Spurs versus Bournemouth: (match preview)

Tomorrow lunchtime Spurs host Bournemouth at the Lane, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea to just four points. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side come to north London having drawn their last three outings, including impressive draws with Manchester United and Liverpool. The cherries sit in 15th position, seven points adrift of the danger zone but with survival still not a mathematical certainty, Howe’s side will be eager to pick up a point against the Lillywhites when they face them on Saturday. However we’re in red hot form coming into this game and a victory would equal our record of 12 home league wins, that recording stretching all the way back to the 1920’s. Bournemouth are in some ways similar to us, they play fearless attacking football with a flair to their game, they press high and have a great work ethic and it is no surprise that Mauricio Pochettino, said that he enjoys to watch the cherries in action. Whilst former Manchester United man Josh King is in scintillating form with 10 goals from his last 11 matches, I feel as if the danger will come from Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere in the middle of the park with his his defence splitting passing, whilst the searing pace of Ryan Fraser will have Kyle Walker busy down the right flank. We have no choice but to win as far as the title race is concerned, though our opposition will provide a much tougher test than Watford did last week. I’m predicting a tough game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men but one that I still can still only see ending in victory for the Lillywhites. I shall have a match report of tomorrow afternoons game published by late afternoon. COYS!
Team news: Harry Winks, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela are all ruled out, whilst Michel Vorm and Cameron Carter-Vickers are injury doubts ahead of Saturday lunchtimes game. With Harry Kane in contention for a first start in over a month and Victor Wanyama reportedly set to return in midfield, its hard to know what formation Pochettino will line up in. After all he surely couldn’t drop the inform Son to opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation?

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris, Dier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Walker, Dier, Dembele, Davies, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.

A pre match read: My article on the inform Son Heung-Min. https://superhotspur.com/2017/04/09/here-comes-the-son-son-continues-to-improve-in-his-second-season-at-the-lillywhites/

My predicted score : Spurs 3-1 Bournemouth. Courtesy of goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son.

One to watch: The inform Norwegian forward Josh King, who has 13 league goals this season.

All you need know about Spurs’ trialist Ryan Johnson:

IMG_2631.JPG

There was a trialist involved in Monday evenings game involving Spurs under 23’s and Everton at Goodison park. 20 year old Ryan Johnson who plays for Stevenage started the PL2 game for Ugo Ehiogu’s side. Johnson who plays at left centre back, is a product of West Brom’s youth academy and since joining league 2 club Stevenage in 2013, has gone on to make 12 appearances for their senior side. The highly thought of centre half went on a week long trial with Manchester United two years ago. Although born in Birmingham, Johnson represents Northern Ireland at youth level and has featured four times for their under 21’s side. My first impressions of Johnson were really positive, after seeing him play at Goodison park yesterday evening it was soon clear that he had something about his game. Playing on the left side of a back three, Johnson was up against a selection of Everton’s first team side which included Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Unfazed by the talent he was up against, Johnson looked composed and decisive, there was a coolness about his game that reminded me a bit of Toby Alderweireld. Johnson didn’t lunge into challenges or make rash decisions, he read the game well making some clever interceptions. Whilst good in the air, Johnson also possess a good amount of pace and his positioning also impressed me. Johnson’s long range passing was equally impressive, he sprayed some brilliant passes up to the Spurs attack. Whilst he was substituted late on in the game after picking up a yellow card when the scores was only 2-1, Johnson gave a really good impression of himself and whilst it’s is unclear what our intentions are, I for one am hoping to see him feature again in a Spurs shirt.

Spurs under 23’s 1-4 Everton: (match report)

Spurs under 23’s 1-4 Everton: (match report)

IMG_2628.JPG

“There were five shots on target and they scored four, but for 65 minutes I thought we controlled the game if I’m being honest. We lacked a killer instinct, a bit of power and directness at times, plus a bit of cuteness – they were a bit cuter than us and played with a bit more football nous and league experience than we did. We were a little bit too honest in that respect.” (Ugo Ehiogu)

