverkusen over the last few seasons. Son netted on 29 occasions in 87 matches for Leverkusen in his stint at the Bundesliga club. Son quickly won over the fans at the lane after making his home debut against Qarabağ FK in the Europa league, Son scored 2 as he exhibited his sharpness and clinical nature,his eagerness to shoot pleased the crowd as it marked a dream debut for the South Korean. Three days after his brace Son hit again, netting the winner against Crystal Palace in the league and over the next couple of games his performances had the fans in high morale as they realised we had yet another proven goalscorer at our club. However injuries have somewhat blighted Son’s recent progress at the club, having missed a month through injury, his sharpness has slightly depreciated as to has his goal scoring account.He has barely completed the full 90 minutes of a game over the last few months, yet there a good signs that he is beginning to regain his form. Son netted two vital goals,against Watford in the league he converted with an audacious back heel in the 87th minute and against Leicester in the FA cup where he fired us into the lead with an exceptionally powerful shot. Pochettino spoke phlegmatically of his striking options,as the recent January transfer window provided many a rumour of a striker being signed, Pochettino noted Son’s goal scoring ability and of him being more than capable to score over the coming months as he re-emphasised the fact that we didn’t need to sign a striker.

I also share Pochettino’s view on the striking situation as I believe Son is a highly effective goal scorer and that he provides something the squad as a whole lacks, which is pace. Son possesses an abundance of pace along with his close ball control he fits perfectly into the role of a winger left or right and the role of an attacking midfielder and if needed he can also play as a centre forward which he is as equally adept to. Son has all the qualities to become a star at Spurs he is still only 23, he will continue to develop and his first season in the premier league will provide him with an invaluable amount of experience, he may not be firing on all four cylinders at present. However, I thoroughly believe he will flourish in the near future for Spurs he is certainly a player of champions league pedigree and we should be extremely grateful that we have him on our books and hats off to Pochettino,Levy and Mitchell for acquiring the South Korean forward who will again be looking to make an impact in our pivotal match against Manchester City on Sunday.COYS⚽️

Kevin Wimmer;our commanding and composed centre back:

– Position:Centre back
– Kevin was awarded his first senior cap for Austria against USA in 2013
– Previous clubs: FC Köln and LASK Linz
– His first sporting passion was skiing and he won junior ski races.

Since arriving in north London from FC Köln last summer for a fee of £4.3 million pounds, the Austrian internationals game time had been limited to cup games. However, the 24 year old was thrown right in to the mix after the unfortunate injury of fellow key performer Jan Vertonghen in our recent match at Crystal Palace, and since Vertonghen’s injury Kevin Wimmer’s presence in the defence has been immense. With his excellent long ball passing and utterly complete defensive displays, Wimmer possesses all the key attributes that a top class centre back has. In addition his composure and intelligence are of the highest quality, as well as his decisiveness,his interceptions and challenges exhibit the sheer class the Austrian has. Although Wimmer’s natural position is at centre back he can also play at left back, with his physical presence and pace he is hard to shrug off the ball.A prime example of this was against Watford where the inform striker Odion Igalho was unable to get a shot on goal as Wimmer expertly dealt with the striker, overwhelming him with his strength and superb positioning.

Wimmer doesn’t try and be too clever whilst he has the ball at his feet he plays it away from danger or puts a searching long ball forward to the attack, his style of play in fact is similar to his teammate Toby Alderweireld and they follow the main principles of defence. The slightly older and more experienced Alderweireld will provide Kevin with an invaluable influence as it will contribute heavily to his development. It will be intriguing to see how Wimmer faces up against the wizardry of Sergio Aguero in next weeks clash against Man City,the Austrian is definitely capable of controlling Aguero and limiting his opportunities however hard it may be. The 6 foot 1 inch defender may turn out to be one of our best signings in years, he has fantastic technical abilities that will continue to grow, and he’s at the best club for his development and future successes, he is yet another excellent signing that Pochettino has made, and our defence is looking as solid as can be. Furthermore the Austrian’s form and rise up the ranks will probably cement his place in Austria’s squad for Euro 2016.