Our under 23’s fell to a 4-1 defeat against Everton, at Goodison park on Monday evening in a match where the score couldn’t give justice to a battling Spurs performance. I was at a bitterly cold Goodison park reporting on Monday evenings game where Ugo Ehiogu’s side gave a good account of themselves against top of the table Everton, the blues side including a selection of first team players including Muhamed Bešić and Ademola Lookman. There was a surprise inclusion on the team sheet, trialist Ryan Johnson who plays for Stevenage started for the Lillywhites at left centre back. The 20 year old centre half who has played 12 times for Stevenage’s first team, had a trial at Man United two years ago. After a fairly uneventful opening 25 minutes where a solid and defensively structured Spurs side controlled the tempo of the game, Spurs came close to breaking the deadlock when bright spark Marcus Edwards went close on 26 minutes. Edwards’s embarked on a mazy run into the Everton box skipping past an Everton defender before unleashing a shot from close range, which was well blocked by defender Brendan Galloway. Spurs were taking control of the game, and were beginning to look the much better side. Cy Goddard set up forward Shilow Tracey, when he slipped the ball through to the striker from a free kick, Tracey’s effort from a tight angle was well saved by Hewelt.

IMG_2630.JPG

Everton went close at the other end when Calvert-Lewin powered a header narrowly wide of Glovers right post. Spurs went into the interval the better side, structured and in control they were dealing with an experienced Everton side with relative ease. Spurs continued to impress in the opening stages of the second half, the back three of Tanganga, Maghoma and Johnson well marshalled Everton’s attacking line. However, the potent Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for the blues on 64 minutes. The former Charlton player latched onto Galloway’s deflected cross at the far post, bundling the ball past Glover and into the net. Everton were starting to stamp their authority on the game and soon added their second eight minutes
later, Miller saw his long range effort well saved at the other end, before the blues doubled their advantage through Bassala Sambou. The newly introduced striker curled the ball wonderfully into the top corner as he turned past his man, a classy goal that left Glover rooted to his spot. However, Spurs fought back three minutes later when substitute Kazaiah Sterling nodded home Marcus Edwards cross, after some really good work from Edwards he created an opening, 2-1! The drama continued at a quick pace, Everton effectively ending the game just minutes after Spurs pulled a goal back. In a goal that was similar to their second, Kieran Dowell curled a delicious effort into the top corner of the net leaving Glover with no chance, 3-1 to Everton.

IMG_2629.JPG

Everton rounded of the game with a fourth three minutes from time when a deflected pass from the defence was played straight into the feet of Calvert-Lewin, who stroked the ball home from close range. The final score Spurs 1-4 Everton, a game where the scoreline couldn’t have been further from the truth, we were the better side for the majority of the game, Ehiogu’s young side putting in a commendable display against a much older Everton side, they deserved a draw.

Player review: – Tom Glover: Everton’s goals were of no fault of his own, wasn’t called into action for the most part of the game.
– TJ Eyoma: Decent display at wing back from the under 18, stayed deep and looked comfortable up against the talented Lookman.
– Japhet Tanganga: Played well in an impressive defensive trio, strong on the ball and good in the air.
– Filip Lesniak: Lesniak had a brilliant game in the centre of park, flawless and as efficient as ever, he covered a lot of ground and won the praises of Ehiogu.
– Christian Maghoma: My man of the match, Maghoma made some crucial interventions, was good in the air and was a commanding presence with in the side.
– Ryan Johnson: I was really impressed with the 20 year old trialist, Johnson was composed and read the game well. He also showed a great passing ability.
– Will Miller: Not his usual effective self had a quiet game out wide, failing to make much of an impact.
– Cy Goddard: On a rare start Goddard proved to be one of our best players, very creative in the centre of the park.
– Shilow Tracey: Done well up front, pressed continuously and got into some good positions. Tracey has such a high work rate.
– Marcus Edwards: The Tottenham starlet was one of Spurs’ most creative players, his skilful runs causing the blues problems throughout the game.
– Jaden Brown: Adapted well to playing higher up the pitch, looked good both defensively and offensively.
– Kazaiah Sterling: Made a real impact when coming on as he scored Spurs’ goal, seems to be adapting really well to under 23 football.

My man of the match: Christian Maghoma. Maghoma made some crucial interventions, was good in the air and was a commanding presence with in the side. Maghoma has been in great form over recent matches and is a player who I rate highly.

Everton: Hewelt, Kenny (c), Robinson, Besic (Charsley 46), Feeney, Galloway, Dowell (Henen 84), Walsh, Calvert-Lewin, Williams, Lookman (Sambou 64). Substitutes (not used): Gray (GK), Foulds.

Spurs: Glover, Eyoma, Tanganga, Lesniak (c), Maghoma, Johnson (trialist, Bennetts 77), Miller (Sterling 68), Goddard (Marsh 81), Tracey, Edwards, Brown. Substitute (not used): Whiteman (GK).

Goals: Everton – Lookman 61, Sambou 69, Dowell 75, Calvert-Lewin 87; Spurs – Sterling 72.

Yellow cards: Spurs – Johnson 76.

Attendance: 885.

Our development squad travel to Merseyside to face table toppers Everton on Monday evening in the PL2. Ugo Ehiogu’s side face David Unsworth’s high flying Everton side who are within touching distance of the league trophy in its inaugural season. Ehiogu’s side travel to Liverpool hoping to bolster their already strong survival chances, Spurs are currently in sixth position four points off the relegation zone. I’m wholly expecting Everton to field a strong and competent side at Goodison park on Monday night with the incentive so big for David Unsworth’s side. It’s been an interesting season for our under 23’s, Ehiogu’s side has changed throughout the season but on the whole they’ve done well as they enter their third last game of the campaign. The ultimate aim will be to achieve survival and I’m confident that we’ll have enough in our last three games to achieve that goal. Everton have a well known and talented youth academy, I was at our developments side opening game of the season which was against the blues, that day the talented Tom Davies played for Everton, yesterday he scored for their senior side against Leicester. Some of the blues talented under 23’s include their top scorer, Irish youth international Harry Charsley, first teamer Dominic Calvert Lewin who I wouldn’t rule out playing tomorrow, as well as pacy Belgian forward David Henan who scored against us in the reverse fixture. I shall be reporting on tomorrow nights game from Goodison park however, those wishing to watch the game from home can do so, it will be streamed live on Everton’s Facebook page. As ever I’m anticipating an intriguing match with much at stake for both sides. COYS

Team news: I’m expecting to see a fair few under 18’s in action tomorrow night, Kazaiah Sterling, Jaden Brown, Nick Tsaroulla, George Marsh, Japhet Tanganga and Keanan Bennett’s all missed Saturdays under 18 win against Norwich and I’m expecting some of those players to have travelled. The on loan Pau Lopez is unlikely to feature between the sticks, Lopez who was on the bench against Watford on Saturday, doesn’t seem to travel with the under 23’s to long distance away games, so it is likely that Tom Glover will feature. The highly rated Marcus Edwards could well feature, he featured for the under 23’s in their last match against Reading and is in need of competitive game time. I suspect that Kyle Walker-Peters will miss this game, the right back pulled out of international duty through injury and hasn’t featured for Ehiogu’s side recently. I’m also not sure whether winger Anthony Georgiou has recovered from injury. Of our loanees the only players I’m expecting to be involved are Stevenage’s Ryan Loft and Burtons Will Miller, both didn’t feature for their respective clubs at the weekend.

Ticket information, plus stream link: http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2017/04/04/under-23s-game-moved-to-goodison
My predicted lineup: (4-1-3-1) Glover, Brown, Maghoma, Tanganga , Tsaroulla, Lesniak, Edwards, Marsh, Tracey, Miller, Sterling.
My predicted score: 2-2

One to watch: Everton winger Harry Charsley, the Irish under 21 international is the blues top scorer in the PL2 with 7 goals.

Here comes the Son: Son continues to improve in his second season at the Lillywhites

Here comes the Son: Son continues to improve in his second season at the Lillywhites

IMG_2563

While at times inconsistent, Son Heung-Mins second season in English football with Spurs has seen the South Korean winger significantly improve, and he has gone onto become one of Spurs’ most effective players under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Following a first season in north London which was stop, start due to injury, his form and confidence suffered and his big money move from Bayer Leverkusen had some fans questioning his worth come the end of last season. Whilst not the most consistent player last term, few can argue the massive contribution that his made to our side during the current campaign, his become much more consistent as he continues to adapt to the premier league. The 24 year old has chipped in with an impressive 18 goals in all competitions, as well as a handful of assists. Son’s a player who buys in to Pochettino’s footballing philosophy, he has a great work ethic, he plays the game with a smile on his face, is hungry to score goals and it’s that, that has given him a great affinity with the clubs supporters. The winger has been played on both flanks as well as upfront, whilst it’s unquestionable that his best position is on the right wing, his versatility has come in very useful for Pochettino, when injuries have prevented Kane from playing, Son has often been the preferred choice up front in Kane’s absence. Son ended last season on 8 goals in all competitions, after starting the season the so well with 3 goals in 3 games, Son’s season took a dip in form as he struggled with injuries. And when he did recover, he was often featuring only from the bench, the Spurs fans had only been treated to flashes of Son’s brilliance.

IMG_2546

In contrast to last season Son has grown up as a player in the worlds strongest league, he has demonstrated his great goal scoring ability much more regularly, his statistics being very impressive for someone who plays out wide. His bursting runs down the flanks and his eagerness to cut in and have a shot from long range, were key attributes that our side was missing prior to his arrival. Son’s a great athlete, a player whose very fast over 10 metres, yes he can frustrate just like Erik Lamela can do as well, but this season is beginning to bring out the very best in this immensely talented forward. Pochettino has shown real faith in him as a player throughout the past two seasons, he has stuck by him even when he reportedly wanted to leave Spurs last summer, and Son’s repaying him with such great goal scoring form. At 24 years of age, I still think there’s a lot more to come from this South Korean mega star. I have also notice many of his fellow country men and women at the ground with his name on their backs. This can only be positive for our international standing and growing reputation. COYS!

Spurs 4-0 Watford: (match report)

IMG_2619.JPG

It was another wonderful day at White Hart Lane as Spurs defeated Watford 4-0 in glorious fashion this afternoon. Mauricio Pochettino’s side saw out a tough opening 20 minutes, before dismantling the Hornets with a splendid performance, as they continue to keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea. Fresh from their dramatic 3-1 victory over Swansea in midweek, Spurs were up against a well structured Watford side who were counter attacking our high pressing side. Nevertheless, we started the game brightly attacking with intent, and we came close just under ten minutes in, when Janssen received a pass on the edge of the penalty area. Before shrugging past Cathcart as he tried to place an effort from close range, which was met well by former Spurs goalkeeper Gomes as he pulled off a fine save to his left. Janssen came close to scoring again ten minutes later, after Trippier put in an inviting volleyed cross, which Janssen met at the far post, unfortunately for him it came of his chest before hitting the crossbar. Spurs’ dominance of the game was beginning to show, Watfords early bright spell began to flatten as Spurs took the lead on 33 minutes through the inform Dele Alli. After receiving a pass from Son, Alli curled the ball into the top right hand corner of the net, from close to 30 yards out as he left Gomes rooted to the spot, a truly sensational goal! Spurs were even hungrier to score after netting their first, and their high intensity style of play continued, just six minutes later the Lillywhites doubled their advantage. After Son’s shot was blocked, the ball came out to Dier on the edge of the box, the midfielder drove a low effort which flew into the back of the net, 2-0 to Spurs.

IMG_2621.JPG

The crowd were elated as we pushed for our third of the game shortly before the interval, a player who had been forever present in the game had been Son, and he was to get our third of the game on the stroke of half time. Son loves a long shot, and he decided to have a go from 28 yards out, his low curling effort flew in between the left post, leaving Gomes with no chance, 3-0 to Spurs at the interval. After an ideal first half, Spurs were not content with their three goal advantage as they began the second half, Pochettino’s side were simply overwhelming Watford and they soon added to their advantage through Son. After being found at the far post by Trippier who whipped in a brilliant cross, son hit the ball first time, his volleyed finish hitting the back of the net, 4-0 to Spurs! We were in cruise control for the remainder of the game, we had well and truly deflated the visitors and we were desperately unlucky not to win by an even greater margin. Son went close to getting his first premier league hat-trick late on, after he flashed an effort narrowly past the post, whilst the recovered Harry Kane almost put the icing on the cake with a spectacular long range free kick in stoppage time, his effort crashing against the crossbar. The final score Spurs 4-0 Watford, another superb performance from our team, we were treated to a superb display as our great form continues, we’re certainly not letting Chelsea run away with the league title! COYS

Post match notes: Another brilliant team performance ensured that we recorded our 11th straight league win. There were some outstanding individual performances that caught my eye today and none more so than Son. The South Korean international has been in great form this season and after today’s game he is on 18 goals for the season, Son’s a great athlete and his hard working display had a profound impact on the game. Son was constantly looking for routes through to goal, his eagerness to shoot resulted in him scoring two very good goals, Son also set up Alli’s opener. On only his third league start of the season right back Kieran Trippier was so sharp, he put in a very solid defensive performance. But it was Trippier’s crossing which was his greatest asset, his expertly timed deliveries and anticipation created a whole host of chances, he done a very good job to assist Son for his second of the game. Our next game is against Bournemouth, next Saturday lunchtime. In other news, our under 18’s ran out 3-2 winners against Norwich this morning at Hotspur Way, a hat-trick from Reo Griffiths ensuring all three points for McDermott’s side.
My man of the match: The superb Son Heung-Min, the South Koreans fine goalscoring run continues, Son was excellent today his two goals and assist ensuring a vital three points.

Spurs (4-2-3-1): Lloris (c), Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele (Sissoko 74), Son (Onomah 88), Dele, Eriksen, Janssen (Kane 61). Substitutes (not used): Pau Lopez, Walker, Wimmer, Nkoudou.

Watford (3-4-3): Gomes (c), Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas, Janmaat, Cleverley, Doucouré (Zuniga 59), Amrabat (Deeney 70), Niang, Okaka (Kabasele 84), Success. Substitutes (not used): Pantilimon, Capoue, Mason, Eleftheriou.

Goals: Spurs – Dele 32, Dier 39, Son 44, 55.

Fresh from their dramatic 3-1 victory over Swansea in midweek Spurs return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Watford at the Lane. Mauricio Pochettino’s side could go within four points of leaders Chelsea with a win in Saturday lunchtimes game, the blues face Bourenmouth on Saturday evening. Our side is flying at the moment in spite of a string of injuries, but with Harry Kane poised to return tomorrow and with Watford currently enduring a defensive headache there could be no better time to face the hornets then on Saturday. Walter Mazarri’s Watford side currently sit in 10th position, and the Hertfordshire based club have been an inconsistent but well structured side throughout the season, their defensive style of play helping them to record notable victories over both Arsenal and Man United. Whilst Watford are a good side who have cemented their place in the premier league for a second consecutive season, I feel that their numerous defensive injuries. Which includes key players Younes Kaboul, Sebastian Prodl as well as the suspended Miguel Britos. With their tenacious defence left vulnerable through injury, I’m anticipating our side to be ruthless in tomorrows match and I’m confident our attacking prowess will overwhelm the Hornets and I’m predicting a big win, similar to the reverse fixture back in December, where we ran out 4-1 winners. Watford are a solid outfit and are capable of providing a shock with attacking players such as Troy Deeney and M’Baye Niang at their disposal. However, if our side plays with the same intensity as they did on Wednesday night then I’m confident that we’ll ease past Watford if we can get an early goal. After all the Lane is our fortress. COYS

Team news: In what comes as a welcome surprise, striker Harry Kane will likely be involved tomorrow following his swift recovery from injury, though I still think he’ll start from the bench. Meanwhile, Spurs have a bit of a goalkeeping headache, with Lloris a doubt through illness and deputy Michel Vorm ruled out through a knee injury picked up in midweek, there could be a first start for talented on loan goalkeeper Pau
Lopez, the talented Spanish keeper who is on loan from Espanyol, has made a couple of appearances for our under 23’s. I have been very impressed with what I’ve seen from him at youth level, and manager Mauricio Pochettino’s is in no doubt as to his capabilities: “Pau is ready to play if Hugo is not ready. Why would it be a gamble to play him?” However, Danny Rose, Erik Lamela and Harry Winks remain out through injury, whilst midfielder Victor Wanyama will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s game.

My predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lopez, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Dembele, Wanyama, Son, Alli, Eriksen, Janssen.

My predicted score: 4-0 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Dele Alli x2, Son and Janssen.

One to watch: M’Baye Niang, Watfords on loan French winger who has electric pace and great skill as well as an eye for goal.

“Simply superb!” My thoughts on Spurs’ dramatic 3-1 victory over Swansea:

IMG_2612

With just two minutes remaining of normal time Spurs found themselves a goal down to 17th place Swansea City at the Welsh clubs Liberty stadium, Mauricio Pochettino’s side seemed destined for a first loss in eight league matches. Six minutes later there were scenes of pandemonium in the away end, Spurs were 3-1 up! Courtesy of a breathtaking three goal blitz with three wonderfully worked goals from Dele Alli, Son and Christian Eriksen securing a most dramatic three points for our title challenging side, we were simply superb! The sheer determination and fighting spirit that Pochettino’s side showed was nothing new, but the power that his injury stricken team showed to turn over a well structured Swansea side, in the space of just five minutes was testament to the outstanding team that they are. Whilst we were also attacking well on Wednesday nights game, we were sharp and our intensity was overwhelming the swans. Although no Spurs fan or pundit alike could have predicted Spurs’ late goal flurry. Each one of our late goals was wonderfully crafted and our players composure in front of goal was nothing short of outstanding, all that tough work on the training ground had given them the stamina yet again to achieve the near impossible. Whilst Wednesday’s win was down to a great team performance, there was one player who changed the game. Christian Eriksen’ creativity carved through the Swansea defence, the Danish international created a string of openings from within the midfield as he sprayed a series of sumptuous passes which eventually broke down Swansea’s tough defence.

After his deflected low pass found its way to Alli who tapped home for our equaliser, Eriksen again went on to make an important contribution to our second minutes later, before going on to secure all three points with a smart finish. It wasn’t just the creativity of Eriksen that won us the game, Dele Alli and Son were equally as effective and they stepped up yet again in place of talisman Harry Kane. Whilst the introduction of Vincent Janssen also helped change the game, the Dutchman’s impressive hold up play and assist for Son’s goal showed his great potential at Spurs as he begin to adapt to the premier league. We showed how good a side we really are, despite the numerous absentees which included Harry Kane and Victor Wanyama, Pochettino’s side are refusing to let Chelsea run away with the league title. Wednesday may just have been one of the most memorable games of the season and we return to action tomorrow afternoon when we face Watford at the Lane, this really is a special time for Spurs fans! COYS

Additional notes: I noticed that development squad midfielder Filip Lesniak was training with Wanyama ahead of Wednesday’s game, the young Slovakian defensive midfielder likely travelled due to our current lack of defensive midfielders following injuries to Winks and Wanyama.

Following Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, our 2-0 victory over Burnley at turf moor last Saturday has resulted in Chelsea’s lead at the top beeing cut to seven points. With many Spurs fans daring to dream of their team pulling off the impossible, Mauricio Pochettino’s side take on Swansea this evening knowing that they could end the night just four points behind the league leaders, if other results were to go their way. The determination and sheer might that Spurs showed on Saturday was highly commendable, despite suffering injuries to midfielders Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks, Spurs outclassed a Burnley side with one of the premier leagues best home records. With the help of a tactical master class from manager, Mauricio Pochettino and goals from Eric Dier and and Son. Tonight’s game presents a similar challenge as we visit South Wales to face a Swansea side currently embroiled in a relegation battle. However, since taking over at Swansea manager Paul Clement’s side are yet to taste defeat at the liberty stadium under Clement, and their rapid improvement under Clement is a completely different side to the one we thrashed 5-0 at the Lane back in December.

The creativity will come through former Spurs man Gylfi Sigurðsson, whilst target man Fernando Llorente will be a handful if fit. Whilst it’s imperative that we win tonight, the difficulty of this game will provide a tough test for our side with stakes so high for both teams.

Team news: Following a scan, Spurs announced in midweek that young midfielder Harry Winks will remain out for the rest of the season, Winks joins Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela in tonight’s absentees. Meanwhile, midfielder Victor Wanyama is an injury doubt following a back injury he sustained in Saturday’s victory.

My predicted lineup: (3-4-2-1) Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dier, Davies, Wanyama, Dembele, Walker, Eriksen, Alli, Son.

My score prediction: 3-1 to Spurs courtesy of goals from Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Son.

One to watch: Former Spurs man Gylfi Sigurðsson will provide the swans biggest goal threat, the Iceland international has got eight league goals and 11 assists this season.

Spur return to action on Saturday afternoon when they face Burnley, in an important league fixture at Turf Moor. After a two week international break Mauricio Pochettino’s’ Lillywhites continue their quest for a top four finish, and with our team sitting in second place and playing some brilliant football, Pochettino is on course to overachieve with Spurs for a second consecutive season. However, this afternoons opposition will provide one of the toughest away games of the season, the clarets have only lost three games at home in the league this season, and despite their struggles away from home their still in a very good position to secure their premier league status for another season. Highly structured and hard to break down, Sean Dyche has Burnley very well set up. I’m expecting a tight game and one in which the home side will do all they can to look for a draw, frustrating our attacking side throughout. Whilst Andre Gray is the clarets main goal threat, danger will also come from out wide through Robbie Brady and George Boyd.

Team news: Today’s match comes too soon for the injured trio of Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela. Whilst striker Vincent Janssen is an injury doubt with a chest infection.

My predicted lineup: Lloris (C),Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dier, Davies, Wanyama, Dembele, Walker, Dele, Eriksen, Son.

My score prediction: 1-0 to Spurs courtesy of a goal from Jan Vertonghen.
